In this manuscript, I mainly focus on an introduction of the documents in Yuki Shigeko Collections of Kobe College Library. which was roughly organized in March 2016, while writing activities of the author Yuki Shigeko (1900-1969) has been described from several different view-points. Some documents of the Collections were investigated to show the details and newly discovered facts relative to previous explanations and works described in the chronological records. First, I re-confirmed the personal criticism of her by examining documents on her interview after she received the Akutagawa prize in 1949, and introduced her views on culture and marriage. Subsequently, the involvements of the editor YAGIOKA Eiji was indicated based on the manuscripts, fairy stories, in particular, up to the same time, and I discuss the presence of her persistence as an author by showing traces of elaboration of the titles and names of characters. Having identified the descriptions in diaries and notebooks, which are connected to her individual work, I attempted to make significance of her notes on work ideas that were derived from descriptions on the facts noted like on a memorandum book for each description. Finally, I focused on 2 scenarios of 'Shiken Bekkyo' , which is the original novel for 'On-na Gokoro' (HARA Setsuko as a main actress, February 1959, Toho Production) and another one in library materials, and clarified the relationship of the scripts and the original book, which was accompanied with a discussion from descriptions in a diary, and I traced the processes of the film adaptation of the literature. Overall, with the new documents, in this present paper I was able to recognize new aspects of the author YUKI Shigeko, who had so far been strongly characterized by her many novels published in the mid 1950s, by re-examining chiefly work from the early years of her writing career.departmental bulletin pape

Deposited with permission of the author. © 2000 Dr. Shigeko Nariyama.Nominal arguments, such as the subject and the object are not grammatically required to be overt in Japanese, and are frequently unexpressed, approximately 50% of the time in written narrative texts. Despite this in high frequency of ellipsis, Japanese is not equipped with such familiar devices as the cross-referencing systems and verbal inflections commonly found in pro-drop languages for referent identification. Yet the mechanisms governing argument ellipsis have been little explicated. This thesis elucidates the linguistic mechanisms with which to identify the referents of ellipted arguments. These mechanisms stem from three tiers of linguistic system. Each sentence is structured in such a way as to anchor the subject., (using Sentence devices following the principle of direct alignment), with argument inferring cues on the verbal predicate (using Predicate devices). These subject oriented sentences are cohesively sequenced with the topic as a pivot (using Discourse devices). These subject oriented sentences are cohesively sequenced with the topic as a pivot (using Discourse devices). It is this topicalised subject which is most prone to ellipsis. I develop an algorithm summing up these mechanisms, using naturally occurring texts. I demonstrate how it can detect the existence of ellipsis in sentences and track the referential identity of it. A generalisation for ellipsis resolution and the way in which the algorithm is constituted is as follows. Sentence devices formulate sentences to make the subject most prone to ellipsis, discourse devices enable the interaction of wa (the topic maker) and ga (the nominative marker), which mark the majority of subjects, to provide the default reading for referent identification of ellipsis, and predicate devices furnish additional cues to verify that reading. Since Japanese is an SOV language, it is intuitively tenable from the perspective of language processing that the interplay of wa/ga representing subjects gives initial cues from predicate devices. This multiple layering of mechanisms, therefore, can determine referents for ellipted arguments more accurately

Studies on the Hematopoiesis of Chick Blastoderm Part 1. Observations on the erythropoiesis by a phasecontrast microscope

    No full text
In the observations carried on microstructures of the erythrocyte series at the embryonic stage in the chick blastoderm by a phase-contrast microscope the author obtained such peculiar findings on the various cells in motion that have hitherto been unobservable by usual stainings and supravital staining. First of all, the primitive erythroblasts (Megaloblast, Sabin) have been found to possess giant nucleus with thin nuclear membrane, reticulum consisted of extremely fine fibers, nucleoles situated approximately in the center and of irregular round shape to be the darkest spot in the nucleus with a coarse network-like structure on the surface, and numerous short rod-like mitochondria arranged in parallel with the nuclear membrane. Secondly, the primitive proerythrocyted (erythroblast stage I, Sugiyama) have the nucleus with coarse but thick reticulum and with round or irregularly round small nucleoles showing deep or light colored spots on the surface. Mitochondria are arranged like a band and are variously shaped as J, U, V, or S, and most of them are situated around the nucleus and a portion of them in the outer layer. Finally, primitive erythrocytes (erythroblast stage II, Sugiyama) have the nucleus with thick axle-like reticulum but nucleoles are obliterated, showing no mitochondria

Studies on the Hematopoiesis of Chick Blastoderm Part 2. Observations of erythropoiesis by means of tissue culture

By means of tissue culture of chick blastoderm and taking the microscopic pictures with a 16 mm movie camera, the author studied the behaviors and differentiation of the primitive erythroblasts, the mother cells of erythrocytes in the embryonic stage, and arrived at the following conclusions. The primitive erythroblasts on leaving the blood island at first performs the deformation movent by protruding and retracting actively large, irregular pseudopodia from all sides of the cell body, but with lapse in the culture time the number of protruding and retracting movements decrease and then shortening pseudopodia, finally ceases the movement of cell body completely. At this stage short rod-like mitochondria become slender, and as the cell body become smaller and reticulum grows coarser and nucleoles shrink, it is then transferred to a primitive proerythrocyte. The primitive proerythrocyte actively undergoes mitosis and as mitochondria gradually decrease in number, the cell becomes elliptical, the nucleus grows smaller, the reticulum grows like axle and nucleoles disappear, and it is finally transferred to a primitive erythrocyte

Clinical Abdominal Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease Resembling Macrophage Activation Syndrome Associated with Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Case Report

A 13-year-old girl presented with fever for the past ten days without any other symptoms. Laboratory findings revealed leukopenia, low platelet count, and high lactate dehydrogenase and ferritin levels. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed mild splenomegaly and lymphadenopathy in proximity to the head of the pancreas. The patient's condition suggested macrophage activation syndrome associated with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis. However, her serum interleukin-18 level was 1743 pg/mL; therefore, urgent systemic corticosteroid treatment was deemed unnecessary as macrophage activation syndrome associated with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis was ruled out. The patient was afebrile the following day and showed improved laboratory and ultrasonographic findings without treatment. Clinical Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease was diagnosed based on transient lymphadenopathy, laboratory findings, and a self-limited clinical course. Although this patient met the early diagnostic criteria of macrophage activation syndrome with suspected systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, serum interleukin-18 is useful for ruling it out. Pediatricians should keep in mind that Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease may cause abdominal lymphadenopathy.journal articl
