    On January 13, 1944, the S. S. David B. Johnson was launched. The ship was named after Winthrop\u27s founder and first president Dr. David Bancroft Johnson (1956-1928). It\u27s unique MC Hull No. was 1511. The S. S. David B. Johnson was a Liberty ship used as a cargo ship during World War II along with thousands of other Liberty ships to replace ones lost to German submarines. the S. S. David B. Johnson was scraped in 1968. This photograph is of Mrs. David B. Johnson (1878-1978) christening the S. S. David B.
