No full textAt the end of his book, 'Delle antichità della città di Roma' (Venezia 1548), the author, Lucio Fauno, appends a postscript in which he addresses his readers (“Alli Lettori”) concerning a then bitter controversy about the correct location of the Roman Forum. In contrast to a widely-held view that located the Forum between the Capitoline Hill and the Arch of Titus, Pirro Ligorio, and his friends, Gabriele Faerno and Benedetto Egio, advocated a position that relocated the Forum between the Capitoline Hill and the Palatine. This contradicted the prevailing consensus, as it was established in the Topographia Antiquae Romae (1534) of Bartolomeo Marliani. Fauno’s arguments refute the Ligorian postion, in defence of his own description of Roman topography provided in his book of the Antichità di Roma. In the course of time Ligorio’s relocation of the Forum proved to be wrong. In the discussion of ‘Lucio Fauno’, it is shown that this name is a pseudonym for the writer and antiquarian, Giovanni Tarcagnota of Gaeta (d. 1566)
Five Easy Pieces dedicated to Ludovico Quaroni
No full textThe first edition of this book was published in Italian in 1989, about two years after the death of Ludovico Quaroni; this edition in English is addressed mainly to non-Italian scholars with an interest in modern architecture in Italy. Given the imperfect parallel between musical and literary composition, therefore, in this book an intimate intellectual atmosphere prevails, which reveals the author’s skill in creating a narrative and also in engaging in a type of critical writing that is rarely undertaken by architect-intellectuals. The five episodes in the book cover almost thirty years, from 1958 to 1987, which were years that remained deeply preserved in the author’s memory. The literary form of the pieces gives all of them a common structure: they are dialogues; usually consisting of brief exchanges of few words, spoken or written, between the author (Lucio Barbera) and Quaroni. In one of them – Charisma – the dialogue takes place between Quaroni and a larger chorus. In another – Elective Misunderstanding – we have a double dialogue at a distance, a trio, if we return to the musical metaphor, between Quaroni, Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso and Barbera. The last piece is a longer conversation by Quaroni on himself; a taking stock and a valediction. On the frontispiece, Barbera gives a clear indication of his intentions: “For students of Architecture who are well-educated and for architects interested in getting to know better a Master of their trade”
Toward a new paradigm in open economy modeling: where do we stand?
No full textThis paper provides a selective, up-to-date survey of the recent, fast-growing literature on new open economy macroeconomics. Lucio Sarno begins with a review of the seminal paper in this literature, describing the baseline model proposed therein. He then covers a number of variants and generalizations of the baseline model involving the allowance for nominal rigidities, pricing to market, alternative preference specifications, and alternative financial markets structures. The author also discusses the recent stochastic extensions of these models, especially focusing on their implications for the link between risk and exchange rates and on new directions for the relevant literature.Econometric models ; Macroeconomics

No full textEl presente trabajo de investigación está orientado a mejorar los niveles de comprensión lectora en el área de Ciencia Tecnología y Ambiente en los estudiantes del cuarto grado "A" del nivel secundario, mediante la aplicación de los mapas conceptuales como una herramienta pedagógica.
El tipo de investigación es explicativa, diseño experimental en su variante pre - experimental de un solo grupo, donde se aplicó un pre test y un post test, utilizando como instrumento el cuestionario. La población y muestra estuvo constituida por 27 estudiantes del cuarto grado "A" del nivel secundario de la I.E. Juan Acevedo Arce de Chilia, provincia de Pataz, Departamento de la Libertad.
El estadístico de prueba de los rangos de signo de Wilconxon; con una probabilidad de Z= -4.552b se obtienen un p-valor de ,000 que es menor a 0.05; por lo que se concluye a un 95% de confianza existe una diferencia significativa en los niveles de comprensión lectora antes y después del uso de los mapas conceptuales en estudiantes de la Institución Educativa "Juan Acevedo Arce" de Chilia-Pataz; de esta manera aceptándose la hipótesis de investigación.Tesi

No full textEl presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo la optimización de la
gestión de adquisiciones que se aplican en la elaboración de obras de construcción
civil, con la finalidad de mitigar costos y tiempos que se emplean. La metodología
empleada fue la utilización de la guía PMBOK, la cual provee de lineamientos a
seguir para una correcta gestión de adquisiciones. La investigación se realiza a
causa de una realidad de gestión de adquisiciones realizada de manera tradicional,
donde no se toma importancia al estudio de los procesos de adquisición, teniendo
como consecuencia que los proyectos se interrumpan generando que las obras
tengas gastos no estimados, demoras en procesos, y otros problemas que pueden
generar conflictos entre entidades y contratistas. La aplicación de la investigación
se realizó para la empresa “CONSTRUCTORA ARCE S.A.C” en el proyecto
“RECUPERACIÓN DEL LOCAL ESCOLAR N.º 80935 QUEMAZÓN – CHICAMA”,
de la cual se desarrolló un pronóstico previo de todo el proyecto en ejecución, para
con el empleo de PMBOK evaluar su gestión de adquisiciones y mitigar los
sobrecostos existentes. La investigación resalta la importancia de la utilización de
la guía en la gestión de adquisiciones ya que eleva los porcentajes de cumplimiento
con los procesos programados, puesto que se asegura que los procesos se realicen
de manera ininterrumpida. La guía PMBOK genera beneficios en tiempo y costo,
reduciéndolos al ejecutarlos de manera más eficiente.The objective of this research work is to optimize the management of acquisitions
that are applied in the development of civil construction works, in order to mitigate
costs and times that are used. The methodology used was the use of the PMBOK
guide, which provides guidelines to follow for proper procurement management. The
research is carried out because of a reality of procurement management carried out
in a traditional way, where the study of the procurement processes is not taken into
account, having as a consequence that the projects are interrupted, generating that
the works have not estimated expenses, delays in processes, and other problems
that can generate conflicts between entities and contractors. The application of the
research was carried out for the company ““CONSTRUCTORA ARCE SAC““ in the
project ““RECOVERY OF SCHOOL PREMISES No. 80935 QUEMAZÓN -
CHICAMA““, from which a previous forecast of the entire project in execution was
developed, for the Using PMBOK to assess your procurement management and
mitigate existing cost overruns. The research highlights the importance of using the
guide in procurement management as it increases the percentages of compliance
with scheduled processes, since it ensures that the processes are carried out
uninterruptedly. The PMBOK guide generates benefits in time and cost, reducing

No full textIl "De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii" di Marziano Capella si apre con un doppio prologo in versi e in prosa. Nella prosa l’autore è interrogato dal figlio sul significato dell’inno che ha appena recitato e che il giovane attribuisce a esercizio di un perdigiorno. Il verbo con cui questa attività viene bollata è, nella tradizione manoscritta, il neologismo greco γυμνολογίζεις che potrebbe essere interpretato sulla base di un altro neologismo, γυμνολογία, termine che compare nelle dispute teologiche sulla natura umana e/o divina del Cristo.Martianus Capella’s "De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii" opens with a double prologue, written in verse and in prose. In the prose section, the author is questioned by his son about the meaning of the hymn he has just recited and which the young man considers to be the creation of an idler. No full textMetastasio wrote a limited number of sonnets, and in various letters expressed deep perplexities about the value and the efficacy of this poetic form. A recent edition of his “Poesie”, edited by Rosa Necchi in 2009, offers the twenty-nine texts approved by the author as well as six more ones discovered from the end of the Eighteenth Century up to recent times. The article adds to this corpus two forgotten sonnets included in epithalamic anthologies printed in Naples in 1717 and in Rome in 1722 respectively, and illustrates their unexpected subsequent re-uses
Stability of numerical methods for delay differential equations
No full textAbstractConsider the following delay differential equation (DDE) y′=ƒ(t,y(t),y(t−τ(t))), t⩾t0,with the initial condition y(t)=Φ for t⩽t0,where ƒ and Φ are such that (0.1), (0.2) has a unique solution y(t). The author gives sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of the equation (0.1) for which he introduces new definitions of numerical stability. The approach is reminiscent of that from the nonlinear, stiff ordinary differential equation (ODE) field. He investigates stability properties of the class of one-point collocation rules. In particular, the backward Euler method turns out to be stable with respect to all the given definitions

No full textThe article illustrates the interest of the little-known essays on operatic activity in Naples published by Vincenzo d'Auria at the end of the nineteenth century. The author had the opportunity to examine archival documents that no longer exist today. His writings, all of which appeared in local journals, preceded Benedetto Croce's monograph on the history of Neapolitan theaters (1891). Despite their fragmentary and anecdotal character, d'Auria's studies deserve to be better known as they offer details not otherwise available
