Aversa. L'Annunziata.
At the south-east of Aversa, developed beyond the town walls, is the complex of the Annunziata, characterized, since the Angevin’s period, by the dual mission of orphanage and hospital. The triumphal marble arch entrance can be ascribed to Tommaso Malvito. In the Baroque period in addition to the church enlargement, that had the contribution of some protagonists of Neapolitan architecture as Fra Giuseppe Nuvolo, Francesco Antonio Picchiatti and Giovan Battista Nauclerio, the bell tower was completed, by Bartolomeo Vecchione, showing the entrance to the town, together with the linking arch known as Porta Napoli. In the nineteenth century the church was rebuilt following the collapse of the dome. Starting from 1830 a transformation of the complex began, directed by Gennaro Gaudiosi since 1942, whose grandiose project of rebuilding the structure, with the construction of the central staircase and the addition of more rooms. The new complex opened in 1868, worked as a hospital still after the Second World War, and nowadays houses the seat of the Faculty of Engineering of the Second University of Naples
Photo editing and the risk of anorexia nervosa among children and adolescents
Abstract Filters and photoediting are widely used to transform or alter photos, mainly selfies, before sharing with friends or on social networks. In adult population there is a strong evidence of the potential risks of this behaviuor. Aim of the present work is to revise international literature exploring the correlation between photo manipulation and anorexia nervosa among children and adolescents. International literature focusing on photo manipulation and anorexia nervosa has been examined, according to the PRISMA Extension guidelines for Scoping Reviews using the following strategies: “Photomanipulation” Filters: English, Child: 6–12 years, Adolescent: 13–18 years, from 2000–2024 Pubmed Search: ((“Photography“[Mesh]) AND “Anorexia Nervosa“[Mesh]) AND “Anorexia Nervosa“[Majr] Filters: Adolescent: 13–18 years, Child: 6–12 years, from 2000–2024. According to the literature review strategy, only few and limited evidences are available for the pediatric population. As well as in adults, there is an increased risk for eating disorders in adolescents regularly sharing selfies and practicing photo manipulation. New social media and online chat may be associated with lower personal weight satisfaction, higher drive for thinness, and eating disorder symptoms. The Italian Pediatric Society Communication Group suggests to increase the awareness on the potential risks of photo manipulation among children and adolescents, suggesting the plan of more studies target to this population to gain evidence specifically, social campaigns and school education. Finally, the use of technology should be included as part of routine pediatric control visit, especially in the pre-adolescence period
La Real Casa dell'Annunziata di Aversa
Situated in the south-east area of Aversa, the complex of the Annunziata developed beyond the town walls, and since the Angevin period it has served a dual mission, that of an orphanage for the reception of abandoned girls, and as a hospital. The construction of the church, prior to 1320, was followed, between the fifteenth and sixteenth century, by its new function as a care mission, testified by the triumphal marble arch entrance that can be ascribed to Tommaso Malvito. In the Baroque period, in addition to the church’s enlargement, which was the work of the Neapolitan architects Fra’ Giuseppe Nuvolo, Francesco Antonio Picchiatti and Giovan Battista Nauclerio, the bell tower was also completed. The tower, designed by Bartolomeo Vecchione, acts as the entrance to the town together with the connecting arch known as Porta Napoli. The church was rebuilt in the nineteenth century following the collapse of the dome. The year 1830 marked the beginning of a transformation of the complex directed since 1842 by Gennaro Gaudiosi, whose grandiose project of rebuilding the structure included the construction of the central staircase and the addition of more rooms. The new complex opened in 1868 and functioned as a hospital until after the Second World War. It currently houses the seat of the Department of Engineering of the University of Campania ‘Luigi Vanvitelli’

Management practices in Italy on adrenal insufficiency in young people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy on steroid treatment
Background: The cornerstone of current pharmacologic management of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is glucocorticoid (GC) therapy initiated at a young age. Chronic high-dose daily GC treatment causes adrenal suppression that can result in potentially life-threatening adrenal insufficiency (AI). Despite the potential severity of this complication, it is not known what guidance pediatric endocrinologists and neurologists in Italy provide regarding the risk of AI.
Methods: Online survey distributed via email to Italian endocrinologists and neurologists
involved in the care of young people with DMD.
Results: A total of 35 physicians responded to the survey (57% endocrinologists, 43%
neurologists). Most respondents (57%) managed between 11 and 50 patients, with
neurologists caring for a greater number of patients than endocrinologists (P=0.013). The most commonly used GC regimen was daily deflazacort (86%), followed by daily prednisone (26%), intermittent deflazacort (14%), and intermittent prednisone (3%). For minor stress (e.g., cold without fever), most respondents (80%) did not recommend any additional treatment, with a significant difference between neurologists and endocrinologists (93% vs. 70%, P=0.027). For moderate stress (e.g., febrile illness, vomiting, diarrhea but able to take oral intake), 31% recommended oral hydrocortisone (HC), 17% suggested an additional dose of deflazacort/prednisone, and 9% recommended parenteral HC. In cases of major stress (e.g., painful long bone fracture, vomiting or diarrhea with inability to take oral intake, general anesthesia, surgery), 77% recommended parenteral HC, yet 14% still did not advise any additional treatment. Although 82% of respondents reported providing education on AI management (from
endocrinology team in 41%, neurology team in 26%, both in 15%), only 43% supplied a prescription and instructions on how to administer intramuscular HC. Furthermore, while 71% provided a written emergency plan for steroid management during illness or stress, only 37% had an alert in the hospital system, and 31% recommended wearing a steroid-dependent alert bracelet/card.
Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first survey addressing AI management practices among physicians caring for individuals with DMD in Italy. Most physicians involved in DMD care manage fewer than 50 patients. There are notable differences in approach for minor, moderate, and major stress, with nearly a quarter of respondents not prescribing parenteral hydrocortisone in major stress situations. Additionally, the majority of patients do not receive practical education or prescriptions for parenteral hydrocortisone. There is a clear need for enhanced education on AI risk in DMD, particularly regarding specific situations common in DMD patients (e.g., fractures, bisphosphonate infusion)
Una facezia di Poggio nell'«Epirota» di Tommaso de Mezzo
Printed in 1483, Tommaso de Mezzo’s «Epirota» belongs to the second time of the
latin humanistic comedy of the Quattrocento, characterized by a strictly imitation of
Plaute (and also of Terence), more strong than in the texts of the first half of the century.
The first section of this paper presents Tommaso de Mezzo’s life and works, and plot,
types and subjects of «Epirota». The second part of the article offers the analysis of some
scenes of the comedy, in which the author clearly employs one of Bracciolini’s «Facetiae»
Management of Neonatal Isolated and Combined Growth Hormone Deficiency: Current Status
Congenital growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is a rare disease caused by disorders affecting the morphogenesis and function of the pituitary gland. It is sometimes found in isolation but is more frequently associated with multiple pituitary hormone deficiency. In some cases, GHD may have a genetic basis. The many clinical signs and symptoms include hypoglycaemia, neonatal cholestasis and micropenis. Diagnosis should be made by laboratory analyses of the growth hormone and other pituitary hormones, rather than by cranial imaging with magnetic resonance imaging. When diagnosis is confirmed, hormone replacement should be initiated. Early GH replacement therapy leads to more positive outcomes, including reduced hypoglycaemia, growth recovery, metabolic asset, and neurodevelopmental improvements
The essay analyzes the work of Tommaso Ottonieri "Le strade che portano al Fùcino" highlighting the infringement of literary genres, the originality of poetic and narrative nuclei, in addition to the plurilingual stratification which is the stylistic and allegorical cipher of the Opera.
