Three Gallo-Roman bronze disks with astral inscriptions
Get PDFThis article concerns three archaeologically recovered circular bronze objects found at Gallo-Roman (1st century BC – 4th century AD) sites in France. Through comparisons with other more or less contemporary objects of known function, it is argued that one of these disks definitely, and another likely, belonged to gearwork devices for keeping track of simple chronological cycles, while the third belonged to a clepsydra of a type recognized only recently

This project investigated the different chemical species that impact wine mouthfeel at E&J Gallo. Concepts from industrial winemaking processes, chemical engineering principles, and industry practices were integrated to develop quantitative techniques to measure chemical species that correlate with mouthfeel. No full textPrendendo l’avvio dalla sorprendente presenza tra i profughi austriaci nella Bari del 1944, di tre nomi rilevanti della letteratura austriaca dell’esilio: Franz Theodor Csokor, Alexander Sacher-Masoch e Hermann Hakel, Il presente volume tenta di riportare e approfondire quanto del soggiorno barese sia rimasto intessuto nelle loro opere. L’indagine si è orientata in particolare, su quale immagine della città e della sua gente di allora si potesse ricavare dallo sguardo “altro” di perseguitati dal nazifascismo che erano approdati sani e salvi nella città liberata. In breve, l’obiettivo perseguito, può formularsi come la composizione immaginaria tramite i loro scritti di una “istantanea“ della Bari di quell’anno, prima che la guerra e le successive vicende personali li riconducessero in patria. Una volta rientrati a Vienna, i tre autori avrebbero assunto, tramite l’incarico di rifondare il P.E.N. Club, l’ardua missione di riguadagnare una dignità democratica e antifascista per la letteratura austriaca contemporanea, di cui Bari era stata il crogiuolo progettuale. L’esposizione dei risultati di questa ricerca per buona parte incentrata sull’anno 1944, tenterà di mettere in luce attraverso una sintetica ricostruzione biografica, la dimensione esistenziale, la produzione letteraria e l’attività quotidiana di tre intellettuali austriaci catapultati, dopo varie peripezie, dalla Vienna dell’Anschluß del 1938 nella Bari alleata del 1944, ovvero nel centro nevralgico del primo lembo di Europa libera

No full textThe Author intends to measure the effects of privatisation on Italian enterprises (1992-2002) and to assess their similarities with those found by international research on 29 countries (1961-1995): a limited reduction in staff numbers; increased efficiency in those enterprises controlled by multinationals; a lower ratio between financial debts and equity in those enterprises controlled by foreign shareholders. Through analyses of the financial data of 14 privatised enterprises in Italy, the Author did not find many differences between the Italian and international experience, with two exceptions: in Italy privatisation caused a significant decrease in staff numbers as well as in the ratio between financial debts and equity, irrespective of the shareholder’s nationality. This shows that prior to privatisation Italian enterprises were over-staffed and had excessive debts, more than those studied abroad
