Il familiare e le strategie di coping

    No full text

Energy consumption of rainfed durum wheat cultivation in a Mediterranean area using three different soil management systems

An energy analysis comparing three different soil management systems was carried out in Southern Italy using data collected in a five-year field experiment, with the aim of identifying the most energy efficient system. On average, because of a little more energy is demanded (13.3 GJ ha-1) and a higher grain yield is obtained (2.20 t ha-1) in the Intensive case than the other two practices, the total Energy Input required to produce 1kg durum wheat was higher in the No tillage-based system (11.05 MJ kg-1) than in the Intensive (6.80 MJ kg-1) and the Minimum one (6.78 MJ kg-1). The highest contribution to Energy Input derived from nitrogen fertiliser followed by diesel fuel. In this regard, No-tillage allowed for reduction of diesel energy consumption by about 70% and 60% compared with Intensive tillage and Minimum tillage, respectively. The Minimum tillage practice showed the best energy performance, because it determined the following results on an average base: the highest energy ratio (4.69) and the highest energy profitability (3.69); the lowest energy intensity (5.86 MJ kg-1). Therefore, MT may be considered as the practice exhibiting the best energy performance and representing the viable trade-off between IT and NT

A comprehensive review of environmental and operational issues of constructed wetland systems

    No full text
Constructed wetlands (CWs) are increasingly gaining ground for the treatment of domestic and agricultural wastewaters, coal mine drainage, and stormwater runoff, mainly because of a set of beneficial features, including environmental quality preservation, landscape conservation, and economic convenience. These would not be possible without activities such as monitoring and harvesting that can significantly contribute to both pollutant removal efficiency and sustainability of CWs. This review investigates this field of research by touching those themes and close-related ones, to contribute to enhancing the state of the art and the knowledge on CWs

Community Trust: A Social Indicator Related to Community Engagement

    No full text
A review of the literature has highlighted that some studies have defined an indicator of trust regarding one’s geographical community, but that few studies refer to the community, in relation to the role of its social interactions used to attain and promote personal and collective planning. Therefore, this study introduced community trust as a composite indicator used to measure community opportunities, as perceived by citizens, in addition to discovering their local culture. A third-order construct model was proposed, specifying community trust as a multidimensional construct, which is composed of two different domains: Community Action Orientation and Community Future Opportunities (CFO). Each domain was considered separately, although they are integral parts of community trust. The results showed that the proposed model performs well in measuring community trust. All blocks of variables indicated good internal consistency, and factor analysis results were consistent with the hypothesized dimensions in each block. Furthermore, the social ties indicator, known as sense of community, was measured using the Italian-version of the Sense of Community Scale. Factor analysis was applied to analyze data and to provide an indicator for sense of community. Finally, through a logistic regression, the relationship between both community trust and sense of community with community engagement were analyzed. We found that community trust is significantly associated with community engagement, while sense of community is not. The proposed community trust indicator offers some guidance to urban planners and local governments, when promoting urban development, social empowerment, and community wellbein

Health under the telephone wire. Telephonic interaction between oncological patients and health workers | [Quando la salute è appesa a un filo. L'Interazione telefonica fra paziente oncologico e operatore sanitario]

The psycho-oncological literature highlighted the importance of temporal continuity and professional competence when it comes to the relationship between patients affected by cancer and health workers who attend to them. This research has analyzed, from a cultural and community psychology perspective as well as a psycho-semiotic perspective, some telephonic interactions that have taken place on a telephone counselling service, which is geared to patients undergoing home-based chemotherapeu-tic treatments. To this end we did an ethno-psychological observation (Freda, 2011; Angrosino, 2007) of the hospital department and have carried out 54 telephonic consultations subsequently analysed by means of the dia-textual analysis (Mininni, 2003). The analysis focus on the delegitimation felt by the health workers when it comes to taking charge of the patients; these feelings are linked to the ambivalence showed by the physicians with regard to the delegation of the patients themselves. By setting up a collaboration between the health workers who deal with the patients and the health personnel who set the therapeutic protocol it is possible to build up more professional responsibility as well as efficacy and efficiency for the whole institution while re-defining the quality of the service this provides
