These questions, which have spanned the entire history of Western philosophical thought, from ancient Greece onwards, found original answers in one of the greatest figures of twentieth-century culture, Leo Strauss. Philosophy as Stranger Wisdom, thanks to a scrupulous study of his entire bibliography, represents the first truly comprehensive and complete intellectual biography of Strauss. Palazzo Altini a Pisa: storia, iconografia e restauro delle pitture murali a graffito
No full textRIASSUNTO Dal 1925 Palazzo Altini è uno degli edifici pisani di grande interesse dal punto di vista storico e artistico. E’ un esempio raro di decorazione a graffito pisana che è stata danneggiata durante la guerra. Dopo la prima guerra mondiale la Soprintendenza ha rifiutato la richiesta del proprietario di ricevere i contributi per il ripristino della facciata. Soltanto il 30 maggio 1950 il Ministero dell’Istruzione informò per lettera che “casa Altini è di rilevante interesse, secondo la legge del 20 giugno 1909, come comunicato al proprietario il giorno 8 novembre 1911”. Nel 1989 la facciata è stata restaurata e l’elaborazione della documentazione storica ed iconografica permette di ricostruire la conoscenza su palazzo Altini, conoscenza sulla quale dopo 15 anni si basano le nuove attività per la sua conservazione. SUMMARY Since 1925 Palazzo Altini is one of the real estate in Pisa of great interest from the historical and artistic point of view. It is an uncommon example of graffito-pisana decoration which has been damaged during the war. After the first world war, the Superintendence refused the request of its owner to receive contributions for the restoration of the façade. Only the 30 of May 1950 the Ministry of Education notifies by letter that “the Altini House is of relevant interest, according to the law of the 20 June 1909, as notified to the owner the 8 of November 1911”. In 1989 the façade has been restored and the elaboration of the historical and iconographical documentation allows to rebuild the knowledge on the Altini building that after 15 years represents the foundation of new preservative activitie

No full textLeo Strauss’ hermeneutics is related to a rational and un-traditional conception of philosophy: the reticence of the philosophical writing is a direct result of two different phenomena in the history of political societies, the persecution and the education. The hermeneutic question is therefore at the centre of the Strauss’ «theological-political problem», i.e. of the relationships between philosophy, politics and religion. These complex relationships between «vita activa» and contemplative life are analyzed from Strauss through the interpretation of the classics, in particular of Maimonides, the author more present – with Plato – in his entire intellectual biography. Maimonides so becomes the model for a rationalism aware of the dialectic tension between philosophy and politics
