Sheikh Ali Samarqandi was a prominent figure who disseminated knowledge and spiritual guidance wherever needed. While some scholars remained influential only within the confines of their era, others left a lasting legacy through the works they produced. Sheikh Ali Samarqandi was among those whose intellectual and spiritual influence transcended his time, continuing to inspire successive generations. His profound dedication to pursuing knowledge and spirituality—from his birthplace to sacred lands—was pivotal in establishing his enduring presence in the collective memory of communities. After completing his spiritual training, he travelled to Anatolia, undertaking various guiding missions across different regions.Over time, debates emerged concerning the identity of Sheikh Ali Samarqandi, particularly regarding whether he was the same individual as Sheikh Alâeddin Ali as-Samarqandi and the exact location of his burial. Furthermore, confusion surrounding the authorship of his exegetical work Bahru'l-'Ulûm fî Tafs?r al-Qur'?n arose due to cataloguing inaccuracies. This study seeks to clarify that Sheikh Ali Samarqandi and Sheikh Alâeddin Ali as-Samarqandi are indeed the same person, that his burial place is located in the area historically known as Yabanâbâd (modern-day Çamlıdere), and that Bahru'l-'Ulûm fî Tafs?r al-Qur'?n is genuinely his work. In doing so, the study aims to resolve the ongoing ambiguities surrounding his identity and legacy

There are already two copies of "Penitence, or Kaleeleh and Demneh" by this translator. This is a 64-page stapled pamphlet about 10" x 7". There are thirty numbered stories, each with one or two rather crude black-and-white lithographs. The drawing on the front cover brings together several of the characters. The monkey fails to follow the carpenter's example of putting in a new peg before taking the old peg out; his tail gets caught between the pieces of lumber. The story of the camel's self-sacrifice is told as an example of stupidity (7-9). The turtle's question while flying to people shouting and laughing is "Are you jealous?" (11). The booklet's best illustration may be of the two men in the story of iron-eating mice (13). "The Monkey and the Alligator" is well told here. The alligator has a qualm of conscience on the way to his sick wife and admits his mission to the monkey (34-36). The final story of the four friends concludes strangely halfway, when the hunter has caught the turtle. The stories end often by quoting an "old saying," very few of which I recognize as an old saying in English. The typing of this book is uneven, with surprising spaces.Language note: Bilingual: English/Arabicadapted by Ali R. Amir-Moe

Ali Yaşar Sarıbay was searched in this study. He is one of the most important social scientist in contemporary Turkey. A critical literature review accomplished on the first stage. Following this, a rather detailed interview schedule with mostly open-ended (unstructured) questions were prepared. And than, a very successful and productive face to face interview was realised with the author.

There is already a copy of this book in the collection. It is signed by the author. This copy is not signed. As I wrote there, this book represents a curious find. The Kalilah and Dimnah story is treated here, to the author's knowledge for the first time, as a play. The play seems talky; it contains plenty of aphorizing and a few fables. Still, this text includes music for three dances. And there are delightful colored illustrations: four early introduce the main personages, and sixteen with the English text show scenes along the way. Five black-and-white illustrations ornament the Arabic text that runs from the back to the middle. The colored illustrations present human form and clothes, animal faces, and Persian costume of the nineteenth century. Dimnah is pure Iago here, betraying both Lion and " Shatrebeh. " Leopard happens to overhear Kalilah upbraiding Dimnah after the fact; his testimony leads to Dimnah's punishment of imprisonment without food or water. There is already a copy of this book in the collection. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Multi source image reconstruction: Exploitation of EO-1/ALI in Landsat-7/ETM+ SLC-off gap filling

    No full text
The Landsat-7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) is the sensor payload on the Landsat-7 satellite imager (launched on April 15th, 1999) that is a derivative of the Landsat-4 and 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) land imager sensors. Scan Line Corrector (SLC) malfunctioning appeared onboard on May 31, 2003. The SLC-Off problem was caused by failure of the SLC which compensates for the forward motion of the satellite [1]. As ETM+ is still capable of acquiring images with the SLC-Off mode, the need of applying new techniques and using other data sources to reconstruct the missed data is a challenging for scientists and final users of remotely sensed images. One of the predicted future roles of the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) onboard the Earth Observer One (EO-1) is its ability to offer a potential technological direction for Landsat data continuity missions [2]. In this regard more than the purposes of the work as fabricating the gapped area in the ETM+ the attempt to evaluate the ALI imagery ability is another noticeable point in this work. In the literature there are several techniques and algorithms for gap filling. For instance local linear histogram matching [3], ordinary kriging, and standardized ordinary cokriging [4]. Here we used the Regression Based Data Combination (RBDC) in which it is generally supposed that two data sets (i.e. Landsat/ETM+ and EO-1/ALI) in the same spectral ranges (for instance band 3 ETM+ and band 4 ALI in 0.63 - 0.69 μm) will have meaningful and useable statistical characteristics. Using this relationship the gap area in ETM+ can be filled using EO-1/ALI data. Therefore the process is based on the knowledge of statistical structures of the images which is used to reconstruct the gapped areas. This paper presents and compares four regression based techniques. First two ordinary methods with no improvement in the statistical parameters were undertaken as Scene Based (SB) and Cluster Based (CB) followed by two statistically developed algorithms including Buffer Based (BB) and Weighted Buffer Based (WBB) techniques. All techniques are executed and evaluated over a study area in Sulawesi, Indonesia. The results indicate that the WBB and CB approaches have superiority over the SB and BB methods
