A phenomenological approach to the neurobiological substrates of the relationship between impulsivity and compulsive disorders
No full textL'impulsivité, un trait multidimensionnel, détermine la sévérité d'affections comportant des désordres compulsifs (syndrome de Gilles de la Tourette, maladie de Parkinson, troubles obsessionnels compulsifs), mais la nature de la relation impulsivité / compulsivité reste méconnue. L'intérêt du présent travail est d'identifier les substrats neurobiologiques de la balance impulsivité / compulsivité, dans une approche transnosographique, en s'aidant au plan préclinique, de manipulations causales et au plan clinique, d'une approche corrélationnelle. Ainsi, nous démontrons pour la première fois en dehors du champ de l'addiction, non seulement que l'impulsivité motrice, endophénotype de vulnérabilité à la compulsivité, prédit, sous l'influence de la transmission noradrénergique, la transition vers la compulsivité, mais aussi que (dans le modèle de la maladie de Parkinson) la dénervation de la voie nigrostriée et les traitements substitutifs dopaminergiques amplifient l'état impulsif. D'où l'interaction complexe entre le trait impulsif, les traitements et le processus dégénératif. Enfin, nous démontrons le bénéfice thérapeutique de la stimulation de la portion antérieure du pallidum interne dans les formes sévères de tics et suggérons dans un modèle préclinique d'une grande valeur heuristique, que le trait impulsif prédit l'efficacité de la stimulation du core du noyau accumbens. Nos résultats démontrent l'intérêt de mieux caractériser le trait impulsif des patients présentant des désordres compulsifs (syndrome de Gilles de la Tourette, maladie de Parkinson) et ouvrent ainsi de nouvelles perspectives thérapeutiques, tant pour la prévention de la transition de l'impulsivité à la compulsivité, que dans le traitement de ceux-ci.Impulsivity, a multidimensional trait, determines the severity of compulsive disorders (Tourette's syndrome, Parkinson's disease, obsessive compulsive disorders), but the impulsive / compulsive relation remains unclear. The aim of this work is to identify the neurobiological substrates of impulsive / compulsive balance, using causal manipulations in rats and correlational studies in patients. The results demonstrate - for the first time beside the field of addiction - that, not only high impulsive trait is a transnosological endophenotype of increased vulnerability to develop compulsive disorders, but also that the transition from impulsivity toward compulsivity depends upon the noradrenergic transmission. Furthermore, we also show that, in a Parkinson's disease preclinical model, both the nigrostriatal denervation and dopaminergic treatments increase impulsive state, thereby indicating the contribution of a complex interaction between impulsive trait, medications and neurodegenerative process to the impulsive/compulsive balance. Finally, we show the therapeutic benefit of anterior globus pallidus interna in severe forms of tics and suggest in a preclinical model, with great heuristic value, that impulsive trait predicts the efficacy of nucleus accumbens core stimulation. Together, our results demonstrate the need to address the impulsive/compulsive balance in compulsive disorders and show promise for developing new pathophysiological-based therapeutic strategies that will treat both impulsivity and compulsivity

No full textTechnical or Culture : A Comparative History of the Museums of Ethnology and Decorative Arts of Vienna and Hamburg, 1860-1900
In this paper, the author examines the relation between decorative arts museums and ethnology museums basing herself on the history of the museums of Vienna and Hamburg. Despite obvious differences, these museums have enough points in common to make a comparison pertinent. Her starting point is the place of extra-European collections in decorative arts museums. In the late nineteenth century, many museums extended their collections to include extra-European work, particularly works from Asia. The fact that decorative arts museums and ethnology museums were created at the same time, that they both belonged to new areas of study, and that they often displayed a very similar approach to objects also justifies this process of comparison. The histories of the museums of Vienna and Hamburg, among other examples, enable the author to study in a concrete way the unexpected affinities between two fields and two types of institutions, which today have clearly drifted apart.Anne-Solène Rolland
Technique ou culture : histoire croisée des musées d ’ethnologie et d’arts décoratifs de Vienne et Hambourg, 1860-1900
L’auteur aborde les liens entre musées d’arts décoratifs et musées d’ethnologie, à travers l’histoire des musées de Vienne et Hambourg. Malgré des différences évidentes, l’étude des points communs entre musées d’ethnologie et musées des arts décoratifs peut s’avérer pertinente. La place des collections extra-européennes dans les musées des arts décoratifs est le point de départ de cette comparaison : à la fin du XIXe siècle, nombreux sont ceux qui s’enrichissent de collections extra-européennes, notamment asiatiques. La simultanéité de leurs créations, leur appartenance à des champs théoriques nouveaux, leurs approches parfois très similaires des objets justihent également cette comparaison. L’histoire des musées de Vienne et Hambourg, parmi d’autres cas d’étude, offre ainsi des exemples concrets d’affinités inattendues entre ces deux domaines et leurs institutions qui semblent aujourd’hui très éloignées.Rolland Anne-Solène. Deformation field correction to preserve topology for image registration
No full textIn this paper, the author addresses the issue of designing a theoretically well-motivated
and computationally efficient method ensuring topology preservation on
image-registration-related deformation fields. The model is motivated by a mathematical
characterization of topology preservation for a deformation field mapping two subsets of
Z2, namely, positivity of the four
approximations to the Jacobian determinant of the deformation on a square patch. The first
step of the proposed algorithm thus consists in correcting the gradient vector field of
the deformation at the discrete level in order to fulfill this positivity condition. Once
this step is achieved, it thus remains to reconstruct the deformation field, given its
full set of discrete gradient vectors. The author propose to decompose the reconstruction
problem into independent problems of smaller dimensions, yielding a natural
parallelization of the computations and enabling us to reduce drastically the
computational time (up to 80 in some applications). For each subdomain, a functional
minimization problem under Lagrange interpolation constraints is introduced and its
well-posedness is studied: existence/uniqueness of the solution, characterization of the
solution, convergence of the method when the number of data increases to infinity,
discretization with the Finite Element Method and discussion on the properties of the
matrix involved in the linear system. Numerical simulations based on OpenMP
parallelization and MKL multi-threading demonstrating the ability of the model to handle
large deformations (contrary to classical methods) and the interest of having decomposed
the problem into smaller ones are provided
Development of an innovative process for the up-cycling of concrete waste
No full textThis study investigates the efficiency of electrodynamic fragmentation (EDF) technology for the up-cycling of concrete waste. Tests were performed at a continuous production scale at various operating conditions and showed that high liberation and recovery rates of aggregates were obtained after just one treatment step performed at 1 kWh/t. These results confirmed then the potential of EDF for the selective recovery of the natural aggregates contained in concrete waste
Agglomeration Externalities and Technical Efficiency in Pig Production
No full textThe objective of the paper is to assess the effects of agglomeration on technical efficiency of French pig farms. We use a two-stage method to evaluate the effects of agglomeration on technical efficiency. The first stage consists in calculating pig activity’s efficiency scores with the non-parametric method Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The second stage is a truncated regression of these scores on agglomeration variables. Data are for 899 French pig producers in 2004. Results suggest that these farms were as much affected by positive agglomeration externalities (that are knowledge spillovers due to farms’ density, and also arise from farms’ closeness to downstream market) as any other businesses. Les adaptations cinématographiques des œuvres médiévales (de la lettre à l'image, de l'écrit à l'écran)
No full textCe travail est une unvitation à réflechir sur les transformations engendrées par le glissement de l'écrit à l'écran. Toute adaptation est une réécriture de la matière littéraire. Cette reprise suppose des modifications formelles ( le passage du papier au celluloïd), mais également une transformation des récits. Il s'agit de s'interroger sur ces différentes translations : comment l'écriture littéraire devient-elle écriture cinématographique ? Les films autour desquels s'articule cette reflexion sont des adaptations d'œuvres médiévales : L'Eternel Retour de Jean Delannoy, Lancelot du Lac de Robert Bresson, Monthy Python Holy Grail, Perceval le Gallois d'Eric Rohmer. On assiste certes à une reprise des œuvres, mais également à une reprise de l'époque car Moyen Age et XXème siècle entretiennent des rapports étroits : statut de l'image, de l'auteur. Loin de rompre avec le Moyen Age, ces adaptations inscrivent alors les textes et l'époque dans une continuité historique, dans la modernité.This work is a thought about the changes created by the movement between books and screen. Each adaptation is a rewriting of literature. It concerns the structural transformations and the evolution of the texts. What becomes the literary style ? Film adaptations change the art of writing. The movies i have chosen are adapations of medieval works : L'Eternel Retour from Jean Delannoy, Lancelot du Lac from Robert Bresson, Monthy Python Holy Grail, Perceval Le Gallois from Eric Rohmer. Each director goes back to the texts and to Middle Ages and XXth century are quite similar : same status for the images, for the author.
