    Le Politiche Ambientali

    No full text

    No full text
Consumer demand for higher quality foods has beeen increasing especially in high income countries, based on consumers' increased knowledge about links between diet and health; awareness of quality characteristics and access to information about new production and processing technologies. Labelling is a very important tool to pass information about product attributes on to consumers. According to this, a review of the various functions of labelling is presented in this article. Current information levels on food labels are examined relating to food labelling regulations and firms' voluntary labelling decision. A particular focus is given to issues about country origin labelling

Politiche della sicurezza alimentare nell'Unione europea

In recent years consumers show rising interest in safety, nutritional and process chsracteristics of food products. This has led to increased demand for higher quality foods and the need for more information. The market is not always capable of providing consumers with proper information in order to identify the attributes of a specific product and check whether it meets their specific needs. Problems of asymmetric or incomplete information can occur where important product attributes are experience and credence. With respect to these characteristics, given the impossibility for consumers to observe and check these attributes, manufacturers' trend to have moral hazard-based behaviours triggers adverse selection mechanism. Particularly, false labelling and counterfeiting involve food products and this constitutes a real danger to consumers

The article provides some empirical evidence on consumers'ability to interpret the information on the markets in relation to specific attributes of agricultural and food products certified by European quality labels as organic farming, protected designation of origin, protected geographical indication, traditional specialty guaranteed. On the basis of results from studies carried out on consumers, we put forward the hypothesis that consumers have considerable difficulty in finding the link between information received and the specific attribute information refers to and in evaluating the degree of reliability of information itself. These difficulties are linked to a series of factors about which this article proposes some reflections

Young People's Propensity to use Sustainability Labels on Food Products: A Case Study in the South of Italy

    No full text
This study analyses young people’s awareness of and attitudes towards environmental sustainability labels on food products as a basis for suggesting recommendations to promote a more widespread use of such labels in the future. To achieve this aim, a survey was conducted on a sample of 400 university students in Naples (South of Italy). The data were processed in two different stages. First, we performed descriptive analysis to determine: (i) socio-demographic aspects; (ii) students’ propensity to read labels before consuming food products; (iii) the degree of knowledge regarding sustainability labels. A multivariate analysis approach was then implemented. We adopted a segmentation approach, performing factorial and cluster analysis to identify different segments of students based on their attitude to using sustainability labels

A strategic framework for the Constitutional Court

    No full text
The Constitutional Court should change its role and develop a cooperative context between the parties, rather than continue with a Manichean vision between the parties (especially in conflicts between lobbies and government). The current decision-making process of the Court, at least in the Italian experience, has shown an inadequacy: it does not have the necessary tools to sentence. In fact, the requests for the unconstitutionality of government policies, often advanced, through judges, by different lobbies fall into different contexts (juridical-political and economic) and in these contexts the judgments of the Court risk creating uncertainty in the economy. Rather a different role could be to generate a focal point on which the parties should converge

Water Conservation Behavior and Environmental Concerns

Water conservation represents one important pro-environmental behavior for a sustainable environment. This paper investigates the link between water conservation behavior and general environmental concerns using a large dataset as the1998 wave of Multipurpose Household Survey conducted annually by the Italian Central Statistical Office. Univariate probit models show that pollution and resource exhaustion are positively related to individual water conservation behavior while alteration of environmental heritage exhibits a negative relationship with water saving behavior. These findings are robust to the inclusion of environment knowledge and social capital variables. The robustness analysis also indicates that television and radio, participation to environmental initiatives, money for environmental protection and churchgoing are significant determinants of water conservation behavior
