Using a multi-method approach, this study asked how and to what extent awe fosters information seeking. This question was examined through a two-pronged approach. First, in a laboratory setting, participants (n = 32) were exposed to a variety of awe elicitors through a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display. Participants’ quantitative and qualitative responses were gathered immediately after exposure in the laboratory as well as 24 hours later through questionnaires. Second, a stratified sample of participants who voluntarily conducted information seeking (n = 8) completed phenomenologically-informed interviews.

No full textSince the original pre-registration documents contained identifying information, we have further masked them and uploaded the anonymized codebook and analytical plan to this component. Therefore, this component contains anonymized pre-registered codebook and analytical documents provided for journal peer review. Editors, reviewers, and other relevant editorial personnel will access this anonymized link during the review process. The anonymized version of the codebook and analytical approach have masked project names, author names/institutions, and other potentially identifying information, such as acknowledgments, specific grant numbers, and ethics approval numbers. Apart from these modifications, all details and content remain identical to the previous version. The original codebook was published on December 7th, 2023, prior to data collection (which took place from December 7th, 2023 to January 3rd, 2024). The original Pre-registration of the Analytical Approach was published on April 8th, 2024, prior to data analysis (which began on April 10th, 2024). After the review process is completed, a link to the original version will be provided to the journal and added to the manuscript
