Deposited with permission of the author. © 1986 Dr. Anastasios TamisThis thesis reports a sociolinguistic study, carried out between 1981 and 1984, of the state of the Modern Greek (MG) language in Australia, as spoken by native-speaking first-generation Greek immigrants in Victoria. Particular emphasis is given to the analysis of those characteristics of the linguistic behaviour of these Greek Australians which can be attributed to the contact with English and to other environmental, social and linguistic influence. New historical evidence for Anastasios Emm. Papas

No AbstractThe author’s attention has been drawn to the existence of this historicalevidence in the National Archives of Vienna, by his friend the writer EteoclesGregoriadis together with the numbers of the relevant files. Most of the documents were written in the old German script. Thus the author asked for the help of his friend and former colleague at the University of Thessaloniki and director of the Goethe Institute, Graf Kurt v. Posadowsky, for reading andstudying those documents. Without his help this study would have been impossible. This new evidence concerns the sojourn of Anastasios Papas·—son of Emmanuel Papas, leading figure of the Greek Revolution—in Austria andGermany between the 3rd January and 11th March 1822. There is informationabout his short imprisonment in Trieste, after his arival from Vienna. He then visits various towns in Germany and after negotiations with the Philhellene professor Fr. Thiersch in Munich, he purchases large quantities of ammunition to be despatched to Greece. He finally arrives in Greece early in 1824, and takes part—together with his three brothers who were already fighting—in the struggle for the liberation of the common great fartheland

The Apostle Peter in the New Testament and in the apocryphal christian scriptures: historical and theological approach

Peter's role within the canonical secretariat was a sensitive and important one. So important, that subsequent generations of Christians continued to produce texts that were directly related to Peter, seeking his authority and validity. In our work we will try to see and clarify the misunderstandings that are directly related to the person of Peter. Furthermore, our research will lead to more conclusions not only about Peter himself, but also about the time, the people and the first communities that he met and came into contact with. The element of the reception of Peter's message by the Christian communities will be of particular concern to us and will be analyzed in our work. Our thought is that although Peter is present at major events, we would dare to say that his face is wronged and does not receive the corresponding attention. Because, although he accompanies Jesus in all his public activity, participates in the organization and life of Christian communities, but also in the later life of the church, we do not know much about the apostle. Thus, the purpose of our work is to highlight the face of Peter through the New Testament and the occult literature, so that we too can contribute with our small powers to the dialogue about the face of Peter. Thus, we will see that Peter was undoubtedly one of the most important personalities of the ancient church. He played an active part in the first mission and its organization. Peter is the person from the circle of twelve with the greatest presence in the New Testament. According to the examination of the canonical and occult literature related to Peter, we can say that the apostle was a central and beloved figure within the Christian communities. Everyone knew him and his special personality was what set him apart from everyone else. The face of Petros undoubtedly has a lot to offer in the field of interpretation. This means that one can learn a lot about the state of the communities, the writing environment of the texts and the events of the ancient church by examining the person of Peter. Thus, in this way we can also include the face of Peter, as well as that of Paul, in the light of a new perspective.Ο ρόλος του Πέτρου μέσα στην κανονική γραμματεία ήταν ένας ρόλος ευαίσθητος και σημαντικός.

Regime switching and the shape of the emission-income relationship

    No full text
We explore the idea of regime switching as a new methodological approach in the analysis of the emission-income relationship. We formalize the idea by using a simple static model of profit maximization where above a threshold income level a more stringent environmental policy could induce a decreasing emission-income relationship. At the empirical level we estimate such a regime switching model and we estimate an inverse-V-shaped emission-income relationship for ambient concentrations of SO2 and smoke. We estimate thresholds which can be viewed as turning points, and which occur at reasonable values.

We explore the idea of regime switching as a new methodological approach in the analysis of the emission - income relationship. We formalize the idea by using a simple static model of profit maximization where above a threshold income level a more stringent environmental policy induces a decreasing emission-income relationship. At the empirical level we estimate such a regime switching model and we find an inverse-V-shaped emission - income relationship. .Our findings are in line with the original papers in this literature. Smooth ‘inverted-V-shaped’ & smooth ‘N-shaped’ pollution-income paths

We explore the idea of regime switching as a new methodological approach in the analysis of the emission-income relationship. A static smooth transition regression model is developed with fixed-effects. The basic idea is that when some threshold is passed, then the economy could move smoothly to another regime, with the emission-income relationship being different between the old and the new regime. We motive our methodology by proving that the quadratic or cubic polynomial model used in the literature derives from the smooth transition regression specification. The methodology is applied a panel dataset on US state-level sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions covering 48 states over the period from 1929 to 1994. We find robust smooth N-shaped and smooth inverse-V-shaped pollution-income paths for the sulfur dioxide. For the nitrogen oxide emissions environmental pressure tends to rise with economic growth in the early stages of economic development then slows down but does not decline with further income growth.Environmental Kuznets Curve, smooth transition regression, regime switching, thresholds
