Physical activity pattern and energy expenditure of Malaysian adults: findings from the Malaysian Adult Nutrition Survey (MANS)
total energy expenditure (TEE) was then estimated through factorial calculations based on time allocated and energy cost of various activities. Physical activity level (PAL) was calculated as the ratio of TEE to BMR. It was found that almost three-quarters of Malaysian adults traveled by passive modes of transportation. Only a third reported having ever-exercised, and an even smaller proportion of the population (14%) had adequate exercise. The population also spent the majority of their time (74% of the day) in sedentary activities, such as sleeping or lying dow

Tools for collaborative software inspection management / Lai Poh Fatt
Inspection Manager is web based system that is used by the Inspection moderator, Inspector and Document Author. Inspection Moderator can manage his inspection process properly here. Inspection can set the inspection objective, invite the inspections, review the defects discovery logs, schedule for the inspection overview or inspection meeting and etc. Meanwhile, the inspector can retrieve the to be inspected document here have their preparation for meeting by finding potential defects in the document and log the defects through inspection manager. The author can upload their document here and correct explain the defects. The system is also available online 24 hours a day throughout the year. The aim of this project is to build a software inspection tool to replace the existing manual process in order to upgrade the business strategies. The core objective of this system is to build a web based application which allowing all tasks to be done through electronic. Researches are done on the existing system to get a better view of traditional software inspection process. The Rational Unified Process is used to develop the inspection manager. Inspection manager is an active web page solution that needs special development tools and languages such as ASP.NET, Internet Information Server (IIS), Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and others
The Effects of Decision Aid Structural Restrictiveness on Decision-Making Outcomes
Deposited with permission of the author. © 2008 Poh-Sun Seow. This study examines the effects of structural restrictiveness embedded within a decision aid on users’ decision-making outcomes. Structural restrictiveness is determined by the rules embedded within computerized decision aids that restrict how users interact with the decision aid. For example, a structurally-restrictive decision aids might force users to consider information and answer specific questions in a prescribed sequence. In contrast, a less structurally-restrictive decision aid would be designed so that users are free to consider information in whatever sequence they desire. The more structurally-restrictive design imposes more limits on users’ decision-making process because they are forced to adapt their decision-making process to match the decision aid. However, it is unclear whether restricting how users interact with decision aids affects their decision-making outcomes. The results indicate that the more structurally-restrictive decision aid did not assist participants to identify more prompted items compared with the less structurally-restrictive decision aid. However, it increased the decision-making bias in recalling non-prompted items. The results contribute to the decision aid literature by highlighting the cost of increasing the degree of structural restrictiveness embedded within decision aids
Effects of thermal stimuli during simulated hemorrhaging on aspects of cognitive performance
Warming a hemorrhaging victim is the standard of care due to the adverse effects of combined hemorrhage and hypothermia on survival. However, it has been found that heating can be detrimental to the maintenance of arterial pressure, cerebral perfusion, and may also impact cognitive function. PURPOSE: To test the hypothesis that mildly heating an otherwise normothermic individual can be detrimental to cognitive function during a simulated mild hemorrhagic insult. METHODS: Nine men (mean ± SD: age, 29.9 ± 8.4 y; body mass, 79.4 ± 15.2 kg) underwent a randomized, crossover experimental design. Following 15 min of supine rest, 10 min of 30 mmHg of lower body negative pressure (LBNP) was applied to simulate a mild hemorrhagic challenge while subjects were normothermic. With LBNP continuing, subjects were exposed to mild whole-body heating (mean skin temperature (Tsk): 36.7 ± 0.5°C), skin surface cooling (Tsk: 29.6 ± 1.0°C), or remained thermoneutral (Tsk: 33.5 ± 0.6°C) for an additional 40 min via a water-perfused suit. A modified Erikson Flanker task was used as a measure of cognitive function. Affective valence and thermal sensations were also assessed. Upon completion of trials, subjects remained supine for 15 min for Tsk to return to baseline temperatures. RESULTS: Interaction between thermal perturbations and LBNP time did not reveal changes in cognitive function, as reflected in response accuracy (P = 0.19), reaction time (P = 0.09) or performance variability (P = 0.16) on the Flanker task. This suggests that LBNP with and without thermal perturbations had little influence on cognitive function. CONCLUSIONS: For the applied level of simulated hemorrhage (30 mmHg LBNP), these data suggest that mild heating of a hemorrhaging victim does not compromise cognitive function, while cooling is not beneficial. It remains unknown whether mild heating would be detrimental during a more profound simulated hemorrhagic challenge.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'Closed Access', the embargo will last until 2017-05-01The student, Paula Poh, accepted the attached license on 2015-04-22 at 10:08.The student, Paula Poh, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2015-04-22 at 10:09.This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2015-04-22 at 13:46.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #8011 on 2015-07-22 at 14:26:06Made available in DSpace on 2015-07-22T22:45:55Z (GMT). Патогенетические механизмы развития послеоперационного гипоспленизма и способы его лечения
Abstract. The conception of postoperative hyposplenism (POH) was created by the author. The report is maintain of conceptual scheme of induction of pathogeneic mechanisms of POH's development and ways of its management. As a basis of POH prophylaxis the spleen-preserving surgery to be considered. The methods of correction POH is xenotransplantation of culture of splenic cells and autosplenotransplantation.
