Alpheus malleodigitus (Bate, 1888) (Fig. 5 A–B) Betaeus malleodigitus Bate, 1888: 565. Alpheus malleodigitus — De Man, 1902: 866; Alpheus phyrginus Coutiere, 1905a: 886, fig. 25. Alpheus persicus Nobili, 1906: 33. Alpheus malleodigitus — Banner and Banner, 1982: 92. Material examined. PG : 5 males, 6 ovig. females (ZUTC 6677), Abu-Musa I., on dead coral, Coll. R. Naderloo and A. Dehghani, 10 Oct. 2017; 1 male, 1 ovine. female (SMF 51384), Abu-Musa I., on dead coral, Coll. R. Naderloo & A. Dehghani, 10 Oct. 2017; GO: 2 males, 2 ovig. females (ZUTC 6678), Chabahar Bay, Tis, on dead coral, Coll. A. Dehghani, 2 Oct. 2016. Distribution. Indo-West Pacific: from South Africa and Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman to Japan, Australia. Regional records. PG: UAE (Nobili, 1905b & 1906 as Alpheus persicus), Iran (present study); GO: Iran (present study). Habitat. The material from Australia and Singapore are associated to the hard corals Pocillopora and Seriatopora (Banner & Banner, 1982; Anker & De Grave, 2016). Remarks. Nobili (1906) described a new species from the PG, namely A. persicus. However, Banner & Banner (1966) re-examined this material and synonymized it with A. malleodigitus. The species is similar in appearance to A. microstylus but can be recognized using two characters: 1) tooth of the scaphocerite reaching the distal margin of second antennular segment while in A. microstylus the tooth reaches near the end of third segment; 2) dactylus of major chela forms a single to double-headed hammer (see Banner & Banner, 1982). In the PG and GO, A. malleodigitus were found on Acropora sp. branches.Published as part of Dehghani, Amir, Sari, Alireza & Naderloo, Reza, 2019, Annotated checklist of the snapping shrimps of the genus Alpheus Fabricius, 1798 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Alpheidae) from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Iran, pp. 479-504 in Zootaxa 4544 (4) on page 488, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4544.4.2, http://zenodo.org/record/261847

Alpheus cf. packardii Kingsley, 1880 (Figure 7B) Material examined. Petro-UFS—2 OF; size range: 5.05 ≤ CL ≤ 6.22 mm; average: CL = 5.64 ± 0.83 mm; CZUFS CRU- 00026. Stations. Petro-UFS—5. Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, Virgin to South Carolina, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas, Mexico (Quintana Roo and Yucatan), West Indies, Venezuela, and Brazil (Atol das Rocas, Fernando de Noronha, Trindade and Martin Vaz, from Amapá to São Paulo) (Christoffersen 1979, 1998; Rodríguez, 1980; Martínez-Iglesias et al. 1996) as Alpheus normanni (Kingsley) (Santos et al. 2012; Almeida et al. 2012, 2018; Anker et al. 2016). Ecological notes. From intertidal to a depth of 70 m. On coral reefs, sand, mud, broken shells, algae, and sponges. On crevices of coral rubble and Halimeda sp. clumps. Reported in crevices of coral rubble from southern Bahia (Christoffersen 1979; Róman-Contreras & Martínez-Mayén 2010; Almeida et al. 2012; Santos et al. 2012). Remarks. Previously recorded as Alpheus normanni (Kingsley). Later A. packardii was considered a junior synonym of A. normanni (Chace 1937, 1972; Christoffersen 1979). Kim & Abele (1988) removed A. packardii from the synonymy of A. normanni. However, the taxonomy of A. normanni and A. packardii remains unsettled due to the presence of cryptic taxa on both sides of the Americas, and, the true identity of the material from Brazil remains unknown (Williams et al. 2001; Almeida et al. 2012; Soledade & Almeida 2013), requiring a taxonomic revision. Because of that the specie is reported as A. cf. packardii for Brazilian waters. Found in the present study associated with algae banks. Previous records in Sergipe. None.Published as part of Mendonça, Luana M. C., Guimarães, Carmen R. P., Santos, Rafael C., Alves, Douglas F. R., Barros-Alves, Samara P., Silva, Sonja L. Indo-West Pacific: PG, GO, Thailand, Indonesia, Fiji, Samoa, and Australia. Regional records. PG and GO: Iran (present study). Habitat. In crevices of massive dead corals and rocks, also found in rubble, often in lower intertidal to over 5 m deep. Remarks. This species is similar to A. serenei Tiwari, 1964 (Anker & De Grave, 2016). Based on Banner & Banner (1982), the main characteristics separating A. hippothoe from A. serenei are the “absence of both flattened area in front of orbital hoods and setiferous crest on the medial side of the small chela dactylus”. In contrast, both characteristics are more prominent in A. serenei. All specimens from the PG and GO show these key characteristics of A. hippothoe. In addition, this species bears no minute supplementary notch on the dactylus of third pereiopods. While it present in A. serenei (Anker & De Grave, 2016). A molecular analysis and detailed comparison of color patterns may shed light to proper identification of A. hippothoe and A. serenei.Published as part of Dehghani, Amir, Sari, Alireza & Naderloo, Reza, 2019, Annotated checklist of the snapping shrimps of the genus Alpheus Fabricius, 1798 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Alpheidae) from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Iran, pp. 479-504 in Zootaxa 4544 (4) on page 486, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4544.4.2, http://zenodo.org/record/261847

Naderloo, 3 Oct. 2016; GO: 1 male (ZUTC 6718), Chabahar Bay, Tis, associated with gobies, Coll. A. Sari and A. Dehghani, 2 Oct. 2016. Regional records. PG : Kuwait (Jones 1986); Iran (present study); GO: Iran (present study). Distribution. Indo-West Pacific: from Red Sea to Japan and Australia. Habitat. The species is always associated with gobies (Cryptocentrus spp. and Amblyeleotris spp.). Remake. Jones (1986) recorded this species for the first time from the Persian Gulf. Banner & Banner (1981) listed A. djiboutensis De Man, 1909, as a junior synonym of A. djeddensis, without providing any argument. But a year later, Banner & Banner (1982) reported A. djiboutensis De Man, 1909, as a distinct species from A. djeddensis. The specimens collected from the GO match closely the Singapore specimen identified as A. djeddensis by Anker & De Grave (2016: fig. 8).Published as part of Dehghani, Amir, Sari, Alireza & Naderloo, Reza, 2019, Annotated checklist of the snapping shrimps of the genus Alpheus Fabricius, 1798 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Alpheidae) from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Iran, pp. 479-504 in Zootaxa 4544 (4) on pages 483-484, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4544.4.2, http://zenodo.org/record/261847

Found under coral rubble or in crevices of dead coral heads. Remark. This species belongs to the Alpheus paracrinitus Miers, 1881 species complex, but shows a distinct distribution pattern compared to A. paracrinitus. This species is distinguishable from A. paracrinitus by absence of balaeniceps on minor chela. Geographically, A. paracrinitus is an amphi-Atlantic species while A. alpheopsides occurs in the Indo-West Pacific.Published as part of Dehghani, Amir, Sari, Alireza & Naderloo, Reza, 2019, Annotated checklist of the snapping shrimps of the genus Alpheus Fabricius, 1798 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Alpheidae) from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Iran, pp. 479-504 in Zootaxa 4544 (4) on pages 481-482, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4544.4.2, http://zenodo.org/record/261847

General distribution. Indo-West Pacific: South and East Africa to Philippines, Pacific to Hawaii. Habitat. All specimens were collected from crevices of dead coral heads, Acropora sp., mostly from 2–4 m deep. Remarks. This is the only species of the A. macrocheles (Hailstone, 1835) species complex represented in our collections. It is easily recognized by the shape of its major chela. Banner & Banner (1983) provided a detailed description and figures of the specimens collected in Australia. The present specimens agree well, in most characters, with the Australian material examined by Banner & Banner (1982:44). This species is syntopic with A. parvirostris in the Iranian coast.Published as part of Dehghani, Amir, Sari, Alireza & Naderloo, Reza, 2019, Annotated checklist of the snapping shrimps of the genus Alpheus Fabricius, 1798 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Alpheidae) from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Iran, pp. 479-504 in Zootaxa 4544 (4) on page 483, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4544.4.2, http://zenodo.org/record/261847
