The outline deals with its methodology, with an assessment of 19th century 'positions of mentality', and with an analysis of present positions as of the present social, political, and economic situation. The critical discussion places Müller-Armack's analysis in the tradition of the German 'mandarins' and in the context of German 'historical sociology'. 50 years thereafter, an evaluation of the cultural, political, and economic developments cannot but state that the options outlined by Müller-Armack to restructure German society after World War II have only temporarily and partially been effectuated.' The Social Market Economy Concept According to Alfred Müller-Armack
No full textThe article focuses on the social market economy (Soziale Marktwirtschaft) theory developed by German economist Alfred Müller-Armack (1901-1978). The author analyzes Müller-Armack’s ideas in the context of socioeconomic developments in West Germany after World War II. The article outlines Müller-Armack’s diagnosis of society in 20th-century Europe and his criticism of laissez-faire capitalism and collectivism. Müller-Armack pursued ideas of social humanism and what is termed “social irenics,” a notion of working toward peace, moderation and conciliation in order to overcome existing differences in society. His idea of social market economy is seen as a holistic concept pursuing a complete humanistic societal order and a synthesis of seemingly conflicting objectives: economic freedom and social security. Müller-Armack’s social market economy concept called for a return to the market and competition, combined with an active economic policy and a social security system. The concept addressed the question of reconciling economic growth with freedom and social security. Janiszewska’s article highlights the cognitive value of the social market economy concept and its relevance to contemporary discourse on how economic systems should develop.Artykuł ma na celu szersze przedstawienie polskiemu czytelnikowi ekonomicznej koncepcji społecznej gospodarki rynkowej (Soziale Marktwirtschaft) autorstwa niemieckiego ekonomisty Alfreda Müller-Armacka (1901–1978). W obliczu mało rozpowszechnionej znajomości jego dzieł w Polsce, zastosowano metodę badawczą merytorycznej analizy ich treści, rozpatrując je w nawiązaniu do danych z zakresu społeczno-gospodarczej sytuacji w Niemczech Zachodnich po II wojnie światowej. Artykuł przedstawia w logicznym porządku idee autora: diagnozę kryzysu społecznego w XX w., ordo i „społeczny irenizm” oraz krytykę leseferyzmu i kolektywizmu. Następnie dokonuje się przedstawienia programu społecznej gospodarki rynkowej A. Müller-Armacka. Program składał się z postulatów powrotu do rynku i konkurencji, aktywnej polityki gospodarczej państwa oraz stworzenia systemu zabezpieczeń socjalnych. Analiza prowadzi do wniosku, że koncepcja ta odpowiadała na pytanie, jak pogodzić ze sobą wzrost gospodarczy oraz wolność i społeczne zabezpieczenie jednostek ludzkich. Dlatego w podsumowaniu artykułu wskazuje się na wysoki walor poznawczy koncepcji społecznej gospodarki rynkowej i jej aktualność w dobie współczesnej dyskusji o możliwych kierunkach rozwoju obecnego systemu gospodarczego
