Natura, contesti urbani, architettura: un nuovo modo di urbanizzare la Cina
The article explores the emergence of a new model of urbanization, attentive to places, tradition, contexts, and nature. We would call it “regionalism”. After decades of standardized and aggressive urbanization, the new generation of Chinese architects and urban planners is working to preserve the historical and environmental identity of places, particularly in rural areas and historic centers. This approach offers solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, and durability. Despite economic challenges, awareness is growing among investors and administrators of the importance of urbanization that promotes the long-term well-being of communities
Innovation Across Architectural Practice, Research and Education
This paper explores the intersection of architectural practice, research, and education,
focusing on challenges faced by architects in Northwestern Italy and the potential for
internationalisation as a solution. The study examines the barriers preventing effective collaboration
between academia and professional practice, particularly in Italy's rigid construction market, and
contrasts this with models of architectural innovation in China. Drawing from Bruno Latour's
framework of innovation, the research highlights the role of spatial proximity and global mobility in
fostering knowledge exchange and professional development. The Polito Studio initiative, launched
by Politecnico di Torino in partnership with the Torino Chamber of Architects, serves as a case
study demonstrating a hybrid model that integrates academic research with real-world practice. By
facilitating collaboration between emerging architects and international institutions, Polito Studio
provides a replicable framework for architectural innovation, bridging the gap between education,
research, and practice while enhancing global professional opportunities
