We provide supplementary material to Uieda and Barbosa (2012). The material included are: (1) plots of the predicted and synthetic gyy and gyz components from the section "Application to synthetic data", (2) plots of the results of the sensitivity analysis to uncertainties in the density-contrast value of the seeds, (3) the contour maps of the synthetic and predicted data for the synthetic tests in the "Sensitivity analysis" section, and (4) a synthetic test ilustrating the use of the L2-norm of the residual vector in the data-misfit function.

References

Uieda, L., and V. John F. Kennedy telegram to Roosevelt

Jersey Homesteads (later the Borough of Roosevelt) was established in the 1930s as an agro-industrial cooperative community. It was established specifically for urban Jewish garment workers, many of whom had emigrated from Europe. President John F. Kennedy sent a telegram to the citizens of Roosevelt, New Jersey, apologizing for not being able to attend the memorial dedication in honor of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. (Jersey Homesteads became Roosevelt in 1945 in honor of the president.) President Kennedy expressed his gratitude to the people of Roosevelt for constructing the memorial, and commented that it will serve as a constant reminder of Roosevelt's good works

Let Q be a factor of type II1, λ a number in the Jones discrete series {4cosπ/m:m≥3}, and {ei} the Jones projections associated with λ. Denote by A2n and A1n the finite-dimensional von Neumann algebras generated, respectively, by {1,e2,⋯,en} and {1,e1,⋯,en}, with the corresponding traces. The author shows that, for n sufficiently large, the index of the inclusion An=(Q⊗A2n)∗A2nA1n⊂(Q⊗A2n+1)∗A2n+1A1n+1=An+1 is equal to λ (here ∗ denotes the reduced, amalgamated free product of the algebras in question). Using the random matrix model of Voiculescu, he proves that if Q is the von Neumann algebra L(F∞) of the free group with infinitely many generators, then An is isomorphic to L(F∞). The two facts together imply the existence, for any λ in the Jones discrete series, of an irreducible subfactor of L(F∞) of index λ. This constitutes the first example of a nonhyperfinite, non-Γ II1 factor such that its Jones invariant is fully computable (the existence of nonirreducible subfactors of L(F∞) for any index ≥4 is a simple consequence of known results)

Buenoa dilaticrus Barbosa, Nessimian, Ferreira- Keppler Fig. 13–17 Buenoa dilaticrus Barbosa, Nessimian, Ferreira-Keppler, 2010 a: 50 [Type localities: Brazil, State of Amazonas, Barcelos Municipality, Serra do Aracá, igarapé da Anta; Serra do Aracá, igarapé; State of Roraima, Alto Alegre, Serra de Surucucus, Rio Talemu-u baixo; Types in Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (Brazil) and Coleção Entomológica Professor José alfredo Pinheiro Dutra – Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)]. Comments. Buenoa dilaticrus resembles B. tibialis Truxal, 1957 in general appearance, including the color pattern. According to Barbosa et al. (2010 a), in both species the head and thorax are yellow, posterior region of hemelytra and abdomen dark brown; rostral prong originating laterally on proximal region, shorter than the third rostral segment and with its apex rounded; the fore femur lacking a stridulatory area; internal margin of fore tibia apically projected; and the hind femur sinuous. Buenoa dilaticrus can be distinguished by its tylus being strongly inflated and rounded (Fig. 13); lateral expansion at the base of external margin of mid-tibia (Fig. 16); hind femur with a line of crests on internal margin, each one with a short seta at apex; and left clasper with hook well developed apically (fig. 17). Buenoa tibialis possesses a tylus slightly inflated (Fig. 50); mid-tibia enlarged at median region of external margin; hind femur sinuous with a line of short spines on inner surface; and left clasper with hook short and rounded apically (Fig. 52). The expanded mid-tibia of B. dilaticrus is very similar to that of B. oreia Nieser, Melo, Pelli, De Campos Barbosa, 1997, although the last species does not occur in the Amazon Region and is distinctly bigger, including its distinct rostral prong, among other features.
