Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy Related Inflammation Presenting as Steroid Responsive Brain Mass

    No full text
WOS: 000551172600024PubMed: 30649812Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a common but often asymptomatic disease, characterized by the deposition of amyloid proteins within brain parenchyma and leptomeningeal-cortical vessels. It can occur as a sporadic disorder or accompany Alzheimer disease (AD). the usual presentation of CAA is spontaneous lobar hemorrhage, Unlike CAA, cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation (CAA-ri), a subtype of CAA, can show various presentations and responds to steroid (or immuno suppressive) treatment. We report a patient with mixed dementia who showed subacute progression in cognitive impairment and had a mass lesion on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). the lesion was identified as CAA related inflammation and the cognitive status of the patient improved significantly after steroid treatment. in this case report, we aimed to emphasize that CAA-ri is one of the possible diagnoses that should be considered in demented patients with rapid cognitive deterioration and showing brain lesions resembling neoplasms on the MRI. Therefore, steroids or other immunosuppresive treatments, which may lead to a dramatic clinical improvement, could be administered without delay

On a Theory of Software Engineering a Proposal Based on Transaction Cost Economics

    No full text
This article leverages the findings of the transaction cost economics field, and proposes a simple theory and associated vocabulary to serve as a foundation for a unified theory of software engineering. It characterizes software engineering as a set of transactions organized under three governance structures. The theory explains the strengths and weaknesses of these governance structures in relation to asset specificity. It takes into account the recursive nature of the notions in software engineering, and applies uniformly to various contexts at different levels of granularity. The theory not only provides an explanatory framework for some of the propositions given in the software engineering literature, but also reveals the boundaries of their applicability.SEMA

    Software Development Governance

    No full text
Software development governance can be defined as the application of “governance” in software engineering in order to increase the probability of success in the level of individual projects as well as in the level of the organization comprising many interrelated projects. The topic deserves an interdisciplinary perspective, as the general subject of governance has been analyzed quite extensively under the field of Transaction Cost Economics. This interdisciplinary approach enabled the identification of three main modes of governance for software engineering, namely: top-down governance, bottom-up governance and reuse governance, each having unique transaction cost characteristics. To be cost effective, (1) the organizations should adapt the right governance structure for their projects based on their characteristics, and (2) the software development tools should support and be in alignment with the underlying governance structure. In this chapter, we briefly overview the first premise and then outline an approach to address the second premise, specifically tackling the issue of tools integration, for software modeling and configuration management tools. We use Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM) to represent the mapping between governance structures and software modules, propose a configuration management approach for each mode of software governance, and demonstrate a successful integration using Lattix LDM, IBM Rational ClearCase and IBM Rational Rhapsody, three broadly available tools in the software industry.</jats:p
