Social partenrship as public private cooperation. Thoughts from the Italian experience
Bottom-up initiatives in urban transformation and public goods management, as promoted by recent legislation in Italy, have been indicated by Dr. Eduardo Parisi of the University of Milan as distinctive examples of public-private cooperation that promotes efficiency and inclusion in governance.
The Author discussed how – even under the influence of the international debate – public private partnership is more and more often a cultural and social phenomenon, consistent with the principles of solidarity, participation and inclusion in governance.
The use of nephelometric measurements in crystallization operations
In this work the use of a nephelometric probe for the investigation on crystallization kinetics is reported. The nephelometric signal was proven to be directly proportional to the overall surface of the suspended solid. An experimental investigation on the nucleation of potassium sulphate crystals from aqueous solution was carried out by applying both polythermal and isothermal methods. The nephelometer allowed to properly detect the nucleation point both in polythermal and isothermal runs. The recorded signal during the first period of time after nucleation was related to the growth of the crystal mass by means of a simplified model. The nephelometric signal was proven to well represent the overall crystal surface evolution at the starting of the crystallization operation. Copyright © 2013, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l
Modelling of a batch crystallization of brittle material
A physical model to describe the cooling batch crystallization of brittle materials is proposed.
The developed model takes into account both primary and secondary nucleation and allows the simulation of seeded operations as well as unseeded ones. The crystal growth rate was described using two different approaches: their performance were confronted with experimental results

Semiempirical model of a batch crystallizer
An approach to simulate the operation of batch crystallization of brittle materials by means of a semiempirical model is proposed. The model is derived from an experimental plan specifically designed to reduce the correlation among the values of the unknown parameters to be determined. The experimentation was carried out by using a pilot-scale DT crystallizer, 13.5 L in capacity, with and without seeding. The examined system was the crystallization of potassium sulfate from aqueous solutions. The developed model, accounting for the first nucleation point, crystal attrition, and growth rate dispersion, gave satisfactory results. The work, thus, indicates an overall procedure to provide a prediction model for an existing batch crystallizer
