    No full text
The author of the article analyses a short-stories collection by Jesús Moncada from the point of view of their title: Històries de la mà esquerra. Vicent Alonso considers that the title is a key element of the form of publication of contemporary short-stories. And, consequently, it is a key element of their interpretation. The author tries to define the characteristics of a way of story telling (telling things indirectly) which requires a different role from the reader of these kinds of texts

¿Recuerdos borrados?

    No full text
In this article I want to identify how metafiction, documentary and hybridization of genres affect the construction of historical memory. I propose to examine to what extent literary language, with its ability to penetrate and create situations of contamination is best suited to address a number of issues in a less ideological and emotional manner as those posed by traditional historical memory. My thesis is that literature manages to recover or recreate the memories erased, giving voice to repressed memories. I analyze two novels in which there is particular attention to memory, Soldados de Salamina by Javier Cercas and Camí de Sirga by Jesús Moncada

    No full text
The main aim of this article is to analyse the complexity of the subject of memory in the work of Jesus Moncada, as an author from Aragon writing in Catalan and introducing the Spanish Civil War issue in fantastic fiction, namely in Històries de la mà esquerra [Stories of the Left Hand] (1981). Furthermore, the short story that closes the book, “D’uns vells papers de música” [Old Sheet Music], is discussed to illustrate that matter in the context of the conflict between the real and the fantastic, on the one hand, and between history and memory, on the other hand. Thus, in the mentioned narrative fiction collective memory stands as a specter whose condition is noticed by its anachronistic return under grotesque forms, resulting from the horror facing death or the unreal, and from the irony interwoven by the narrator. In doing so Moncada problematizes any attempt to reconstruct historical memory based on literature. Juan de Cardona, "Tratado notable de amor", and the Moncada Connection

The name of the author of "Tratado notable de amor" (1545-47) is known but because the name is shared by several members of the Cardona family, his identity has not been firmly established. This paper offers an alternative to that given by Juan Fernández Jiménez (1982) based on new information. The author is identified as the son of Alonso de Cardona, "Almirante de Aragón", probable author of the nonymous "Qüestión de amor" (1513), a work with which "Tratado notable" shares certain characteristics.

Root-knot and false root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp. and Nacobbus spp., respectively, represent one of the most economically-impacting crop protection concerns at La Plata Green Belt (LPGB), Argentina. The aims of this paper were to determine the frequency and distribution of root-knot and false root-knot nematodes under protected cultivation and an update of the recorded area of LPGB. An exhaustive survey of these nematodes was carried out. A total of 75 samples, corresponding to an equivalent number of prospected areas, were taken. Eleven of the prospected squares (14.6% of the total) were free of galling nematodes; coincidently, these were areas recently incorporated into protected horticulture. The other remaining areas were positive for the presence of galling nematodes. Nacobbus spp. were found in 93.4% of the positive samples, whereas Meloidogyne spp. were found in 12.5%. In three out of 75 samples co-infestation by both Nacobbus and Meloidogyne was registered. Solanaceae and Amaranthaceae were the most frequent hosts for both genera of galling nematodes. Two populations of N. celatus from tomato and pepper, respectively, were identified by the mitochondrial gene CoxI. A first molecular analysis of M. arenaria for the LPGB is reported here.

    No full text
From a manuscript dating around 1550 and a printed essay on royal fests celebrated in Palermo, published in 1703, we know the existence of a labyrinth in the garden of the aristocrat Giovan Tomaso Moncada, built in the seventies or eighties of fifteenth century in the countryside near Palermo. It is the set of a rich banquet offered to the Viceroy Ferdinando de Acuña. According to the author of the manuscript, Gian Giacomo Adria, the reference model was the Cretan labyrinth of the Minotaur and it had a quadrangular shape, with eight circuits, surrounded by a wall decorated with broken keys. Even if we don’t have enough elements to identify the sources used by the unknown author of the Sicilian labyrinth, it testifies of a literary knowledge suitable with the cultural profile of the client himself

Orthodontic extrusion is the crown movement of a tooth by orthodontic force application. This movement, accompanied by supracrestal fiberotomy accomplishes the migration of the tooth without the periodontium. This article reports the case of a residual root of an upper left central incisor in a female patient of 40 years old, to which is proposed as an ideal treatment to restore the tooth, making an orthodontic extrusion accompanied with a supracrestal fiberotomy. It is taking into the considerations of both the periodontal and the prosthetic component, for this procedure. The aim is, to show with this case report, the orthodontic extrusion with supracrestal fiberotomy, as an alternative method for management of root fragments without the possibility of being restored. Achieve to expose the healthy edges, and get appropriate prosthetic results in form, function and esthetics.
