Assessment of Self-Archiving in Institutional Repositories: Depositorship and Full-Text Availability
This research evaluates the success of open access self-archiving in several well-known institutional repositories. Two assessment factors have been applied to examine the current practice of self-archiving: depositorship and the availability of full text. This research discovers that the rate of author self-archiving is low and that the majority of documents have been deposited by a librarian or administrative staff. Similarly, the rate of full-text availability is relatively low, except for Australian repositories. By identifying different practices of self-archiving, repository managers can create new strategies for the operation of their repositories and the development of archiving policies
Information Literacy and Librarian-Faculty Collaboration: A Model for Success:
In the age of information explosion and technological advancement, issues of information storage, organization, access, and evaluation have become necessarily important in our societies. Addressing issues of information literacy and designing how they can be best integrated in students' learning process are of critical importance. Library professionals in the United States, particularly in the academia, have realized the importance of information literacy and have attempted in various ways to address these issues. The ultimate goal is to make information literacy an integral part of the academic curriculum, thus helping students to succeed not only during their years in college but also for their lifelong career choices. This article will look at ways of how information literacy can best be incorporated into students' academic experience, and how this process can make students' learning meaningful and successful. Geochemical characteristics and genesis of coalbed methane in Baode area on the eastern margin of Ordos Basin
The degree of coalbed methane exploration and development now in Baode area is relatively low. The lack of systematic understanding of the formation of coalbed methane in this area restricts the further exploration and development of coalbed methane. Based on the comprehensive study on the geochemical characteristics of coalbed methane components, hydrocarbon isotopes, water quality detection and hydrogen oxygen isotopes in coal seam in Baode area, the origin of coalbed methane in this area is discussed. According to the research, the hydrocarbon gas in the composition of coalbed methane in Baode area is mainly CH4 and a small amount of ethane. Both of their drying coefficients are more than 0.99, so they belong to the extremely dry coal bed methane. The value of δ13C(CH4) coalbed methane is on the low side and the value of δ13C(CO2) is on the high side, the mean value of δD(CH4) is -247.5‰, which shows the characteristics of terrestrial biogas. The water produced by coal seam is weak alkaline and belongs to the NaHCO3 type of water. which is similar to the surface water ion composition, salinity , δD(H2O) and δ18O(H2O) values, indicating that the hydrodynamic conditions of the coal seam in this area are more active. There is a recharge of external water, which is benificial to the mass reproduction of CH4 producing bacteria and the formation of biogas. In this area, the coalbed methane is a mixture of thermogenic and biological genesis, mainly composed of thermogenic gases and supplemented by biogenic gases generated through carbon dioxide reduction
Factors to Assess Self-Archiving in Institutional Repositories
This paper proposes a group of factors that may be used to assess the success of open access self-archiving. It concentrates on self-archiving in institutional repositories. Applying the NISO Metasearch Initiative Scheme to Enhance E-Resources Management at Rutgers University Library
This paper discusses problems in the management of library e-resources and attempts to identify potential solutions to the problems. By describing an e-resources enhancement project taken by Rutgers University Libraries, this paper points to the importance of providing contextually-rich metadata and reorganizing the accessibility of e-resources on a library’s website. It introduces how this Rutgers project adopted the National Information Standards Organization Metasearch Initiative to support the identification of appropriate e-collections for metaseaching. The outcomes of the project have facilitated a dynamic display of relevant e-resources to library users as an effective way of automatic access to library e-collections.Peer reviewe
A Metadata Manager's Role in Collaborative Projects: The Rutgers University Libraries Experience
Purpose – This article discusses the roles and responsibilities of a metadata manager in collaborative digital projects.
Methodology – It describes the general requirements for metadata management, and introduces some scenarios in the practices of digital projects by the Rutgers University Libraries to support the generalized definition. A workflow of metadata management is illustrated.
Practical implications – With an explicit definition of the roles and responsibilities of the metadata manager, many other digital libraries that need to develop a new or optimize the existing workflow may find the Rutgers experience useful as reference.
Originality – Very few articles have explored this topic although the functions of metadata in the development of digital projects have been talked extensively.Peer reviewe

Detrital zircon U-Pb age and detrital rutile trace element data from the late Neogene Baode Red Clay sequence, Chinese Loess Plateau, and detrital rutile geochemistry from 14 potential source areas
The data were collected for a joint detrital zircon and detrital rutile provenance study of the late Neogene aeolian Baode Red Clay, located on the northern part of the Chinese Loess Plateau. The data consist of detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the 4.04–2.64 Ma Baode Red Clay (four samples from the Pliocene Jingle Formation and one sample from the 2.64 Ma Transitional Unit), and detrital rutile trace element geochemistry of the 6.91–2.64 Ma Baode Red Clay (three samples from the Miocene Baode Formation, five samples from the Pliocene Jingle Formation, and one sample from the Transitional Unit) and 14 potential sedimentary source areas in Central-East Asia. The data were collected using Nu Plasma AttoM single collector ICP-MS (Nu Instruments Ltd., Wrexham, UK) connected to an Analyte Excite 193 ArF laser ablation system (Photon Machines, San Diego, USA) at the Geological Survey of Finland. The rutiles were analysed for Li, Mg, Al, Si, P, Ca, Sc, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Sn, Sb, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Hf, Ta, W, Pb, Th, and U. The grain size fractions of the analysed grains were mostly 30–90 μm for the Red Clay zircons and rutiles, and 20–500 μm for the potential source area rutiles
Batch Loading in Metadata Creation: A Case Study the Rutgers University Libraries Experience
Purpose – The purpose of this article is to describe a workflow of automated batch loading metadata from existing text to a database.
Methodology/Approach – It introduces a case for the experience of metadata creation at Rutgers University Libraries in a collaborative digital project with the Hoboken Public Library in New Jersey.
Findings – It is found that a well-designed workflow is crucial to the success of metadata batch loading. It is also found that the metadata manager needs to collaborate with people of different roles and work carefully with data reorganization and transferring.
Practical Implications – Metadata creation and management is an integrated component of any digital project. Our experience in metadata batch loading has practical significance that may be incorporated into the practice of other metadata projects. The workflow introduced in this article will provide valuable example for librarians and information professionals to consider or redesign their own digital efforts.
Originality – Based on our real exercise, this workflow has been proven to be unique and useful. It was, after the writing of this article, applied to a new collaborative digital project and once again fulfilled the requirements for another batch transferring process.Peer reviewe
