Re-evaluating trust and privacy concern when purchasing a mobile app: Re-calibrating for the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence
Mobile apps utilize the features of a mobile device to offer an ever-growing range of functionalities. This vast choice of functionalities is usually available for a small fee or for free. These apps access the user’s personal data, utilizing both the sensors on the device and big data from several sources. Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enhancing the ability to utilize more data and gain deeper insight. This increase in the access and utilization of personal information offers benefits but also challenges to trust. Using questionnaire data from Germany, this research explores the role of trust from the consumer’s perspective when purchasing mobile apps with enhanced AI. Models of trust from e-commerce are adapted to this specific context. A model is proposed and explored with quantitative methods. Structural Equation Modeling enables the relatively complex model to be tested and supported. Propensity to trust, institution-based trust, perceived sensitivity of personal information, and trust in the mobile app are found to impact the intention to use the mobile app with enhanced AI
The second extended model of consumer trust in cryptocurrency payments, CRYPTOTRUST 2
Cryptocurrencies’ popularity is growing despite short-term fluctuations. Peer-reviewed research into trust in cryptocurrency payments started in 2014. While the model created then, is based on proven theories from psychology and supported by empirical research, a-lot has changed in the past 10 years. This research finds that the original model is still valid, but it is extended to capture the current situation better. A quantitative methodology is used to validate the updated model proposed. The results from the quantitative survey show that (1) personal innovativeness in technology and (2) finance, influence (3) disposition to trust. Disposition to trust influences six variables from the specific context of the payment. Three variables related to the cryptocurrency itself are (4) stability in the value, (5) transaction fees, and (6) reputation. Institutional trust is influenced by (7) regulation, and (8) payment intermediaries. The last contextual factor is (9) trust in the retailer. The six variables from the context influence (10) trust in the payment which, finally, influences (11) the likelihood of making the cryptocurrency payment
Fu Describing About the Author Himself: A Focus on Ban Gu "You tong fu"
From Later Han dynasty onwards, the number of fu describing about the author himself has increased. There are several possible reasons for this, but the most important reason is probably that there was no other genre through which one could express oneself except for fu in this period. For instance, the fiveword poetry was still in the middle way of establishing its own style at that moment. Moreover, in Former Han, there were few opportunities for authors to talk about themselves in detail in fu, because the main readers were emperors and kings of countries. In Later Han, the readers had become more diverse. That is probably the reason why more fu began to mention about the authors themselves in this period. Ban Gu (32-92), who is a representative scholar of Later Han and also a man of letters, expressed his aim by writing "You tong fu". Its main content is that though one's encounter with a disaster or felicity is not always derived from our behavior, we have to have a strong will and take action to overcome disasters. This idea is supported by Ban Gu's experiences of not attaining his aim. Such experiences are common in Chinese authors. One of the earliest examples is Chu Ci. Also, Chu Ci is the one of the origins of fu. It is surprising that authors expressed things about themselves mostly in fu describing journeys. It may be easier to understand this tendency if we think they substituted the heaven wander in Chu Ci with a ground journey. Chu Ci was a model for authors to express their aim which could not come true, even if the journey on the ground and the wander in heaven are different
Online Iterative Adaptive Dynamic Programming Approach for Solving the Zero-Sum Game for Nonlinear Continuous-Time Systems with Partially Unknown Dynamics
The current study presents an online iterative adaptive dynamic programming approach to resolve the zero-sum game (ZSG) for nonlinear continuous-time (CT) systems containing a partially unknown dynamic. The Hamilton-Jacobian-Issacs (HJI) equation is solved along the state trajectory according to the value function approximation and the policy improvement online. Relaxed dynamic programming is utilized to ensure the algorithm’s convergence. Model and costate networks were established to conduct the method. A note of congratulations to Dr. Frank H. Fu (Fu Haojian) from Springfield College Alum, Jack Huang, Class of 1936, dated January 1, 1983. The card has country lane scene on the front, with a tree with pink leaves, a buttfly, and a tree with its leaves still green. There is the roof of a house just visible over the hill. It also says Congratulations. Inside is short message.Mr. Huang wrote a short personal note congratulating him for his efforts and the recent recognition by then President Ronald Reagan, or the actor as he refers to him, and saying how proud the Chinese are of him. An author of 17 textbooks and more than 100 journal articles, Frank H. Fu, G’73, DPE’75, has worked across the world in China, Canada, and the United States. Throughout his career, he has received many distinguished honors, including the Medal of Honor in 2009 by the SAR Government of Hong Kong.
Fu has held positions at institutions such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Springfield College, where he served as director of the International Center starting in 1978. Five years later, Fu returned to Hong Kong, but has since remained actively involved with Springfield College, participating in talks on the campus and even hosting a gathering of nearly 60 alumni in Hong Kong.
Currently, Fu is the associate vice president of Hong Kong Baptist University, where he also works as the director of the Dr. Stephen Hui Research Centre of Physical Recreation and Wellness. In addition, Fu is president of the Society of Chinese Scholars on Exercise Physiology and Fitness, chairperson of Hong Kong Coach Education Committee, a research fellow of the Research Consortium of SHAPE America, and an international fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology
Practical application of on-line partial discharge monitoring technique on 500kV shunt reactor
Considering the damage mechanism of oil-impregnated paper insulation in power transformers, shunt reactors and other high voltage electrical apparatus caused by partial discharge, a concept of “destructive partial discharge” is introduced in this paper. The intensity of this discharge is regarded as several thousands pico-coulomb (pC) and may cause the insulation a fatal damage. An oil-paper insulation is usually able to withstand this type of partial discharge for a period of time prior to failure. This provides engineers a time window to detect it. This paper describes an on-line partial discharge monitoring system for 500kV shunt reactors. The commission results from 3 single-phase shunt reactors either connected or disconnected to the grid showed that the on-line partial discharge detecting system has a high noise immunising ability. Two years later after the installation, a pre-warning signal was received from one shunt reactor indicating the existence of an intermittent discharge. The acoustic emission system located its position at the low end of the high voltage bushing in the oil. Dissolved gasses analysis (DGA) in the oil suggested the presence of partial discharge, as acetylene (C2H2) was as high as 20ppm. A Mild, Palladium-Catalyzed Method for the Dehydrohalogenation of Alkyl Bromides: Synthetic and Mechanistic Studies
We have exploited a typically undesired elementary step in cross-coupling reactions, β-hydride elimination, to accomplish palladium-catalyzed dehydrohalogenations of alkyl bromides to form terminal olefins. We have applied this method, which proceeds in excellent yield at room temperature in the presence of a variety of functional groups, to a formal total synthesis of (R)-mevalonolactone. BackgroundThe ongoing treatment modalities for breast cancer (BC) primarily rely on the expression status of ER, PR and HER-2 receptors in BC tissues. Our strategy of chemosensitization provides new insights to counter chemoresistance, a major obstacle that limits the benefits of chemotherapy of mammary cancers.MethodsBy utilizing a murine breast cancer model employing NSG mice bearing orthotopic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) xenografts, we have evaluated the ability of phytochemical curcumin in chemosensitizing BC to 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy and the differential modulations of cellular events in response to this strategy, independent of their receptor status.ResultsA significant synergistic antitumor potential was observed in the murine model with a sub-optimal dose treatment of 5-FU plus curcumin, as evaluated by a reduction in the tumor-related parameters. We authenticated the pivotal role of thymidylate synthase (TS) in regulating the 5-FU–curcumin synergism using the TNBC pre-clinical model. Our study also confirmed the pharmacological safety of this chemotherapeutic plus phytoactive combination using acute and chronic toxicity studies in Swiss albino mice. Subsequently, the molecular docking analysis of curcumin binding to TS demonstrated the affinity of curcumin towards the cofactor-binding site of TS, rather than the substrate-binding site, where 5-FU binds. Our concomitant in vivo and in silico evidence substantiates the superior therapeutic index of this combination.ConclusionThis is the first-ever pre-clinical study portraying TS as the critical target of combinatorial therapy for mammary carcinomas and therefore we recommend its clinical validation, especially in TNBC patients, who currently have limited therapeutic options.</p
Investigating the individual trust and school performance in semi-virtual collaboration groups
Purpose: the purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between individual trust of students in computer supported semi-virtual collaboration groups and student’s performance in school. Design/methodology/approach – Longitudinal questionnaires and interviews are conducted during the case study. By analyzing the data from the questionnaires and the grade earned by the students, the sample students are ranked with respect to the trust level and individual performance. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test is used to compare individual trust level and performance in the computer supported semi-virtual collaborative environment.Findings: the distribution of an individual’s trust level is roughly consistent with the distribution of the individual’s performance in the collaboration. Besides, the relationship between a student’s trust level and the student’s performance is positively correlated.Research limitations/implications: this study integrates the issues of trust, school performance, and collaboration in an educational context. Furthermore, the conclusions drawn from this paper extend the literature of multiple disciplines including education, management, and psychology.Practical implications: the conclusions could apply in the fields of education and management since the analysis revealed the relationship between an individual’s trust level and their performance. Originality/value – This study contributes to the field of trust and collaboration research with a link to trust development and performance. The study also provides an insight into how to successfully improve the performance of student semi-virtual collaboration groups.<br/
