    The Effects of Electronic Human Resource Management on Organisational Stability and Growth

    Although the connection between firm growth and labour is well documented in economics literature, only recently the link between electronic human resources (HR) and firm growth has attracted the interest of researchers. So in IT based today economy the need for e-HRM has become imperative to meet the HR challenges of 21st century. The paper view e-HRM as an umbrella term covering the integration of HRM and n: aimed at creating value for targeted employees and managers. The study evaluates the effects of electronic human resource management practices on organizational stability and growth. The study provides insight to management to use these practices as strategic tool for superior performance. The paper shows that as the latest advanced technologies offer the potential to streamline many organizational functions, so is case with human resources. It suggest that organizations should realize the impact of this new change on employees, managers, and human resource staff and understand its dimensions in order to manage the effects with a corporate strategy that is open to change. The paper concludes that Electronic Human Resource Management is an advance business solution which provides a complete on-line support in · tl~e management of all processes, activities, data and information required to manage human resources in a modern organisation

    EFFECT OF THE NEW PENSION SCHEME ON SUSTAINABLE WELFARE AND POST-SERVICE LIFE IMPROVEMENT OF RETIREES IN LAGOS

    E fficient and effective public and private sector organizations arc expected to see to the maximum well-being of their employees. That is, in and post service and especially for employees that have contributed meaningfully to the achievement of the organizational goals. Part of such management responsibility is payment of post service compensation or pension which provides the employees the security and right that gives guaranteed income on retirement or to dependants on death. The study attempts" comparative analysis of the old and new pension scheme in Nigeria and the extent to which the new scheme has significantly influenced the welfare and life improvement of the retirees in Lagos the commercial hub of Nigeria. The study adopts the survey research design. Two hypotheses are tested using chi-square (X2) test at 0.05level of significance. Major findings show that a lot of defects exist in the old scheme and that the administration and collection of pensions by prisoners have been very poor. There is a significant relationship between the operation of the new pension scheme and the welfare of pensionners(X2 Cal= 33.27, X2 Tab= 12.59), and their life improvement after service (X2 Cal 27.97. X2 Tab 12.59). In conclusion, it is recommended that much attention be given to public education and enlightenment of all stakeholders for them to be conversant with the administration of the new scheme and proper measures put in place to guarantee safety of the funds. These should include sustained capacity of building of officials and investment strategies. The new scheme should be shielded from the effect of aspects of the highly corrupt and unethical public governance and economic management systems in Nigeria and encumbered in strong strategic plan, long-term economic development, sustainable welfare of retirees and inclusive strategy

    Leadership has become an intellectual issue, a socio-political, cultural and economic development challenge in Africa. This is because of what Africa countries and economies have missed in terms of the emergence, practice and benefits derivable from outstanding leadership qualities expected from African leaders and elites for a rigorous and effectively driven implementation of sustainable political-economic, national, and millennium development. The paper examines the urgent need for the promotion of truly outstanding leadership qualities among African leaders at all levels for overcoming the challenges of emerging democracy, inclusion and sustainable development in Africa. Relevant literature on conceptual and theoretical frameworks on outstanding leadership qualities, the standard form of Western democracy autochthonous, the kind of democracy Africa needs, sustainable development practices in Africa in general and Nigeria in particular. The findings reveal that the persistent dearth and failure of leadership qualities among African political and elitist leaders. As regards policy implications the emergence of outstanding leidership qualities among these leaders constitutes the best practices approach in overcoming impedrments to cost beneficial, democratic systems, the practice of good governance for the required masses oriented, empowerment, inclusive democratic systems and sustainable development for African Countries
