Orthotrichia Eaton, sp. nov.
Orthotrichia Eaton: Orthotrichiini Orthotrichia is relatively rich in Australian species. Orthotrichia rentzi sp. nov., was collected from Kuranda, and Orthotrichia andicairnsae sp. nov., was taken from a small clean stream on the eastern slopes of the Bellenden Ker Range, near Babinda, south of Cairns. These species bring to 50 the number of Orthotrichia species in the Australian fauna. A species tentatively identified as O. conferta Wells was also taken with O. andicairnsae sp. nov. and represents a range extension. The northern Queensland locality is far from the type locality in eastern Victoria and the genitalia of the single male specimen vary slightly in several respects. Another specimen of O. conferta from northern New South Wales, in the Australian National Insect Collection, differs from the type and also from the northern Queensland specimen illustrated here (Fig. 9). Some species of Orthotrichia in Australia are widespread, so until further material is available, a conservative approach is taken and specimens from these more disjunct localities are referred to O. conferta.Published as part of Wells, Alice, 2010, Five new species and new records of Hydroptilidae (Trichoptera) from the Wet Tropics of northeastern Queensland, pp. 47-54 in Zootaxa 2641 on page 50, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.19858
