Factors Driving University Choice: A Principal Component Analysis on Italian Institutions
[EN] When investigating students’ motivations to enroll in university, a wide range of elements related to the overall student experience concerning both the institution and the surrounding context should be taken into account. The current study moves from this point to analyse students’ choice factors from a survey completed by 27,705 students across 23 Italian institutions by means of a logistic Principal Component Analysis. Results confirm the presence of multiple factors jointly influencing students’ choice, with geographical proximity, job opportunities in the region, university reputation and ease of access opposing one another. Aggregating results at institutional level, students’ distribution prove to be highly heterogeneous across universities. From this, a managerial tool is provided to position student population and derive strategic implications. Finally, policy considerations are reported.http://ocs.editorial.upv.es/index.php/HEAD/HEAD18Azzone, G.; Soncin, M. (2018). Study on the Value of the Innovation Partnership
This study aims to propose a methodology that public buyers can use during the evaluation and negotiation phase of a contract based on the innovation partnership (IP) procedure, to ensure that no undue price is paid and to compare the offers of different suppliers.
After outlining the objectives and organisation, Section 1.2 briefly summarises the elements that characterise – from an economic point of view – an IP-based supply and the related implications that make it difficult to determine a market price. Section 1.3 explains how these issues can be addressed through a methodology, based on the concept of strategic
option, and highlights the information needed to apply it in practice. Section 1.4 introduces the operating methods that can be used for the evaluation of these elements; for each of them, it indicates which solution should be chosen according to the characteristics of the specific supply. Section 1.5 addresses some special cases. Finally, the last section identifies a few possible safeguard clauses to be adopted to protect the administration from the risk of a breach of State-aid rules, starting from the proportionality tests provided for in the European Union directives

Multiphase Induction Motor Control
This chapter presents a new complex dynamic model of a multiphase induction motor considering an arbitrary number of stator and rotor phases and including the odd order harmonic injection. Starting from the machine equations, the indirect rotor field-oriented control (IRFOC) is extended to the multiphase general case. Finally, some simulation results are presented in the specific case of a five-phase induction motor. The power-oriented graphs (POG) technique is a graphical energy-based technique particularly suitable for modeling dynamic physical systems. The basic structure of a multiphase star-connected induction motor is shown in the chapter. The electrical and mechanical parameters of the motor are listed in a table. All the electrical parameters of the motor have been obtained connecting in series the p polar couples of the motor. This edition first published 2013 © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd
