Professor Palaima estimates this letter to have been written in early 2005, prior to Bennett's brief move to Austin. John here refers to Emmett's son John Bennett (with two t's; not the scholar John Bennet, with one). "Toni" refers to the woman Palaima calls "the great love of Bennett's life." This is not Antony Erich Raubitschek, who customarily signed off his notes to Bennett as "Toni." Gife refers to the stie of the First International Mycenological Conference. We thank Professor Palaima for taking the time to clarify these.Classic

The second half is addressed specifically to Palaima, and touches upon academic issues pertinent to both himself and Bennett. The May 27th letter comes at the end. In it Bennett addresses the challenges of making computer entries for the Pylos tablets.
