NEW ELECTROCHEMICAL PROBE FOR SILICON DETERMINATION IN HOT METAL

    No full text
In this investigation an electochemical cell has been designed for the direct measurement of silicon content in hot metal. Data of EMF vs. Si concentration have been obtained in Fe-Si-Csat melts at 1500°C, for Si content from 0.05 to 1.2%. Experimental values agree fairly well with EMF values calculated from thermodynamic data. Owing to its sensitivity and long working life the sensor can be used for continuous, long term measurement in hot metal

HPLC and GC-MS detection of compounds released to mineral waters stored in plastic bottles of PET and PVC

    No full text
The migration of certain compds. from PET [poly(ethylene terephthalate)] and poly(vinyl chloride) bottles to waters was studied by HPLC with UV detection after extn. with di-Et ether. Compds. in mineral waters were identified by gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Erucamide, from PET bottles, was quant. detd. in some mineral waters. Two other compds., also detected in mineral waters stored in PET, were identified as low-mol.-wt. cyclic oligomers produced during the PET polymn. process

Complete separation of ephedrines by graphite-layer open-tubular (GLOT) column

The preparation of graphite-layer capillary column is described together with their application to the analysis of aliphatic and aromatic amines. Attention is mainly focused on the separation of ephedrines which, being sympathomimetic amines, are often present in pharmaceutical preparations, but are also illegally used by athletes as stimulants. Complete separation of these compounds, using direct GC-NPD analysis of human urine extract, without derivatisation, has been obtained
