ANALYSIS OF THE REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN AS OBJECTS OF
MISOGYNY IN THE MOVIE "SEHIDUP SEMATI"
The combination of social reality and the reconstruction of reality created by
the film "Sehidup Semati" makes this film a unique tool to understand the real
situation of women as objects of misogyny in society. This research aims to analyze
the representation of women as objects of misogyny in the film "Sehidup Semati".
The research method used is descriptive qualitative with the Roland Barthes
semiotic model analysis technique with the research focus on the denotation
meaning and connotation meaning contained in the film. The results showed that
women as objects of misogyny stemmed from the religious dogma of the pastor
which was twisted into misogynistic and patriarchal. The family culture that exalts
the position of men in the household is misused as a justification to satisfy one's
own ego, which then leads to violence against women. While the film clearly
satirizes patriarchy, it also provides a concrete solution to the problem of
patriarchy. This is characterized by the support of moral support and a clear
perspective in helping women to free themselves from the cycle of violence and
oppression. In addition, the findings of this study suggest that women as objects of
misogyny are presented in order to perpetuate stereotypes against women.
