Geographic Information System (GIS): applicazioni innovative a sostegno delle destinazioni turistiche

    No full text

Baldassarre Castiglione (1478-1529), one of the 16th-century best known man of letters and author of the Book of the Courtier, held many diplomatic posts: orator of the marquises of Mantua and later of the dukes of Urbino, and finally, nuntius in Spain to Emperor Charles V between 1524 and 1529, the year of his death. During his life and by virtue of his role as ambassador, Castiglione produced an enormous quantity of letters that spanned more than thirty years (1497-1529). This is an extraordinary source, a mine for both public and private information covering nearly the entire personal and professional trajectory of a figure who played a leading role in the fields of politics, culture and art during several decades in the history of Italy and modern Europe. The article aims to reconstruct the complicated story of the project to publish Castiglione’s correspondence during the 1570s and 1580s and the reasons why it failed, which included private interests, moral expectations and State censorship

    Francesco Sansovino

    No full text
As part of a larger project on the history of relations between Christians and Muslims in the modern age, this essay aims to shed light on the figure and work of Francesco Sansovino (Rome 1521- Venice 1583), writer, translator and curator of texts as well as founder of print shop which over a period of roughly twenty years published more than fifty works. Sansovino was author of two texts (Historia universale, 1560-61 and Annali turcheschi 1571) which deal with the history, customs, culture and religion of the Ottoman civilization and which enjoyed a wide circulation. The essay aims to show how within the panorama contemporary publications these works of Sansovino’s were intended, above all, to disseminate knowledge about the Ottoman Turks: an approach that was quite unlike that of ideological confrontation against the infidels following the footsteps of Paolo Giovio’s Commentario de le cose de’ Turchi , a work dedicated to emperor Charles V and published in 1531 and which served as Sansovino’s main source and model

Modelling individual preferences for environmental policy drivers: Empirical evidence of Italian lifestyle changes using a latent class approach

    No full text
Degraded air quality severely affects the health of citizens worldwide. The design of effective policies requires exploring public preferences for environmental and air quality policy instruments. Within the EC-FP7 SEFIRA project, using a choice experiment that stresses the trade-offs between attributes, this study investigates public preferences for environmental policy drivers in Italy. The main objective is to investigate the role played by selected policy drivers in determining policy preferences, complemented by elasticity and willingness to pay estimations. Preference heterogeneity and the role of socio-economic and attitudinal variables are explored with a latent class model over 2400 respondents sampled across Italy. The results allow identifying the different role played by the policy drivers across the classes. It emerged that most of the respondents (43%) are particularly sensitive to the cost components (cost sensitive respondents). The remaining respondents instead show an important sensitivity towards personal engagement in term of changes in the mobility and eating habits (lifestyle-change sensitive respondents). However, while 29% of them perceive these habits’ changes as negatively impacting on the personal utility, the other 28% of respondents translate the potential changes in the habitual behaviour of driving and eating as environmental and health benefits. Based on the modelling results, potential policies are simulated reporting respondents’ reaction to selected scenarios. It shows the crucial role played by reduction of premature deaths due to atmospheric pollution and measure cost. ã 2016 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier Ltd. Software Tool Application for Dynamic Response Analysis of a Microgrid

    No full text
Microgrid (MG) robustness and flexibility are some of the issues to improve for complying with grid connection rules. To this purpose, an ex-ante short-term programming tool and optimizing procedure, that updates set-points in a time step of 15 minutes, should be developed to define the production of programmable power generation plants and forecast the production of non-programmable power plants. During the updating time steps, it should be considered that some dynamic events can suddenly modify operation with respect to established set-points. Dynamic tests need to be conducted for evaluating MG behavior, over a 15-minutes time horizon, in case of wind, solar radiation or load variations. In this paper, the MG dynamic response to unpredictable variations of source availability and load is evaluated in order to ensure the compliance with technical and economical requirements
