This article describes the conversational behaviour of trainers in three educational webinars. FORMES NOMINALES D’ADRESSE EN FRANÇAIS : CARTOGRAPHIE DES FONCTIONS PRAGMATIQUES DANS LES INTERACTIONS DIDACTIQUES EN CONTEXTE CAMEROUNAIS
The fundamental premise that underlies this study is that every interaction inevitably
encompasses an addressing activity. In fact, nominal forms of address assume strategic functions in
sociolinguistic practices in a learning context. This study presents a mapping of the pragmatic forms
and functions of French nominal forms of address (FNA) in teacher-learner interactions in Cameroon.
The mapping is based on natural data collected through observation and inspired by previous research.
The analysis is limited to NFAs employed by teachers to address their students. The analysis yielded
insights into the forms and functions that were preferred. The study also demonstrated that among the
linguistic resources available to the teacher for the purposes of organising, regulating, engaging
students and leading the class, terms of address occupy a significant position. The observation of
nominal forms of address in this context also provides insight into the intersubjective representations
of students, the conditions of interaction and the relational dynamics present in learning situations.
They are also part of a pedagogical and relational strategy that determines the dynamics of classroom
interaction
Speech act of claiming among Cameroonian and Chadian French speakers
This article examines the ways in which Cameroonian and Chadian speakers are producing the speech act of claiming. The study focuses on situations in which the speaker occupies the position of claimant. The aim of the study is to describe the main pragmatic variations between the two groups of speakers. The methodological approach is based on variational pragmatics. The results show that the strategies are similar, but there are strong differences in the types of formulations and mitigation strategies. The results indicate that the Cameroonian data presented more indirect realisations of acts than the Chadian data. Participants from both language communities used a variety of markers to modify their claims. External modifications typically included politeness forms, forms of address, apologies, justifications, greetings and thanks. Internal modifications also included modalisers and minimisers
This study explores linguistic politeness as manifested in classroom interpersonal relationship. The field of study includes five general education secondary schools in the city of Yaoundé (Cameroon). The subject matter focuses on the staging of faces in the educational relationship and the connection between this staging and the socio-cultural environment. The hypothesis is based on the idea of a continuum between face efforts, defined in terms of conduct toward the face, and operative efforts, expressed in terms of the teacher’s acting and the learner being put into activity. The approach is empirical, including field observation and audio recordings of interactions in language classes. Linguistic politeness is studied through terms of address, requests of commitment and speech turns. The analysis carried out on the basis of these three criteria reveals a number of conclusions related to linguistic politeness, interpersonal relationship and professional practice. Face work occupies an important place in the educational relationship. It is both part of the identity building process and the acting of the teacher. These conducts are influenced by the interactional environment, traditions and institutional constraints. Besides, they reveal the primacy of operative or educational efforts over face efforts. This primacy motivates a range of conducts more or less favorable to the learner’s face, while revealing tension between professional and institutional norms. Beyond the focus on linguistic politeness, this study analyses pedagogic discourse and professional practice. Here, the pedagogic discourse is bearer of cultural and institutional implicits on the social and professional identity of teacher and learner, and on the conception of the teaching profession. Furthermore, the present study highlights the encounter between teaching professional practice and ethics. In this respect, it raises the problem of the relationship between educational ideals and professional practices, the school’s responsibilities in the achievement of educational goals expressed in terms of training for democracy and human rights, training for autonomy. It also raises the issue of pedagogic models in the ideology of equal opportunity
LES ÉCHANGES RITUELS D’ACCUEIL DANS QUELQUES FAMILLES DE MAROUA : SPÉCIFICITÉS ET PRINCIPES / RITUAL INTERACTIONS BETWEEN HOSTS AND VISITORS IN SOME FAMILIES OF MAROUA: CHARACTERISTICS AND PRINCIPLES
This article, based on the analysis of discourse in interaction, examines the ritual interaction of hospitality during family visits in the Far North region of Cameroon. The research focuses on the discursive and interactional aspects of the relationship with the other and on the linguistic expression of hospitality. The aim is to describe how exchanges between visitors and hosts interact by examining the discursive strategies, behaviours and social norms that are used. The empirical data consists of eight conversations observed in several families in Maroua. The analyses show that ritual interaction between visitors and hosts in this socio-cultural context can be considered as a constellation of relational sequences. During this macro-sequence, the participants perform verbal and non-verbal acts that contribute to the expression of the relationship with the other, to the representation of otherness and to the construction of the self-image.
This article describes the préconstruit of living together in the Cameroonian discursive space base on the study of four types of political discourse. The analysis, which is based on the hypothesis of an ideological continuum and founded on dialogism reveals that the repetition of the préconstruit at all the levels of formulation leads to the stabilization of the ideology of living together in the collective memory.
This article draws upon two case studies of public apologies shared on Facebook, with the objective of elucidating the discourse strategies employed by Cameroonian Internet users in the expression of refusal. The analysis focuses on digital comments and adopts the approach of illocutionary pragmatics and digital discourse analysis. The findings indicate that the speakers use elaborate, indirect, and emotional formulations. These expressions manifest in diverse forms, including irony, insults, and polemical discourse. The analysis further demonstrates that the digital environment fosters a decline in inhibition, thereby precipitating conflict. The management of confrontation is characterised by the polarisation of conflict, linguistic hybridity and the cultural expression of refusal. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that specific factors, including the identity of the offender, the severity of the offence and the setting, exert influence on relational dynamics

This article examines the pragmatics of the communicative act of well-wishing during the Ramadan fast-breaking celebration in Maroua. The speech act is studied on the strength of four situations observed in families, and its analysis is based on Kerbrat-Orecchioni's politeness model (1992, 1996, 2005). The ethnolectal characteristics show that the votive speech act is strongly affected by factors such as religion, collectivism and social values. The prevalent formulations are both explicit and implicit and are based on a very wide range of morphosyntactic and semantic properties. The study also highlights the semantic content of the speech act of well-wishing, which underlies and predetermines the speakers' linguistic choices. In votive utterances, the collectivist nature of the society plays a predominant role and is actualised linguistically by personal deixis: affective, relational, and inclusive pronouns.
