Nucleation and Crystal-growth In Inorganic Glass-forming Systems - A Dta Study
In this paper, a method for studying devitrification processes by means of DTA is reported, together with the results obtained for a large number of glassy systems. When literature isothermal data are available, a comparison is made. Good agreement is always found among the results of the two methods. A method based on thermoanalytical data is suggested for the rapid comparison of the stability of glasses of unlike compositions on heating

Sol-gel synthesis and crystallisation of 3CaO center dot 2SiO(2) glassy powders
A gel of composition 3CaO . 2SiO(2) was synthesised by means of sol-gel route involving hydrolysis of tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) with calcium nitrate in alcoholic medium, and polycondensation reaction. The gel was submitted to DTA and TGA analysis and the resulted material was examined by FTIR spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffractometry. The thermal treatments required for the gel into glass conversion led to a partially devitrified product. The XRD analysis showed that the structure obtained is highly depolymerised. A New Parameter To Evaluate Nucleation In Glasses From Dta Curves
Non-isothermal kinetic data relative to five silicate glasses are compared. The analysis of data suggests the use of a new parameter to obtain a rough estimate of the ability of different glass compositions to form nuclei and to select glass compositions which can, easily, give fine-grained glass ceramics
Nucleation in glass and differential thermal analysis
The crystal nucleation of Li2O-2SiO2 glass is studied by DTA. A simple method based on the shift of the DTA crystallization peak temperature, for evaluating the influence of temperature and time of heay treatments on bulk nucleation, is described. The experimental results are iun good agreement with results obtained by other workers
