TEMI E FORME DELLA CONSOLATIO NELLA PRODUZIONE VOLGARE DI BOCCACCIO
This dissertation offers an in-depth analysis of the consolatory function of literature in the works of Giovanni Boccaccio, with particular focus on the Decameron and his vernacular writings. It begins by acknowledging, as already evident in the Genealogiae deorum gentilium, Boccaccio’s belief in the power of storytelling to soothe afflicted souls—a concept that permeates his entire corpus, especially within paratextual elements (such as prologues and epilogues), where the author often outlines the purpose and intended audience of his works in an exegetical tone. Unlike most 20th-century scholarship, which emphasized general protreptic themes or focused solely on the ethical-philosophical aspect of consolatio, this study systematically explores for the first time the rhetoric of the logos paramythikos in Boccaccio’s work—namely, the structures and mechanisms of classical consolatory discourse, creatively reinterpreted by the author. The research identifies a unique rhetorical system, blending elements of consolatio de exilio, consolatio de morte, and an innovative form of consolatio amoris, previously unformalized in Latin literature. In Boccaccio’s oeuvre, romantic suffering becomes a legitimate subject for philosophical and rhetorical reflection on pain.
This development is indirectly inspired by models such as Cicero (especially the Tusculanae Disputationes) and Ovid (Remedia amoris), from whom Boccaccio borrows exempla and rhetorical strategies, often recontextualizing them. The study shows how Boccaccio adapts Stoic and rhetorical tools to a new subject—love—acknowledged not merely as a disruptive perturbatio, but as a true existential pathos. Through a detailed topoi-based analysis, the dissertation reconstructs the recurring features of Boccaccio’s consolatory discourse, including nec primus nec solus, the mutability of fortune, companionship in grief, and the exemplary function of storytelling. These motifs appear both in paratexts (notably the prologues of the Filocolo and Decameron) and within narrative sections, where they form genuine sermones consolatorii. The Decameron is examined in detail, particularly its prologue, interpreted as a dual consolatory discourse: addressed both to a sorrowful auctor consoled by friends in the past, and to an audience of lovesick women, the intended recipients of the emotional relief provided by the tales. The consolatory power of the Decameron lies not only in its blend of utile et dilettevole, but also in its meta-literary function, where storytelling serves as an alternative to philosophical argumentation, easing pain through narrative immersion. The dissertation also considers cases where consolatio fails, such as the Comedia delle Ninfe Fiorentine and Elegia di madonna Fiammetta, in which literature intensifies rather than mitigates emotional distress. These texts enact a palinode of the consolatory paradigm, challenging the very notion of literature’s therapeutic value. In conclusion, the dissertation proposes a reinterpretation of consolation in Boccaccio as an autonomous rhetorical mode, one that transcends traditional genre boundaries. It offers a new lens through which to view the relationship between literature and pain, between exemplum and personal experience, and between classical tradition and humanistic innovation

Enhancing student leaders' emotional intelligence through multi-dimensional executive coaching: a pragmatic case study approach
The first goal of the present study was to examine the use of executive coaching as a
method to enhance a student leader’s emotional intelligence competencies. The second
goal of the present study was to investigate whether a student leader’s emotional
intelligence competencies increased after the leader received coaching. The pragmatic
case study approach (Fishman, 1999) and the multi-dimensional executive coaching
process (Orenstein, 2007) were adapted for use with three participants at a large, eastcoast
university. There was mixed support for the first goal of the present study; the
degree to which the executive coaching methodology could be adapted to potentially
enhance a student leader’s emotional intelligence competencies varied among the three
cases. There was also mixed support for the second goal of the present study. Although
there was some evidence that the student leaders changed in positive ways as a result of the coaching, the evaluation design made it impossible to assess the extent to which emotional intelligence competencies changed. Based on experience with the three cases,
certain factors were identified that appear necessary in order to create success for the type
of executive coaching described in this study for benefiting university groups. These
"critical success factors" include: (1) the participant’s openness and commitment to the
coaching process; (2) a clearly designated supervising manager who is involved and
supportive of the entire coaching process; (3) the use of an empirically based 360-degree
assessment tool; (4) the consultant’s knowledge and training in organizational and
clinical psychology, encompassing individual, group, and systems levels of functioning;
(5) the consultant being self-aware and able to engage in the clinical "use of self" (Alderfer, 1985); and (6) the employment of an empirically based evaluation measure.Psy.DIncludes bibliographical referencesby Veronica B. Zak-Abrante

Synthesis of carbon nanotubes using methane-air premixed flames seeded with ferrocene:
Carbon nanotubes have been extensively studied for two decades. CNTs attracted scientists' attention due to their exceptional mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties. Multiple methods including arc discharge, laser ablation, CVD, and several flame synthesis methods are used to grow CNTs. The most significant problem with all current methods is the high cost and low yield of the generated materials. Furthermore, none of the current mechanisms explain completely the formation mechanism of CNTs.
This study utilizes methane-based premixed flames to grow CNTs in a one-dimensional, stagnation point geometry. Vaporized ferrocene Fe(C5H5)2 is seeded into the flame and acts as a catalyst for nanotube growth. CNTs are collected from the substrate located 1.5 cm away from the burner nozzle and are analyzed using TEM, SEM with EDS, and Raman spectroscopy to ascertain the presence of nanotubes.
Different carbon structures including carbon nanofibers, MWNTs, and SWNTs are generated using this technique. The presence of MWNTs is observed under TEM, while nanofibers are viewed under SEM. Raman spectroscopy is used to identify SWNTs.M.S.Includes bibliographical references (p. 76-80)by Alexander Za
Structure Based Design of N-(3-((1H-Pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-5-yl)ethynyl)benzenesulfonamides as Selective Leucine-Zipper and Sterile-alpha Motif Kinase (ZAK) Inhibitors
A series of N-(3-((1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-5-yl)ethynyl)bentenesulfonamides were designed as the first class of highly selective ZAK inhibitors. The representative compound 3h strongly inhibits the kinase activity of ZAK with an IC50 of 3.3 nM and dose-dependently suppresses the activation of ZAK downstream signals in vitro and in vivo, while it is significantly less potent for the majority of 403 nonmutated kinases evaluated. Compound 3h also exhibits orally therapeutic effects on cardiac hypertrophy in a spontaneous hypertensive rat model.National Natural Science Foundation of China [81425021, 81673285, 31270769]; National Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province [2013A022100038, 2015A030312014, 2015A030306042, 2016A050502041]; National Natural Science Foundation of Guangzhou City [201508030036]; Jinan University; Taiwan Department of Health Clinical Trial and Research Center of Excellence [MOHW106-TDU-B-212-113004]SCI(E)ARTICLE135927-59326

The Danish version of the Juvenile Arthritis Multidimensional Assessment Report (JAMAR)
The Juvenile Arthritis Multidimensional Assessment Report (JAMAR) is a new parent/patient-reported outcome measure that enables a thorough assessment of the disease status in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). We report the results of the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the parent and patient versions of the JAMAR in the Danish language. The reading comprehension of the questionnaire was tested in ten JIA parents and patients. Each participating centre was asked to collect demographic, clinical data and the JAMAR in 100 consecutive JIA patients or all consecutive patients seen in a 6-month period and to administer the JAMAR to 100 healthy children and their parents. The statistical validation phase explored descriptive statistics and the psychometric issues of the JAMAR: the three Likert assumptions, floor/ceiling effects, internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha, interscale correlations, test-retest reliability and construct validity (convergent and discriminant validity). A total of 303 JIA patients (7.9% systemic, 35% oligoarticular, 22.1% RF negative polyarthritis, 35% other categories) and 99 healthy children, were enrolled in three centres. The JAMAR components discriminated well healthy subjects from JIA patients. All JAMAR components revealed good psychometric performances. In conclusion, the Danish version of the JAMAR is a valid tool for the assessment of children with JIA and is suitable for use both in routine clinical practice and clinical research
