Des approches sociologiques de la formation des maîtres

    No full text
Claude Lessard describes four sociological approaches of teacher training. These approaches attribute more or less importance to training in the development of the professional identity of teachers. - The symbolic-interactionist approach. - The structural-fonctionalist approach. - The marxist approach. - The approach in terms of field. The author invites us not to consider those four approaches as exclusive but rather to replace them on a continuum going from the actors and their links with the training system to the training system itself and its relations with the educational system and society. If the sociology of teacher training wants to be something more than a plurality of perspectives, it has nowadays to search for its own coherence. Lessard Claude, Lahaye Louise, Tardif Maurice. Probing the relationship between electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves and plasmaspheric plumes near geosynchronous orbit

Plasmaspheric plumes created during disturbed geomagnetic conditions have been suggested as a major cause of increased occurrences of electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves at these times. We have catalogued occurrences of strong Pc1 EMIC waves from 1996 through 2003 at three automated geophysical observatories operated by the British Antarctic Survey at auroral zone latitudes in Antarctica (L = 6.28, 7.68, and 8.07) and have compared them to the occurrence of plasmaspheric plumes in space, using simultaneous data from the Magnetospheric Plasma Analyzer on the Los Alamos National Laboratory 1990-095 spacecraft, in geosynchronous orbit at the same magnetic longitude. A superposed epoch analysis of these data was conducted for several categories of disturbed geomagnetic conditions, including magnetic storms, high-speed streams, and storm sudden commencements. We found only a weak correspondence between the occurrence of strong Pc1 waves observed on the ground and either plasmaspheric plumes or intervals of extended plasmasphere at geosynchronous orbit before, during, or after the onset of any of these categories. Strong Pc1 activity peaked near or slightly after local noon during all storm phases, consistent with equatorial observations by the Active Magnetospheric Particle Tracer Explorers/Charge Composition Explorer satellite at these L shells. The highest Pc1 occurrence probability was at or 1-2 days before storm onset and during the late recovery phase. Occurrence was lowest during the early recovery phase, consistent with the decrease in solar wind pressure often seen at this time. The peak at onset is consistent with earlier observations of waves in the outer magnetosphere stimulated by sudden impulses and magnetospheric compressions

Évolution du métier d'enseignant et nouvelle régulation de l'éducation

    No full text
After a brief clarification of the concept of professionnalisation, the author analyses four changes that, combined together, contribute to a new regulation of education. This new regulation is caracterized by the evolution 1) from a domination of educational offer to that of educational demand, 2) from a bureaucratic control of educational processes to a more "professionnal" forms of accountability, 3) from a priority put on access to education, to an emphasis on obligation of results (both quantitative and qualitative), 4) from a system controlled at the center to organisational units more autonomous, and 5) by change strategies geared to facilitate the implementation of the learning paradigm. The author discusses the possible consequences of this new regulation on teaching and its professionnalisation. He concludes on the necessity of knowing more on on-going processes of identity transformation. Lessard Claude. Profiling Concurrent Programs Using Hardware Counters

I hereby declare that I am the sole author of this thesis. This is a true copy of the thesis, including any required final revisions, as accepted by my examiners. I understand that my thesis may be made electronically available to the public. iii Concurrency is a programming tool that is widely used in applications. Con-current user-level threads can be used to structure the execution of a program in a uniprocessor environment and/or speed up its execution in a multiprocessor setting. Unfortunately, threads may interact with each other in unpredictable ways, often leading to performance problems that are nonexistent in the sequential domain. A profiler can be used to help locate performance problems in sequential and concurrent programs. A profiler is a tool that monitors, analyzes, and visualizes the execution performance of a program to help users verify its expected behaviour, and locate its bottlenecks and hotspots. One of the important tools a profiler has at its disposal is a set of hardware counters, which are specialized CPU registers that count the occurrences of hardware events as a program executes. Hardware-event counts provide extremely precise insight into the execution behaviour of a program, and can be used to pinpoint portions of code where performance is suboptimal. This thesis describes the design and implementation of µProfiler, which is a profiler for sequential and concurrent programs written in a concurrent dialect of the C++ programming language called µC++. µC++ offers user-level concurrency in a uniprocessor or multiprocessor shared-memory environment. A new architecture-abstraction layer is developed, which allows µProfiler to access hardware counters on multiple CPU types. As well, two new profiling metrics are presented, which use the architecture-abstraction layer to gather hardware-event counts for µC++ programs. These metrics offer performance information about µC++ programs that is unavailable by any other means

Describing Health Service Platform Architectures: A Guiding Framework

    No full text
Health service platforms (HSPs) facilitate new ways of delivering health care, in order to improve care effectiveness and efficiency. HSPs are a sub-type of digital platforms that have a different purpose compared to market-oriented platforms for product innovation or economic transactions. Hence, traditional descriptions of digital platform architecture, such as the layered modular architecture, may not be sufficient to capture the essential features of HSPs. We create an initial framework for describing HSP architectures in a manner that reflects their purpose, drawing from literature on Service-Dominant Logic and architectural patterns. The framework will be used to guide a multiple-case study of HSP architecture. The results of this research will extend current conceptualizations of digital platform architectures and provide a systematic approach for designing or evolving HSP platform architectures in a manner that better meets patients’ and other health care stakeholders’ needs
