Handheld-Impedance-Measurement System with seven-decade capability and potentiostatic function

This paper describes design and test of a new impedance-measurement system for nonlinear devices that exhibits a seven-decade range and works down to a frequency of 0.01 Hz. The system is specifically designed for electrochemical measurements, but the proposed architecture can be employed in many other fields where flexible signal generation and analysis are required. The system employs an unconventional signal generator based on two pulsewidth modulation (PWM) oscillators and an autocalibration system that allows uncertainties of less than 3% to be obtained over a range of 1 kΩ to 100 GΩ. A synchronous demodulation processing allows the noise superimposed to the low-amplitude input signals to be made negligibl

Ancient Mythology in the Trilogy Starcrossed of Josephina Angelini

This Bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of Ancient Mythology in the Starcrossed Trilogy of Josephina Angelini. The inspiration by ancient Greek mythology is evident throughout the series, as it's practically a transposition of the Trojan War into 21st century context. The characters are reincarnated mythical heroes of the Trojan War. The thesis contains a section dedicated to ancient Greek myths in general. The main goal of the thesis is to encapsulate all similarities, differences and elements received from the ancient Greek originals. The author accentuates the need for glossaries added into works with ancient Greek themes, since a reader who is not familiar with these might be rather confused by their adaptation in a completely different storyline. To achieve the abovementioned goal, the thesis provides literary-scientific context, definitions of key concepts, analysis of the narrator, composition, time space etc. Chapters containing transcribed interviews with book influencers provide readers' reception of the Starcrossed series on Czech literary scene and abroad. The author has performed analysis of the Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini via comparing the series to, above all, Homer's Iliad. These works are further supplemented by literature on ancient Greek mythology and literary...Bakalářská práce nesoucí název téma Antická mytologie v trilogii Proroctví od Josephine Angelini se zaměřuje na analýzu "young adult" a mytologických prvků v trilogii obsažených.

Assessing diagnosis and managing respiratory and cardiac complications of sarcoglycanopathy

    No full text
Introduction: Sarcoglycanopathies (SG) are caused by a mutation in SGCA, SGCB, SGCG, or SGCD genes and present a wide spectrum of muscle involvement and wasting. The clinical phenotypes due to a mutation in the sarcoglycan genes include severe childhood-onset forms, proximal myopathies, pseudometabolic myopathies, myopathies with respiratory complication, and hyperCKemia syndromes. Dilated cardiomyopathy is more frequent and severe in LGMD2E/R4 and LGMD2F/R6. Areas covered: In this paper, the authors review clinical, epidemiological evidence-based studies for better understanding the clinical signs, natural history and provide an update on current diagnostic and therapeutic options linked to the management of respiratory insufficiency present in 26% of the cases and cardiac complications present in 22% of the cases, as well as physiotherapy/rehabilitation and drug treatment. We also briefly over-view new treatments specific to genetic mutations and clinical trials on gene therapy. The papers covering the diagnosis and clinical respiratory care and cardiac complications of sarcoglycanopathies were reviewed in PubMed since the year 1997 and we chose to analyze those that covered series of patients, animal studies were only annotated when relevant to pathophysiology or advances in treatment. Expert opinion: Accurate molecular diagnosis of sarcoglycanopathy patients is crucial in order to offer precise genetic counseling and clinical care, both to offer effective management and to prevent cardiac insufficiency. It is important both for an early treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy and to prevent severe respiratory complications in specific subgroups of patients

Teoretične podlage in zakonske rešitve so podkrepljene s številnimi primeri, kar nalogi daje pomembno uporabno vrednost. The master’s thesis discusses the issue of double taxation of legal entities’ income based on an analysis of measures aimed at avoiding double taxation at the national and bilateral levels. It presents an analysis of the Slovenian corporate law provisions relevant to preventing the double taxation of residents based on their world income as well as of non-residents whose income source is Slovenia. Special emphasis is placed on related persons, ranging from an analysis of different legal definitions of the term “related persons” to an analysis of the provisions of the law on taxation of related persons. A comparative analysis was conducted on three international agreements on the avoidance of double taxation which Slovenia had concluded with Germany, Italy and Serbia. The agreements are based on the OECD Model Convention which, together with the commentary, represents an important instrument for the avoidance of double taxation. The systems of taxation of legal entities in the selected countries are analysed comparatively, with the emphasis on unilateral criteria for eliminating double taxation. The theoretical premises and the legal solutions are underpinned by a number of examples, thus adding to the applied value of the thesis. Slovenia as a European Union member is bound by the Community acquis, therefore the thesis also analyses some judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU related to double taxation

From the environmental point of view the rapid detection of microplastics in water is of primary importance. Here the first feasibility tests carried out for the implementation of a lidar fluorosensor to detect and recognition of plastics in the marine environment are presented. In particular, the ability of the linear scan system LIF (laser induced fluorescence) developed at the FSN-TECFIS-DIM Laboratory of Frascati to detect different plastics samples, among those that are most commonly found in water analysis, through different thicknesses of water have been carried out. The results have provided interesting results, opening the way to more in-depth studies for the development of specific spectroscopic systems for the detection of microplastics in the marine environment without sampling

Circulating miR-206 as a biomarker for patients affected by severe limb girdle muscle dystrophies

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD) are clinically and genetically heterogeneous conditions, presenting with a wide clinical spectrum, leading to progressive proximal weakness caused by loss of muscle fibers. MiR-206 is a member of myomiRNAs, a group of miRNAs with important function in skeletal muscle. Our aim is to determine the value of miR-206 in detect-ing muscle disease evolution in patients affected by LGMD. We describe clinical features, disease history and progression of eleven patients affected by various types of LGMD: transportinopathy, sarcoglycanopathy and calpainopathy. We analyzed the patients’ mutations and we studied the circulating miR-206 in serum by qRT-PCR; muscle MRI was done with a 1.5 Tesla apparatus. The severe evolution of disease type is associated with the expression levels of miR-206, which was significantly elevated in our LGMD patient cohort in comparison with a control group. In particular, we observed an over-expression of miR-206 that was 50–80 folds elevated in two patients with a severe and early disease course in the transportinopathy and calpainopathy sub-types. The functional impairment was observed clinically and muscle loss and atrophy documented by muscle MRI. This study provides the first evidence that miR-206 is associated with phenotypic expression and it could be used as a prognostic indicator of LGMD disease progression
