Self-assembly of gold nanoparticles on sulphide functionalized polydopamine in application to electrocatalytic oxidation of nitric oxide
facile synthetic approach is used to prepare sulphide-functionalized polydopamine (S-PDA) via spontaneous
self-polymerization of dopamine (DA) on glassy carbon (GC) substrate at room temperature. A GC electrode is
immersed in a solution containing DA, carbon disulphide (CS2), triethylamine (TEA) and ethanol which renders
the GC surface sulphide-functionalized. Subsequently, citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are attached
to the S-PDA/GC surface via Au–S linkages. Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron
spectroscopy (XPS), UV–visible spectroscopy, field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), atomic
force microscopy (AFM) and cyclic voltammetric analyses are used to confirm spontaneous attachment of
AuNPs to the S-PDA/GC surface. The electrocatalytic activity of the as-synthesized AuNPs/S-PDA/GC
electrode is studied for the oxidation of nitric oxide (NO) by employing cyclic voltammetric and
chronoamperometric techniques. The AuNPs/S-PDA/GC electrode exhibits excellent electrocatalytic
activity towards NO oxidation (0.489 V) by reducing the oxidation overpotential from 0.293 and 0.176 V
with 2.5 times higher current sensitivity compared to S-PDA/GC (0.782 V) and bare GC electrodes
(0.665 V) respectively. Further, the sensitivity and selectivity of the AuNPs/S-PDA/GC electrode are
examined by using amperometry and the obtained results suggested that the proposed sensor probe
exhibits excellent selectivity for NO in presence of commonly interfering biomolecules such as glucose,
ascorbic acid, dopamine and uric acid along with very good reproducibility and long-term stabilit
Building trust in a postconflict society : an integrative model of cross-group friendship and intergroup emotions
The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship and/or publication of this article: Study 1 was supported by a grant from the Community Relations Unit, Northern Ireland, awarded to Miles Hewstone, Ed Cairns, and Joanne Hughes. We gratefully acknowledge the Russell Sage Foundation for their grant support for studies 2 and 3.Across one longitudinal and two cross-sectional surveys in Northern Ireland, we tested a model of intergroup relations in which out-group attitudes and behavioral tendencies are predicted by cross-group friendship and positive intergroup appraisals, mediated by intergroup emotions and out-group trust. In study 1, out-group friendship at time 1 predicted out-group trust at time 2 (one year later), controlling for prior out-group trust. In study 2, positive and negative intergroup emotions mediated the effects of friendship on positive and negative behavioral tendencies and attitudes. In study 3, a confirmatory factor analysis indicated that trust and emotions are distinct constructs with unique predictive contributions. We then tested a model in which cross-group friendship predicted intergroup emotions and trust through intimate self-disclosure in out-group friendships. Our findings support an integration of an intergroup emotions framework with research highlighting the importance of cross-group friendship in fostering positive intergroup outcomes.Peer reviewe

A Study on Siddha Diagnostic Methodology of Neerkkuri and Neikkuri for “Uthiravaatha Sronitham”
Siddha system of medicine has unique diagnostic methods i.e. En vagai thervu (mainly Naadi, Neerkkuri and Neikkuri), Pancha patchi sasthiram and Manikkadai nool.
The author had collected review of literature, definition, aetiology and classifications from the siddha literatures.
For the clinical study, 40 cases OPD were selected as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The informed consent were obtained from the patients. Case sheet proforma were maintained for 40 cases.
This topic is submitted to the screening committee members and got approved from them as well as from the IEC committee members later.
Among 40 cases, Sex - 95% cases were female.
Socio-economic status - 45% cases have lower socio economic status.
Symptoms – 100% cases have pain in the small joints of toes and fingers and 92.5% cases have swelling in the knee joint, ankle joint, dorsal foot of the body.
Thegi - 37.5% cases have Piththa vaatha thegi.
Nilam - 80% cases were in Marutha nilam.
Piraaya kaalam – In 92.5% of cases, Piththa kaalam is affected.
Uyir thathukkal - In 100% cases Viyaanan, Samaanan is affected.
In 100% cases Saathaga piththam affected.
In 100% cases – Avalampakam and Santhigam were affected.
Udal thathukkal – In 100% of cases Saaram, Cenneer, Oon, Koluppu and Enpu were affected.
En vagai thervu – Naadi- In 55% of cases, Vaatha piththa naadi is affected.
Sparisam - In 92.5% of cases, Thoduvali and 40% of
cases Nirammatram present.
Naa - In 90% of cases, Naa Niram is affected.
Niram - In 50% of cases, Niram is black.

of Neerkkuri, 37.5% cases have Vaatha piththa type of
Neikkuri.
Pancha patchi sasthiram:
Majority of cases were come to hospital first visit on Tuesday (25.5%).
The Patcham is equally distributed in between Poorva patcham (Valarpirai) and Amara patcham (Theipirai) 60% of cases were came to hospital on 2-m pozhuthu.
According to percentage of bootham in the activity of die, fire (30%), is more affected, according to percentage of bootham in the activity of sleep, space (30%), is more affected.
Based on the activity of birds, 27.5% of cases have affected vaatha piththa kuttram in pancha patchi sasthiram.
Manikkadai alavu – In 30% cases have 8¼ Manikkadai alavu.
CONCLUSION:
This study would provide the documentary data of various parameters such as eight fold examinations (mainly Neerkkuri and Neikkuri), Pancha patchi sasthiram and Manikkadai nool of Uthiravaatha sronitham patients. In this study, it is observed that in the disease Uthiravaatha sronitham, derangement of humors Vaatham and Piththam involved predominantly. 55% of cases shows Vaatha piththa naadi.
Majority of cases, neikkuri pattern have Vaatha involvement predominantly (72%). So the drugs which corrects the vitiated vaatham and piththam could be chosen for the
treatment of Uthiravaatha sronitham. It would be helpful for the future reference and cost effective to diagnose the Uthiravaatha sronitham. Early diagnosis of the disease
may reduce the development of complications of the disease. This study has been conducted only as an observational type of study. Further more observational studies and experimental studies with large sample size should be needed to carry out for validating this research in more efficient way in future
