Abstract The aim of this study was to describe interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in the management of neonatal pain, to identify the need for educational intervention, and to evaluate the feasibility of the Swiss NEODOL-intervention for neonatal pain management in the Finnish context. The study followed the British Medical Research Council's framework and consisted of two phases: identifying the intervention and assessing the feasibility of the intervention. Both phases included descriptive qualitative studies, with Phase I also incorporating a quantitative cross-sectional study. In the Phase I quantitative cross-sectional study, professionals (n = 132) representing various occupational groups from four university hospitals' neonatal intensive care units participated. According to their assessments, Finnish neonatal pain management is moving towards collaboration as measured by the Assessment of Interprofessional Collaboration Scale (AITCS-FIN). Physicians, midwives, non-unit-based professionals, and those with higher academic degrees rated the level of collaboration higher than nurses. In the qualitative descriptive study, parents (n = 16) recruited across Finland, through the national preterm infant association, were interviewed. According to their experiences, IPC involved understanding pain management in a partnership setting, feeling included, and experiencing appreciation. Collaboration included identifying roles and a sense of equality. Coordination emphasized sharing knowledge, skills, and expertise, as well as experiencing encouragement. In the Phase II qualitative descriptive study, focus groups consisting of professionals and parents (n = 13) from two university hospitals were interviewed regarding their evaluation of the NEODOL-intervention. According to them, the intervention was feasible due to its topic relevance and functional structure, but it still requires local evaluation and refinement. The study provided new information on neonatal pain management in the context of how the level of IPC is assessed in Finland, how parents experience IPC, and what kind of intervention could improve the quality of neonatal pain management. The information obtained from the study can be utilized in developing models and interventions that promote IPC and improve the quality of neonatal pain management. Vaihe I ja II sisälsivät kuvailevan laadullisen tutkimuksen ja vaihe I lisäksi määrällisen poikkileikkaustutkimuksen. Vaiheen I määrälliseen poikkileikkaustutkimukseen osallistui eri ammattiryhmiä edustavia ammattihenkilöitä (n = 132) neljän yliopistosairaalan vastasyntyneiden teho-osastoilta. Kyselyn mukaan Suomessa ollaan menossa kohti yhteistyötä vastasyntyneiden kivunhoidossa moniammatillista tiimiyhteistyötä mittaavan mittarin (AITCS-FIN) avulla arvioituna. Lääkärit, kätilöt, osaston ulkopuoliset ammattiryhmät sekä korkeamman akateemisen tutkinnon suorittaneet arvioivat yhteistyön tason paremmaksi kuin sairaanhoitajat. Laadullisessa kuvailevassa tutkimuksessa haastateltiin vanhempia (n=16) kaikkialta Suomesta kansallisen keskoslasten yhdistyksen kautta. Richardson, Barbauld, and the construction of an early modern fan club

MPhilMuch has been written about the life and long works of the eighteenth century epistolary novelist, Samuel Richardson, but the prospect of his position as the first celebrity novelist – responsible for courting his own fame as well as initiating his own fan club – has largely been ignored. The body of manuscripts housed at the National Art Library in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London provides the modern scholar with evidence of the skeletal beginnings of an early fan club. This thesis aims to show how these manuscripts were turned into a saleable commodity by the publisher and entrepreneur Richard Phillips, while under the guiding hand of another, slightly later, literary celebrity, Anna Laetitia Barbauld. In order to restore Richardson’s reputation amongst a new nineteenth century audience, Barbauld was required to construct her own idea of him as an eighteenth century celebrity author, and in doing so the insecurities of a self-professed, apparently diffident man, are revealed. Barbauld’s capacious, but heavily edited selection of letters is analyzed in this thesis, providing ample evidence that Richardson’s correspondents were more than just eager letter writers. By using Barbauld’s biography of Richardson this thesis aims to show how she manipulates the genre of life writing in her construction of him. This thesis offers an alternative reading of how the Richardson manuscripts are viewed, redefining them as not simply a collection of letters, but as a collective entity, deliberately selected and archived as evidence of an early modern fan club, and its celebrity managing director
