No full textEva Blome setzt sich in ihrer umfassenden Dissertation erstmalig aus literaturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive mit den interdiskursiven Transformationen des Themas ‚Rassenmischung‘ im deutschen kolonialen Kontext auseinander. Die Autorin nimmt den Einsatz der ‚Rassenmischung‘ als biopolitische und poetologische Argumentationsfigur in den Fokus, indem sie die deutschsprachige Kolonialliteratur um 1900 und die Kunst und Literatur des europäischen Primitivismus behandelt und sich abschließend mit den Kultur- und Rassentheorien der Weimarer Republik beschäftigt. Zentrale Verdienste des Buches liegen darin, dass eine Forschungsnische gefüllt und weiterführende Forschungsfragen zum Thema ‚rassisch‘ transgressiver Sexualität aufgeworfen werden.For the first time, Eva Blome’s comprehensive dissertation deals with the interdiscoursive transformations of the topic ‘miscegenation’ in the German colonial context from a literary studies perspective. In discussing the German-language colonial literature from around 1900 and the art and literature of European primitivism and in conclusively dealing with theories of culture and race of the Weimar Republic, the author focuses on the usage of ‘miscegenation’ as a biopolitical and poetological figure of reasoning. The book’s most central merits are that it fills a research niche and that it poses additional research questions on the topic of ‘racially’ transgressive sexuality

Der interdisziplinär ausgerichtete und fächerübergreifend aufgestellte Sammelband von Katharina Knüttel und Martin Seeliger stellt den innovativen Versuch dar, ein hochaktuelles Thema der Genderforschung – Intersektionalität – mit einem Klassiker der Kultursoziologie – Kulturindustrie – zu verbinden. Im Anschluss an die theoretische Rahmung durch die ersten drei Beiträge folgen acht weitere Aufsätze, in denen anhand von Fallbeispielen aus Presse, Fernsehen, Kino und Mode konkrete kulturelle Repräsentationen von intersektionalen Differenzkategorien analysiert werden. Diese Publikation sei allen empfohlen, die den Einstieg in das kulturwissenschaftliche Feld der Intersektionalitätsforschung suchen.This book review has been retracted on December 14th, 2012. This anthology by Katharina Knüttel and Martin Seeliger, which has both an interdisciplinary orientation and setup, constitutes the innovative attempt at combining a very current topic of gender studies – intersectionality – with a classic of cultural sociology – culture industry. The theoretical framing presented in the first three articles is followed by another eight articles, which, using examples from press, television, cinema, and fashion, analyze actual cultural representations of intersectional categories of difference. This publication is recommended to everybody in search of access to the cultural studies field of intersectionality research

No full textThe grotesque "Goethe schtirbt" by the Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard represents his guest contribution on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the death of Johann Wolfgang Goethe. It has been originally published in 1982 in the German newspaper Zeit. Bernhard’s fictional compaction dispenses firmly with the traditional necrological enactment of auratic portrayal, and depicts instead an absurd thought experiment around cultural knowledge and memorial culture. At the core of this anti-narrative lies the scenario of a historic visit (and its failure), inasmuch as the greatest wish of the moribund Goethe is to meet personally no other than Wittgenstein, his „philosophical son, so to speak“. This essay seeks to investigate the literary strategies that Thomas Bernhard has developed for assembling anachronistic manipulations and fictions of hospitality. Next, it closely examines the major difference to historical fiction, and finally, it adresses the impact of Bernhard’s anti-obituary on the interpretation of the text.publishe
