Drinfeld cusp forms: oldforms and newforms

    No full text
Let p=(P) be any prime of Fq[t], let m be any ideal of Fq[t] not divisible by p and consider the space of Drinfeld cusp forms of level mp, i.e. for the modular group Γ0(mp). Using degeneracy maps, traces and Fricke involutions we offer definitions for p-oldforms and p-newforms which turn out to be subspaces stable with respect to the action of the Atkin operator UP. We provide eigenvalues and/or slopes for p-oldforms and p-newforms and a condition to get the whole space of cusp forms as the direct sum between them

On the Atkin U_T-operator for Γ_0(T)-invariant drinfeld cusp forms

We study the Atkin Ut operator for Drinfeld cusp forms. In particular, we define newforms and oldforms of level Γ0(t) and we study basic properties of their slopes. Moreover, we find an explicit formula for the matrix associated to the action of Ut on Γ1(t)-invariant cusp forms using Teitelbaum’s interpretation as harmonic cocycles

On the Structure and Slopes of Drinfeld Cusp Forms

We define oldforms and newforms for Drinfeld cusp forms of level t and conjecture that their direct sum is the whole space of cusp forms. Moreover we describe explicitly the matrix U associated to the action of the Atkin operator (Formula presented.) on cusp forms of level t and use it to compute tables of slopes of eigenforms. Building on such data, we formulate conjectures on bounds for slopes, on the diagonalizability of (Formula presented.) and on various other issues. Via the explicit form of the matrix U we are then able to verify our conjectures in various cases (mainly in small weights)

Exploring Higher Education Pathways in Italy, France and Germany: A Linguistic Analysis of Master’s Degree Home Pages in English as a Medium of Instruction and the National Languages

The global spread of degree courses taught in English as a Medium of Instruction raises questions about the identity or “branding” of English-taught degree programs in non-Anglophone countries and whether they differ from their equivalents in the national languages. To answer this question, we have examined a sample of master’s degree programs in the same domain, International Relations, across Italy, France and Germany from a quantitative and a qualitative perspective. Our findings suggest that they present a similar branding strategy in line with the standardization process of EU higher education, also reflecting the global trend toward the “entrepreneurial university.”

    Nitroalkenes

    No full text
The literature up to July 2008 dealing with catalytic enantioselective FC alkylation of aromatic compounds with nitroalkenes has been reviewed. Both metal-mediated and organocatalysis have been employed leading to a vast array of enantiomerically pure compounds most of them of interest in medicinal chemistry. An insight into the mechanism of the various catalytic methodologies is provided aimed at providing a rationale for the reactions treated

EVALUATING A MARKERLESS METHOD FOR STUDYING ARTICULATORY MOVEMENTS: APPLICATION TO A SYLLABLE REPETITION TASK

The analysis of the articulatory movements allows investigating the kinematic characteristics of some speech disorders. However, the methodologies most used until now, as electromagnetic articulography and optoelectronic systems, are expensive and intrusive which limit their use to specialized laboratories. In this work, we use a completely markerless and low-cost technique to study lip movements during a syllable repetition task. By means of a Kinect-like and an existing face tracking algorithm, we are able to track the movements of the lower lip, testing the performances against a reference method (marker-based optoelectronic system). Good results were obtained in terms of RMSE for the tracking of the lower lip during the repetitions. Some kinematic measures, as opening and closing velocities and accelerations, were also computed. Despite the limitations in terms of image resolution, these results are very promising in the optic of developing a new markerless system for studying speech articulation

The Discursive Representation of Smart Cities in the German Media

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to investigate how German newspapers construct the imagery of smart cities and how they contribute to the delineation of the future city identity describing the set of unique abilities needed to manage the spatial, economic, social and cultural lives of German citizens. In particular, an integrated approach is applied. This combines a statistical method with corpus analysis in order to examine how newspapers disseminate and popularise scientific knowledge about smart cities and how they shape public opinion and promote the comprehension and acceptance of innovations among their readers

Effects of intra-crystalline microcracks on the mechanical behavior under indentation of a marble

    No full text
Indentation tests have been carried out on a marble in order to define the role of the intra-grain microcracks on its mechanical behavior. The investigated marble shows a strong variability in grain-texture (granoblastic to xenoblastic) also on the scale of centimeter and contains different types of microdiscontinuities (cleavage cracks, grain boundaries cracks), despite the almost monomineralic composition of calcite crystals. The mechanical properties of the calcite grains have been determined by applying static non-instrumented Vickers and Knoop indentations and Berkovich nanoindentation in Continuous Stiffness Measurements (CSM) mode. The study has clearly revealed the influence of microcracks on the mechanical strength and deformability characteristics of the investigated rock, even on the smallest scales. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd
