The complex of medical institutions of the 1920s on Zeleni brijeg (Green Hill) in Zagreb was built as a kind of a stronghold of the pioneering programme of new institutional forms of primary health care, as conceived by Andrija Štampar and his associates. The Institute of Epidemiology, which was originally supposed to be built according to Drago Ibler›s project (1922), but it was later rejected. The construction of the Institute began in the autumn of 1924, according to the plans by Vasily Mikhailovich Androsov, one of the Russian architects employed in the Architectural Department of the Ministry of Construction in Belgrade, probably after a closed competition, hastened by the threat that substantial funds allocated by the Ministry of Public Health, the Hygiene Section of the League of Nations, and above all the Rockefeller Foundation, would be lost. An Androsov design also replaced another avant-garde design of Croatian and Yugoslav modernism: due to direct intervention by King Alexander Karađorđević, Androsov’s design for the Palace of the Main Post Office in Belgrade, in the spirit of academic mannerism, was chosen and built instead of Josip Pičman’s design that had taken the first prize in the relevant competition. Hence the title of this article, which draws attention to the creator of a block of buildings of medical institutions, the interesting history of which can now be discussed on the basis of more information

The article discusses the linguistic means of expressing emotions, the semantic and functional features of their conceptualization in the literary discourse of Dostoevsky. Based on the novel «The Poor People» («Bednye ludi») the author reveals the emotives’ connection with the most important text-generative dominants and constants, characterizing the linguistic identity of the writer. On the basis of analyzed specific of semantic structure and functionalstyle painting, the semantic classification of emotive structures in the text of the novel «The poor people» is made up.

20.500.12530/87855Introduction: A considerable proportion of percutaneous nephrolithotomy complications occurs during renal puncture. An option to decrease the complications rate is needle modification to make the procedure less traumatic. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the novel MG needle in a preclinical study.Materials and Methods: We developed an original MG needle based on the Veress needle concept containing an atraumatic (blunt) mandrin connected through a spring to the cannula. The MG needle's properties were compared with those of the conventional Chiba and Trocar needles in two experiments. In the first experiment, we assessed the force required to puncture the model. In the second experiment, we punctured a porcine kidney and analyzed histology report after the puncture. Results: We performed a series of 30 punctures of polypropylene block by each needle. The force required to make a puncture with the Chiba needle (6.53 +/- 0.87 N) was significantly lower compared with the MG needle (7.1 +/- 1.07 N), p = 0.027. However, the MG needle turned out to be superior to the Trocar needle (8.71 +/- 1.08 N), p = 0.001. A total of 15 specimens were obtained after three renal punctures were made with each needle. A microscopy of the specimen after puncture with the Chiba and Trocar needles showed small fragments of epithelium and erythrocytes inside the canal with uneven margins where the needle passed. A microscopy of the specimen after puncture with a novel MG needle showed a canal with even margins. No tissue fragments inside the canal were observed. Conclusion: The force required to puncture with the novel MG needle is comparable with conventional needles. According to preclinical experiments, histology report of porcine kidney indicates that renal puncture with an MG needle is less traumatic. It may reduce the risk of bleeding, and this should be proved during clinical trials

The First Emperor According to N.G. Chernyshevsky, the Father of Russian Socialism

In this article, the author reconstructs the various stages of the formation, in the mid-nineteenth century, of the original criticism of the work of Peter the Great and the effects of his reforms by Nikolaj Gavrilovič Černyševskij, one of the fathers of Russian socialism. For Černyševskij, Peter had not represented that deviation from the course of history of the country that admirers and detractors alike spoke of. Černyševskij recognized in the reforming tsar an exception. Certainly the tsar had introduced some spectacular reforms of customs in the Western sense, which had changed the face of Russia involving a thin layer of the population. However, his impetuous reforms had not solved any of the country's problems. As Chernyshevsky would say in 1861, Peter, as a true Russian (istinno russkim čelovekom), in the wake of a policy of expansion that united him with the other tsars of Muscovy, had only created a strong army, allowing Russia to wage war successfully and to compete on the international scene to the point of becoming part of the concert of European states

Observation of Collider Neutrinos without Final State Muons with the SND at LHC Experiment

We report the observation of neutrino interactions without final state muons at the LHC, with a significance of 6.4σ. A dataset of proton-proton collisions at s=13.6 TeV collected by SND@LHC in 2022 and 2023 is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 68.6 fb-1. Neutrino interactions without a reconstructed muon are selected, resulting in an event sample consisting mainly of neutral-current and electron neutrino charged-current interactions in the detector. After selection cuts, 9 neutrino interaction candidate events are observed with an estimated background of 0.32 events. © 2025 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. 20.500.12530/87855IntroductionTo decrease complication rate, we developed a novel MG needle for kidney puncture consisting of a pointed cannula, an atraumatic mandrin-bulb and a spring mechanism pushing the mandrin-bulb forward.Aim of the studyTo assess efficacy and safety of kidney puncture during percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) using a novel less-traumatic MG needle within a clinical trial.Materials and methodsWe conducted a prospective randomized single-center study. In the experimental group, kidney puncture was performed with a novel MG needle while in the control group, standard Trocar or Chiba puncture needles were used. Primary endpoint: hemoglobin drop.ResultsA total of 67 patients were enrolled. Patients who underwent standard puncture (n = 33) had higher hemoglobin drop in the early postoperative period (p = 0.024). Although there was no statistical difference in overall complication rate between the two groups (p = 0.351), two severe Clavien-Dindo IIIa complications with urinoma occurred in patients from the control group.ConclusionLess-traumatic needle for kidney puncture may reduce hemoglobin drop and prevent the development of severe complications. At the same time, in terms of stone-free rate (SFR), the efficacy of PCNL remains the same regardless of the needle used for renal access

История лошади: интерпретация античной идеи в конном монументе Петру I работы Б.-К. Растрелли

The article describes the evolution of the idea underlying the first equestrian monument in Russia — the statue of Peter the Great on horseback by Bartolomeo Carlo Rastrelli. The author appeals to recent studies in the history of its creation and gives her own view of the well-known sculpture, focusing on the figure of the horse. A marble statue of a horse on a high pedestal found by Sergey Androsov in a private collection in France appeared to be a missing link in the history of Rastrelli’s monument. In Russia this sculpture made by an Italian master Pietro Baratta for a long time was thought to be lost. The statue represents the “Campidoglio horse of Marcus Aurelius from Rome”. It was specially commissioned by Peter I as a pattern for Rastrelli to work on the equestrian monument that was significant for the Emperor because of its conceptual meaning. The author of the article analyses the changes of the horses’ proportions and traits, and the details of horse trappings in every subsequent replica, paying much attention to some aspects that have never been mentioned before. Thus, she traces the consequent transformations in the interpretation of the equestrian statue’s image: from the Roman monument to the monumental sculpture of the Petrine era.
