Sex trafficking of girls and women : Evidence from Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh
A crucial gap in the trafficking literature from India is the dearth of primary data and micro studies that could be used for vulnerability mapping of the source areas and addressing the identified risk factors. The present paper is a small attempt to contribute to plugging the gap in the context of Andhra Pradesh, identified as a hot spot in the trafficking literature. This paper is based on case studies of 78 women who had been trafficked from their places of origin in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh to metropolitan cities across India and who have since returned to their homes. The paper attempted to identify the individual and family circumstances that contribute to the causes of trafficking, to highlight in particular the gendered vulnerabilities that set these women up for trafficking, and to capture the process of the trafficking experience. The findings of the study are located in the dynamic interplay of the social structural context and specificities of the district that contribute to causes of trafficking and the individual circumstances and agency of the women. The case studies reported in this paper are a pointer to the compelling urgency of interventions that will go beyond the forced / voluntary divide in trafficking and sex work.Andhra Pradesh, India, trafficking
2018 ASHA Research Symposium: Swathi Kiran, Neuroplasticity and Language Recovery

The abstract for the accompanying article is below. This article is part of the JSLHR Forum: Advances in Neuroplasticity Research on Language Recovery in Aphasia.Purpose: Despite a tremendous amount of research in this topic, the precise neural mechanisms underlying language recovery remain unclear. Much of the evidence suggests that activation of remaining left-hemisphere tissue, including perilesional areas, is linked to the best treatment outcomes, yet recruitment of the right hemisphere for various language tasks has also been linked to favorable behavioral outcomes. In this review article, we propose a framework of language recovery that incorporates a network-based view of the brain regions involved in recovery.Method: We review evidence from the extant literature and work from our own laboratory to identify findings consistent with our proposed framework and identify gaps in our current knowledge.Results: Expanding on Heiss and Thiel’s (2006) hierarchy of language recovery, we identify 4 emerging themes: (a) Several bilateral regions constitute a network engaged in language recovery; (b) spared left-hemisphere regions are important components of the network engaged in language recovery; (c) as damage increases in the left hemisphere, activation expands to the right hemisphere and domain-general regions; and (d) patients with efficient, control-like network topology show greater improvement than paients with abnormal topology. We propose a mechanistic model of language recovery that accounts for individual differences in behavior, network topology, and treatment responsiveness.Conclusion: Continued work in this topic will lead us to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying language recovery, biomarkers that influence recovery, and, consequently, more personalized treatment options for individual patients.Kiran, S., Meier, E. Unveiling the ChatGPT Educational Revolution: Assessing the Dynamic Impact on Students and Educators
Due to shifting social demands and technology breakthroughs, the higher education environment is changing quickly. Despite initiatives to make education accessible to everyone, accessibility is still a major problem, especially in light of the digital divide. This study investigates how ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, can revolutionize higher education by tackling important problems including resource efficiency, personalized learning, and accessibility. This study intends to improve learning outcomes for both students and educators by comprehending how instructors and students incorporate ChatGPT into instructional methods. Students and instructors were given both quantitative and qualitative questionnaires as part of a mixed-methods approach, in order to gather data on the usage of ChatGPT for different academic tasks, such as lesson preparation, grading, and student help. Results showed that most people believe ChatGPT to be a useful tool that improves productivity, saves time, and helps with grasping difficult subjects. Questions were raised concerning the veracity of the data that ChatGPT offered and the necessity of organized training. ChatGPT and other AI technologies have the potential to enhance educational results by enabling personalized instruction and offering on-demand learning help. In addition to the continuing discussion on the use of cutting-edge technology in higher education, the findings provide insightful information for educational institutions seeking to use AI to improve teaching and learning. Matching in power graphs of finite groups

In this paper, the matching numbers of power graphs of finite groups are investigated. We give upper and lower bounds, and conditions for the power graph of a group to possess a perfect matching. We give a formula for the matching number for any finite nilpotent group. In addition, using some elementary number theory, we show that the matching number of the enhanced power graph Pe(G) of G (in which two elements are adjacent if both are powers of a common element) is equal to that of the power graph of G.Peer reviewe

A rectifier is an electrical device, comprising one or more semiconductor devices arranged for converting alternating current to direct current by blocking the negative or positive portion of the waveform. The purpose of this study would be to evaluate dynamic and static electrical characteristics of rectifier chips fabricated with (a) DY8 process and (b) YI8 process and compare them with the existing DI8 process rectifiers. These new rectifiers were tested to compare their performance to meet or exceed requirements of lower forward voltages, leakage currents, reverse recovery time, and greater sustainability at higher temperatures compared to diodes manufactured using boron as base (DI8 process diodes) for similar input variables
Characterization of the flow-field in circular subsonic impinging jets: Investigation of surface pressure fluctuations and far-field noise emissions through pressure sensor measurements
Impinging jets are relevant ow configurations in many technological developments. For example, on some short take-off and landing aircraft the high speed exhaust from the jet engine is deflected by direct impingement on the aps to create extra lift during take-off. Fatigue due to excessive dynamic loading on the aps and high levels of noise radiation are among the problems encountered in such designs. Additionally, such flow-structure interaction is a good model for cooling of turbine blades, annealing of plastic and metal sheets, deicing of aircraft systems etc.. Jets are easy to simulate and contain all the constituents necessary for the study of shear flows. The shear-layer instability at the nozzle edge develops into axisymmetric toroidal vortices which magnifies in size and strength downstream of the nozzle. The interaction of these vortices with the solid structures induces pressure fluctuations that manifests in the form of noise in the far-field region. <b>Clinical and pathological characteristics of Blastoid mantle cell lymphoma: a single institution experience</b>
Blastoid mantle cell lymphoma (B-MCL) is a rare aggressive lymphoma. It is characterized by blastoid morphology with high proliferation and inconsistent immunohistochemistry (IHC), making it a diagnostic challenge for the pathologist.This is a retrospective analytical cohort study. We reviewed biopsy confirmed cases of B-MCL diagnosed over a period of 10 years. The clinical presentation, histopathological and IHC findings, treatment received, and survival outcomes were studied. Randomly selected cases of classic MCL (N=12), diagnosed during the same period served as controls.</p
Evaluation and development of methods for measurement of penetration of filtering facepiece respirators

Filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) are widely used as a form of respiratory protection against diesel particulate matter (DPM) in occupational settings. The objective of this study was to evaluate NIOSH-certified R95 and P95 electret respirators challenged with Diesel exhaust and get a better understanding of the factors that influence penetration. Two techniques were employed for the measurement of penetration: (a) particle counting technique using a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS, TSI Inc.) which measures particle size distribution, and (b) Gravimetric analysis using polyfluortetraethylene (PTFE) and polypropylene (PP) filters. Gravimetric measurements using PP filters were variable compared to SMPS measurements and biased high as a result of the adsorption of gas-phase semi-volatile material. Relatively inert PTFE filters adsorbed less semi-volatile material resulting in more accurate measurements. To attempt to correct for these artifacts associated with adsorption of semi-volatile material, primary and secondary filters were used in series upstream and downstream of the FFR. Correcting for adsorption by subtracting the secondary mass from the primary mass improved the result for both PTFE and PP filters but this correction is subject to “equilibrium” conditions that depend on sampling time and the concentration of particles and semi-volatile material. Overall, the results demonstrate that great care must be taken when using filters to determine filtration efficiency of FFRs challenged with diesel exhaust. Pure PTFE or other filters that minimize adsorption of semi-volatile artifacts and two filters should be used in tandem to allow correction for adsorbed artifacts. Analysis of SMPS measurements indicated that the respirators behave differently for Diesel exhaust generated at light and heavy load on engine. At light load, the penetration of the R-95 and P-95 respirators showed a steep increase with time, exceeding the maximum allowed penetration of 5% after about 40 minutes. Whereas at heavy load, the respirators were found to have a relatively unchanging penetration (less than 5%) throughout the 90-minute test duration. This difference was attributed to the presence of a high concentration of organic carbon (OC) in Diesel exhaust which has a tendency to degrade the electric charges on the respirators, thus reducing the filtration enhancement from electrostatic attraction forces. To account for the complex nature of DPM and its varying properties with changes in operating and sampling condition, an oxidation-dilution tunnel was designed to produce Diesel exhaust with a controlled set of properties: elemental carbon (EC) concentration, OC concentration, EC/OC ratio and volume flow rate. This device was used to evaluate R-95 and P-95 respirators for solid Diesel exhaust aerosol. The methodology proved to be effective in controlling the EC concentration and total volume flow rate. Results showed that the R-95 and P-95 respirators were more than 95% efficient for solid Diesel exhaust aerosol. This thesis is divided into two parts.
