Fisioterapia in piscina per il cavallo sportivo
Aim of the work belongs to the experimental evaluation of the effects of physiotherapy by the use of swimming pool on sporting-horses from different breeding, involved in differ- ent racing and jumping competitions. Positivity of therapeutical intervention was measured on the basis of quality of horses performances, related to their category, before and after the effect of pool physiotherapy. 81 horses were observed during a period of 3 years. 29 were thoroughbred, 20 standard- bred, 20 jumping thoroughbred and crossbred performing hurdle, steeple-chase and cross- country races, 12 horse-riding italian saddle and irish hunter. 68.2% total observed horses (80% horse-riding) using pool physiotherapy performed good results and subjects came back to the same level competitions. Most frequent pathologies exib- ited by the observed animals were tendinous or muscular inflammations (50%). 50% total horses were 4-5 years old; only 2.3% were under 3 years old, confirming low technical use of swimming pool in training young horses. Efficacy of therapeutic treatment was confirmed by the short medium attendance period at the Centre. 43.2% medium length period was less than 2 months and 25% was longer than 2 months. Males and geldings were predominant than females

Shoulder resurfacing with Durom Cup: clinical and radiological re-assessment
Background: The purpose of this study was to analyze and report functional and radiological results obtained with the DuromTM Shoulder Cup. Methods: From 2004 to 2009, 42 consecutive shoulder resurfacing prostheses were implanted in a cohort of forty patients with morphologically and functionally healthy rotator cuff. Those cases were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively after an average of 33.5 months on the basis of Constant score, ASES score, and X-rays. Results: The Constant score increased from 29.88 points preoperatively to 82.34 after a mean follow-up period of 33.5 months. The ASES score went from 30.55 points preoperatively to 76.61. Radiologically we noticed neither radiolucent lines nor any aseptic loosening of the prosthetic cup. In the post-operative X-rays evaluation we found no significant central migration of the humeral head from the first postoperative X-ray. Conclusions: The good functional results observed with a mean follow-up of approximately 3 years doubtless resulted from the reduction in implant-placement error, as a result of the resurfacing procedure, and from the normal rotator cuff function. This technique facilitates surgical reconstruction of the anatomical and biomechanical conditions required for physiological function of the shoulder. © The Japanese Orthopaedic Association 2012
The impact of rehabilitation on the health-related quality of life in patients with vertebral fragility fractures
Vertebral fractures are one of the most frequent and serious osteoporotic fractures. Rehabilitation plays an important role in these patients through its potential impact on pain and physical function, not only in the short-term, but also in the long term. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of a 10 days-rehabilitation program on quality of life in the long term. This study was an observational study conducted on patients with fragility vertebral fractures. At baseline and after 6 months the following parameters were evaluated: height and occiput wall distance, Visual Analogue Scale for dorsal and lumbar pain, 20 meters walk test for gait's performance. For quality of life assessment we used the Italian version of EuroQuol-5-dimensions-3-level. Patients were divided in two groups: 39 patients underwent a 10 days-rehabilitation program specific for fragility vertebral fractures, 15 patients did not receive any rehabilitation treatment. Patients who underwent a specific physiotherapy program had better quality of life-related outcomes after 6 months than patients did not perform any rehabilitation, in particular in EQ-Global Health and in the mobility and selfcare dimension of EQ-index. In conclusions this study shows that in the management of fragility vertebral fractures the exercises have an important role. © 2019 CIC Edizioni Internazionali s.r.l.. All rights reserve
