No full textThe proper and thorough functioning of the education process is based on the cooperation of the elements in education. Among the elements that should cooperate and act in harmony are teachers, school administrators and experts in educational management and supervision. Further, a curriculum is needed for the education process to proceed in a planned manner. This study aims to explore the metaphorical perceptions of teachers concerning the concepts of principal, inspector and curriculum. A qualitative research design was adopted in this study. The study group was formed through convenience and purposive sampling methods, and the study was conducted with 25 primary school teachers working in Northern Cyprus. A two-stage form was used to identify the metaphorical perceptions of the teachers. The collected data were analysed through content analysis method. They considered principals as the leader and manager of the school they worked in while stressing moderate or rigid attitudes of certain principals. Associations related to the concept of inspector were mostly about guidance%253B however, they also mentioned the negative characteristics of the inspectors they encountered regarding human relations. Finally, the concept of curriculum was perceived as a guiding adviser and as having a difficult, complex and restrictive structure. In the light of the results, it is recommended that principals be supported as regards human relations, managing relationships and communication, benefiting from guidance services in this regard. Toward Sustainable Schools: A Mixed Methods Approach to Investigating Distributed Leadership, Organizational Happiness, and Quality of Work Life in Preschools
No full textPrevious research shows that sustainable organization conditions are associated with high levels of teacher well-being. Organizational happiness and quality of work life, two indicators of teacher well-being in an organization, impact the outcomes of teachers and organizations. Determining ways to support the organizational happiness and quality of work life variables in the organizational environment are gaining significance. Distributed leadership has attracted attention in the literature with its principles. Adopting a sequential explanatory design, qualitative data were collected after quantitative data. In the quantitative component, it was hypothesized that organizational happiness could play a mediating role in the relation between distributed leadership and quality of work life. This was tested through structural equation modeling, and the findings indicated that organizational happiness had a full mediation effect. In the qualitative component, the opinions of administrators regarding the effects of their behaviors on organizational happiness and quality of work life of teachers were investigated within the scope of distributed leadership. The results indicated that administrators’ own behaviors in the school context displayed distributed leadership characteristics
WHAT CYPRIOT CHILDREN THINK ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF PEACE?
Get PDFCyprus is a Mediterranean island inhabited by two communities with a common culture, although they speak different languages. Since 1974, efforts to reconcile these two communities, living apart from each other in different parts of the island, have become more important in recent years and efforts have been made to ensure a lasting solution on the island. Within the scope of these efforts, non-governmental organizations in Cyprus are also carrying out various studies with the support of the European Union. This is one of those studies, which was carried out with the support of the Grow Civil Program. The purpose of this study is to examine the metaphors of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot children created about the concept of peace. The study group consists of 23 children, aged between six and ten. Children were given a form written in Turkish and Greek languages with an expression on it as "Peace is like........ because.........." and they were asked to fill in the gaps. The obtained data were analyzed and reported by the content analysis method. Results indicate that the metaphors produced by Turkish Cypriot children are related to emotions, behaviors and individuals, while the Greek Cypriots’ are related to space, aesthetic perception, and individuals. While politicians are seeking for a permanent solution on the island, non-governmental organizations and activists have been organizing various activities to increase mutual trust between the two communities.
