    Il volume analizza i rinvenimenti numismatici portati alla luce in sessant’anni di scavi (1959-2019) nel santuario di Pietrabbondante (Isernia): quasi duemila monete che coprono un ampio ambito cronologico che si estende dal V sec. a.C al IV sec. d.C., quando il sito, a seguito del terremoto del 346, fu abbandonato. Il lavoro di Simone Boccardi rappresenta la prima edizione sistematica dei 1920 esemplari che, riesaminati e classificati alla luce delle nuove conoscenze, rappresentano una fonte di straordinaria importanza per ricostruire la vita del sito. Grazie alla ricchezza dei dati proposti, lo studio consente di ricostruire aspetti non solo della storia economica del Sannio antico – a partire dalla prima comparsa della moneta greca nel Sannio, fino all’introduzione del denario e del sistema del bronzo sestantale –, ma anche di rilevare i caratteri topografici e funzionali di questo importante centro religioso. Completano il volume le planimetrie delle aree di scavo del santuario a cura di V. Esposito e le tavole fotografiche.This book analyses the numismatic finds brought to light during sixty years of excavations (1959-2019) at the sanctuary of Pietrabbondante (Isernia). Almost two thousand coins were discovered, covering an ample chronological range stretching from the 5th c. BCE to the 4th c. CE, when the site was abandoned after the earthquake of 346. Simone Boccardi’s study is the first systematic publication of the 1920 coins. Re-examined and classified in light of new knowledge, they represent an extraordinarily important source for reconstructing the life of the site. Thanks to the wealth of data covered, the study makes it possible not just to reconstruct aspects of the economic life of ancient Samnium – from the first appearance of Greek coins in Samnium to the introduction of the denarius and the sextantal bronze system –, but also to identify the topographical and functional characteristics of this important religious centre. The volume is accompanied by plans of the excavated areas of the sanctuary by V. Esposito and photographic plates

    An excursus on infrared thermography imaging

    This work represents an overview of some of the applications of infrared thermography that have been carried out at the University of Naples Federico II over the years. The focus is on four topics: thermo-fluid-dynamics, materials inspection, cultural heritage and preventative maintenance. For each topic, some results are presented as thermal, and/or phase, images with the attention being essentially devoted to the capacity of these images to communicate information. For more details on test apparatuses, procedures and data analyses, the reader is referred to the previous published work, available in the literature

    Post-processing of time-sequences acquired during impact tests with the aid of a reference area

    The aim of this paper is concerned with post-processing of thermal images, acquired during impact tests of composite materials, with the aid of a reference unloaded specimen. The use of a reference area was already proposed by the authors to eliminate the detector noise while measuring small temperature variations. As a next step, now the use of a specimen identical to the loaded one (same material and surface finishing), is proposed as reference for evaluating temperature variations, which can be exploited for assessing the extension of the impact damaged zone as well as of the overall impact affected area

    Nondestructive evaluation of carbon fibre reinforced composites with infrared thermography and ultrasonics

    Infrared thermography and phased array ultrasonic are used to detect defects and impact damage in carbon fibre reinforced composites. Apart from its use as non-destructive evaluation technique, infrared thermography is also employed to record a video during the impact event. The visualization of thermal signatures, caused by local dissipation of impact energy, allows gaining information which is useful for understanding the material response to impact. In particular, the two techniques allow for estimation, in a reliable way, of the overall delamination extension which is of utmost importance for material design purposes
