Democratic Welfare State as Visualised by the Quaid-i-Azam
The Quaid-i-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is known more for his political achievements than for his socio-economic thought. Last two decades, however, have seen a continuous flow of books containing his speeches, statements, messages, interviews, discussions in pre-independence legislative bodies and addresses in the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. Even a cursory look at this vast literature shows that he was not only concerned with the political aspect of sub-continent’s independence movement but also consistently expressed his views regarding the socio-economic uplift of masses in general and Muslim society in particular. These views in their bare essentials reflect a remarkable continuity of approach from the earlier days of his political career to the period he occupied the position of Governor General of Pakistan. Actually, he became more and more expressive and forthright as the prospects of Pakistan coming into existence became bright. When Pakistan finally appeared as a sovereign nation on the map of the world, he openly rejected the prevailing economic system as having failed to do justice between man and man and to eradicate friction from the international field.
First person – Ahmed Elbediwy
First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Ahmed Elbediwy is the first author on ‘Enigma proteins regulate YAP mechanotransduction’, published in Journal of Cell Science. Ahmed is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Barry Thompson at The Francis Crick Institute, London, UK, investigating the cytoskeleton, RhoGTPases and the regulation of YAP/TAZ oncoproteins
Electrochemistry, Photophysics and Spectroscopy of a New Class of Electron Transfer Quenchers. Crisjoe Joseph & Azam Ahmed
A quencher provides two additional routes for the excited species to return to the ground state: energy transfer and electron transfer. This project looks at ruthenium compounds that do not absorb at these high wavelengths and are believed to be excellent reductive quenchers. Cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-pyrazolylborate, cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-(3-5-dimethyl) pyrazolylborate and pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-pyrazolylborate will be tested. Stern-Volmer analysis, cyclic voltametry, and transient absorption spectra will be taken and analyzed. From the determined Kq, reductive potentials and transient absorption spectrum, one can ascertain the predominant route of quenching. Along with these ruthenium-boron complexes the ruthenium-carbon analogs (Cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-(3-5-dimethyl) pyrazolylmethyl, cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-pyrazolylmethyl and cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-(3-t-butyl)pyrazolylmethyl) will be synthesized. These compounds are of interest because they should be soluble in water, unlike the ruthenium-boron complexes. It was found from the transient absorption spectrum that the majority of the quenching that occurred because of pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-pyrazolylborate was occurring through electron transfer. In contrast, cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-pyrazolylborate quenched almost exclusively through energy transfer. Both energy transfer and electron transfer played equal paths of quenching due to cyclopentadienyl ruthenium tris-(3-5-dimethyl) pyrazolylborate

PERCEPTION OF PAKISTANI CORPORATE CUSTOMERS TOWARD ISLAMIC BANKING PRODUCTS AND SERVICES (CASE RELATED TO PAKISTAN)
Islamic banking system is established preliminary in Pakistan since 1 July 1985,and now in 2009 the network of Islamic banking system is expended and consist of 13 different conventional banking windows and 6 full-fledged Islamic banking system. However these products are not fully adopted by the customers. Corporate customers are considered as major role player in the economy. In this research the perception of corporate customers is tried to understand. The study targeted the awareness of Islamic banking products, their marketing strategy regarding advertisement, cost of products and services and its impact on the corporate customer’s perception toward the banking selection. We will try to implement the correlation model between different independent variable and that of dependent variable. The study will help in the promotion of the Islamic banking in Pakistan, especially in corporate sectorIslamic banking system, customers, corporate customer perception
