Formation professionnelle agricole et les besoins en qualification des jeunes orientés vers le marché du travail : infrastructures et équipements dans la mise en œuvre de l’approche par les compétences, Sénégal
Agricultural, technical, and Vocational Training Schools (ATVET) fulfill a fundamental function in identifying needs and requests for interventions that allow young people to strengthen their technical agricultural skills. Given this importance, the Competence Based Approach (CBA) is introduced to facilitate the integration of young people. However, teachers encounter difficulties in using CBA educational tools. It is in this context that this descriptive study is carried out to contribute to improving the application of CBA. Thus, the participants of this study were the teachers and administrators of the ATVET of Diourbel and Fatick in Senegal. Interviews were conducted with two principals and ten teachers in these two regions. An interview protocol was developed for participants based on the programs, CBA implementation guidelines, and activity reports. The results showed that the participants are well-experienced and accustomed to working in challenging environments and teaching conditions. The availability and inadequate quality of resources, teaching materials, and the learning environment with overcrowded classes pose problems for teacher satisfaction in the conduct of CBA. Technical infrastructure and equipment also do not meet the needs of teachers. Furthermore, insufficient capacity building for human resources and organizational dysfunctions compromise educational results. Thus, participants advocate the need to increase the budget to meet the requirements and expectations in the learning environment to improve the technical context of learners for the application of CBA

Senegalese extension services play a crucial role in Senegalese agriculture which is still characterized as family and peasant-based. Extension agents provide technical support and information to breeders. Today, an adaptation to the use of natural resources is necessary because of the degradation of the agro-pastoral ecosystem, hence the need for innovative training and awareness-raising strategies. Therefore, the purpose was the enhancement of the teaching approaches implemented to local breeders in the context of climate change in the Diourbel and Thies regions. The researcher collected qualitative data, including document analysis and in-depth interviews with 12 extension agents. Findings included insight into the training experiences of extension agents in the context of climate change. Besides, the results showed that the program planning is effective and helped to design practical teaching content. In addition, the adult-centered teaching approach is a new concept for the participants. However, the findings demonstrated the need to improve knowledge in teaching and learning innovations for extension agents in natural resource conservations. In sum, they need program planning and continuing professional development programs to be efficient in diffusing the concept to change the mindset and behaviors of breeders.Accepted versio

Risk factors for infection with equine influenza virus in donkeys (Equus asinus) in Senegal
In recent years, outbreaks of equine influenza are reported in several countries in the world particulary in Africa. This study is designed to assess the potential risk factors associated with equine influenza virus infection in donkeys in Senegal. The study consists in comparing, depending on the exposure to risk factors, a batch of donkeys infected with the equine influenza virus to another batch of donkeys not infected with the virus during the epizootic of March 2019 which affected the department of Foundiougne. The study reveals that the spread of the equine influenza virus in Foundiougne is associated with the lack of access to veterinary care and infected donkeys were exposed in a ratio of 2 times (95% CI: 1.38; 4.71) more than donkeys unharmed. The wandering of donkeys is also linked with the disease. The indicator reflecting the strength of the relationship, the Odds Ratio is 2.06 (95% CI: 1.10; 3.87). However, the results indicate that attendance at rural markets (Odds Ratio = 0.90; 95% CI: 0.44; 1.82), young age (Odds Ratio = 0.90; 95% CI: 0.52, 1.55) and female sex (Odds Ratio = 0.97; 95% CI: 0.57; 1, 66) do not appear to be related to the spread of the disease. At present, in Senegal, control focused on sensitizing and informing donkey owners on the sanitary management and rational use of donkeys is essential for their well-being
