Feng-shui and computational fluid dynamics (CFD): Analyzing natural ventilation and human comfort
The paper explores the analogies between Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Feng-Shui by undertaking an analysis of natural ventilation in Jiangmen city, Southern China. Feng-Shui has been used to inform the orientation, layout, and design of buildings in China for thousands of years. The research questions if these concepts are still valid for contemporary building design. Noting that computational simulation methods such as CFD allow architects to analyse the natural ventilation of buildings, this paper provides a novel study that examines if Feng-Shui principles can be reconciled against contemporary design processes. The research simulates 'community', 'block', and 'single courtyard' via CFD study to confirm the scientifically measurable concepts of Feng-Shui have concerning natural ventilation. We conclude that Feng-Shui concepts enhance natural ventilation and subsequently makes a positive contribution to sustainable building and design
A-Train observation of thermodynamic conditions above tropical cyclones
This dataset consists of A-Train observation of thermodynamic conditions above tropical cyclones. Satellite observations that pass over tropical cyclone events are identified in ‘A-Train_overpass_geolocation.nc’. Based on identified satellite overpasses, data samples from AIRS-L1B, DARDAR-Cloud, and MLS v4.2 products are collected. Above observed thick high-level clouds, a synergetic retrieval approach (joint AIRS-DARDAR retrieval, Feng et al. (2021 a, b)) is developed to obtain the thermodynamic profiles above the tropical cyclones.
1. A-Train_overpass_geolocation.nc: Geolocation of tropical cyclones over the Northern part of the West Pacific, derived from CloudSat 2D-TC product. It also includes the granule number of CloudSat and AIRS observations that pass over these tropical cyclones.
2. A-Train_overpass_cloud.nc: Ice water content and cloud categories, as defined in Feng and Huang. (2021), derived from DARDAR-Cloud and CloudSat 2D-CLDCLSS product.
3. A-Train_overpass_AIRS.nc: AIRS brightness temperature at an infrared window channel and a CO2 channel.
4. A-Train_overpass_MLS.nc: Temperature and water vapor from MLS v4.2 product. Only data not affected by high clouds are collected.
5. JointAIRSDARDAR.nc: Temperature, water vapor, and ice water content above tropical cyclone events.

A Conversation with Xianghong Feng, Author of Tourism and Prosperity in Miao Land
In this installment of Lexington Books\u27 Anthropology of Tourism: Heritage, Mobility and Society Author Conversations, series editor Michael A. Di Giovine talks to anthropologist Xianghong Feng, author of the book, Tourism and Prosperity in Miao Land: Power and Inequality in Rural China. With rich ethnographic detail, Feng focuses on the intersection of tourism development, power and inequality in the southern interior of China. Capital-intensive, elite-driven tourism has reshaped the social and cultural patterns of the ethnic Miao. Although tourism is often touted as able to empower women, lower classes, and minorities, Feng shows that often it reinforces the very power structures that it attempts to equalize

This is a curious book. The verso of the title-page says simply "Reprinted from the 1953 edition." From all I can learn, that is true, but that original was printed not by the University Press of the Pacific but by the Foreign Languages Press in Beijing. Indeed, it seems as though this book is a photocopy reprint of that original, and so even the page references in my comment on that book still apply here. These fables are often directly admonitory and/or of a highly political slant. Thus the author writes of skylarks "Poets like these are the true friends of the people" (6). The best of the fables, I believe, are "The Snake and the Rabbit" (42) and "The Original Rat" (61), which may also have the best illustration. Among the most overtly political are those on the imperialist weasel munching a duckling (27) and the imperialist snake against the collective bees (29). Other good fables include "The Hunter and His Wife" (12), "The Lion and the Setting Sun" (15), "The Lion and the Lamb" (34), "The Fox and the Rabbits' Farm" (39), "The Cow and Her Rope" (53), "The Curious Crow" (44), and "The Cow and Her Calf" (54). There is a T of C at the front after the highly political "Publisher's Note." 7½" x 9¼".Feng Hsueh-feng, translated by Gladys Yan
A translation comparison of stray birds between Zheng Zhenduo’s version and Feng Tang’s version : from the perspective of manipulation theory
This paper employed Lefevere’s Manipulation Theory to explain respectively how
three main factors of Manipulation Theory, namely patronage, ideology and poetics
controlled Zheng Zhenduo’s and Feng Tang’s translation activity of Tagore’s Stray
Birds. And then the paper will analyze their translation strategies by comparing
certain poems in Stray Birds. However, author of this paper did not aim to reconfirm
Lefevere’s Manipulation Theory, but under his theoretical framework, tried to
interpret translation phenomenon from an extra-linguistic perspective.
Through analysis and comparison, the importance of three core elements was
different in those two versions. For Zheng Zhenduo, three main elements shared equal
impacts on his translation. His individual ideology and poetics conformed to
prevailing ideology and poetics in those days, and his patronage also exerted a
positive influence, therefore his Stray Birds received favorable reviews.
In Feng Tang’s case, individual poetics played the most important role. Although his
poetics reflected literary trends to some extent, but that is still not the mainstream in
today’s literary market. The translator’s subjectivity in Feng’s version was clearly
stronger than Zheng’s. For the purpose of literary innovation and commercial interests,
patronage did not manipulate Feng’s translation too much. As a result, Feng Tang’s
Stray Birds was forced to stop sales.

Fables: Feng Hsueh-feng
Once this book arrived, I thought it a repeat of something I already have. Closer inspection shows that I have a softbound second edition of 1955, while this is the first edition of 1953. Apparently the order of fables changed significantly in the second edition, though there are fifty-one fables here as there. As I mention there, the fables are often directly admonitory and/or of a highly political slant. Thus the author writes of skylarks ”Poets like these are the true friends of the people” (6). The best of the fables, I believe, are ”The Snake and the Rabbit (42) and ”The Original Rat” (61), which may also have the best illustration. To comply or not to comply: understanding the discretion in reporting public float and SEC regulations
This paper documents how firms exercise discretion in defining affiliates and reporting public float in response to SEC regulations. I find that firms with higher expected compliance costs under Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) of 2002 tend to classify more shares as affiliated and report lower public float. In contrast, firms issuing seasoned equity are less likely to underreport public float, possibly due to favorable regulatory treatment for large issuers. These incentives are weakened when future regulatory changes render float less important.Peer reviewe

Bounds on maximum b-matchings
AbstractIn this note, we study bounds on the maximum cardinality of a b-matching, where a b-matching is an edge set Mb⊆E in a graph G=(V,E) with the constraint that dMb(v)≤b for every vertex v. Here dMb(v) is the degree of v in the subgraph induced by Mb and b∈N is a constant. If b=1, then b-matchings are ordinary matchings. For the maximum cardinality of an ordinary matching, we derive ν(G)≥2m3k−1 for k≥3, where ν(G) denotes the maximum cardinality of a matching in G, m is the number of edges, and k is the maximum degree of G. This answers an open question proposed by Biedl, Demaine, Duncan, Fleischer and Kobourov [T. Biedl, E. Demaine, C. Duncan, R. Fleischer, S. Kobourov, Tight bounds on maximal and maximum matchings, Discrete Math. 285 (1–3) (2004) 7–15]. For the maximum cardinality of a b-matching, we derive νb(G)νb−1(G)≤1+4b−23b2−5b+2 for b≥3, where νb(G) denotes the maximum cardinality of a b-matching in G
