Martiri palestinesi nell’Occidente latino.
Though Eusebio of Caesarea’s De martyribus Palestinae has never been translated in latin during the Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, it is the source of some martyrdom accounts known in the latin West. In this paper the author draws a list of latin and greek versions of two of these hagiographies, notably the Passio Theodosiae virginis and the Passio Romani monachi, and clarifies the relationship between them : the two texts show some analogies in their transmission. In particular, the most ancient versions of both texts are included in the codex Vat. lat. 5771, a passionarium written at Bobbio in the IXth century. This manuscript collects many Passiones translated from Greek and has been classified by Delehaye and Siegmund as a ‘gallic’ passionarium. Some internal and external evidences seem to strengthen the hypothesis of the circulation of these two texts in southern Gallia in the first centuries of the Middle Ages
Textual Features and Editorial Challenges Posed by the "Liber glossarum" : Some Remarks on the Quotations from Augustine's "De Genesi ad litteram"
Medieval glossaries and commentaries raise peculiar philological issues, related to their origin, transmission, and textual features, that partly overlap with the ones presented by the Liber glossarum. This paper discusses specific challenges tackled by the author in the attempt to produce a critical edition of a small portion of this vast encyclopedic glossary, namely the entires drawn from Augustine's De Genesi ad litteram. The attention is focused mostly on the emendatio phase
Una testimonianza inedita del "De Trinitate" di Novaziano nella "Passio sanctae Theodosiae virginis"
Two medieval manuscripts (Città del Vaticano, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Vat. lat. 5771 and Firenze, Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, Conv. soppr. G.5.1212) transmit an unpublished draft of a hagiographical text, the Passio sanctae Theodosiae virginis. This version is longer than the others and it is probably the earliest. In this text, a literal quotation from Novatian’s De Trinitate has been noticed: almost the whole chapter 29 is there reproduced. The article summarizes the status quaestionis about the transmission of the De Trinitate: all ancient and medieval manuscripts are
lost and the text is today restored according to the 16th century printed editions. Afterward, it presents the Passio Theodosiae and its longior draft which includes the extract from the De Trinitate. Lastly, some variants apparently potiores retained by this branch of tradition are pointed out and discussed. In the appendix, the entire quotation
is transcribed from the Vatican manuscript and is furnished with an apparatus in which are recorded the variants found in the other manuscript and the ones found in the printed editions. It gives also the lectiones of Gregory of Elvira’s Tractatus Origenis XX, in which the author quotes some passages from Novatian’s De Trinitate, chapter 29. His variants have some convergences with the text of the Passio Theodosiae
Morphological study of the iris musculature in diurnal and nocturnal raptors
In literature it is established that the iris musculature consists of striate muscle fibers in birds while in mammals it consists of smooth muscles. Some authors report the presence of smooth muscle tissue also in the iris of some species of birds. In the present study we report on the iris muscle tissues (type of tissue, direction and mean diameter of muscle fibers or cells) in five species of Accipitriformes (diurnal raptors) and four species of Strigiformes (nocturnal raptors) because they show different way of life depending of their predatory behavior. This morphological study was carried out from raptors died or euthanized at the Wild Life Rescue Centre of Sea and Water birds in Livorno (Italy). From histological examination of iris serial radial sections we find both striated and smooth musculature even if with marked differences among analyzed species, not directly correlated with diurnal or nocturnal lifestyle. Striated fibers are always present, mainly with cross direction, throughout the iris stroma, while the histological differences concern the smooth cells. Indeed, harrier and sparrow hawk (Accipitriformes) and great horned owl and little owl (Strigiformes) show a compact layer of cross smooth muscle cells throughout the iris stroma. In the other species analyzed smooth muscle cells are slightly detectable as scattered or not detectable. Since the cross smooth muscle tissue allows to maintain a myotic state for extended periods of time, our results might be correlated more to the predatory behavior than the taxonomic order
PVP‐co‐DMAEMA as Novel Polymeric Coating Material for Probiotic Supplements Delivery
The paper investigates the use of poly(1-vinylpyrrolidone-co-2-dimethylaminoethylmetacrilate) (PVP-co-DMAEMA) as a novel coating agent in the preparation of alginate-based microcapsule for the supplement delivery of probiotics. Probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum is used to study the viability of the encapsulated bacterium when exposed to conditions simulating the gastrointestinal tract and industrial process. Results demonstrate that the PVP-co-DMAEMA polymer constitutes a pH-responsive coating suitable for probiotic supplement delivery
Perceptions and use of computed tomography in a Hospital Emergency Department: technicians’ perspectives
Objective: This study traces the evolution of perceptions and use of Computed Tomography (CT) by radiology technicians in the emergency department (ED) of a hospital in Italy across a 7-year period.
Background: The sociotechnical context of the CT room of an ED has been neglected by scientific research—
potentially impacting safety.
Method: Two studies were performed, one in 2011 and one in 2018. Six CT technicians were involved in each. Structured interviews were performed to gather information on perceptions related to the evolution of the use of CT according to nine different factors—e.g. the level of complexity, and mental workload. Observations were performed on duration of exams, the flow of people, conversations, and any critical issues.
Results: The CT technology is appreciated, used effectively and with confidence by CT technicians. From 2011-2018, the execution times of the exams have decreased but not the proportion of time dedicated to the patient. Expectations for future improvements are limited by issues concerning the design of both the user interface and the social context of the ED workplace.
Conclusions: The safety and efficiency of the system as a whole are greatly dependent on the competence of the CT
technicians. CT manufacturers rely on this competence to help compensate for the deficiencies created by suboptimal user interfaces and the lack of fit of the technology with the social context of the workplace.
Application: Training programs aimed at improving the management of relationships and communications between
staff could improve performance and efficiency. CT manufacturers should try to better understand the cognitive and
operational context of the workplaces where CT technicians work—and to design better diagnostic technology which accounts for these operational realities
Abitare a pelo (d'acqua). Venezia quadrata 2
The design goals and objectives of any “venitian” project could be
resumed in the title “dopo Novissime”: the space between San
Giobbe and San Secondo understood as a “quadratura”, framing, of
this area on the ground of the entire urban system and its possibles
scenarios, never forgetting its fundamental ambiguity, central and
peripherical at the same time, and its “normality”; to think Venezia as
a normal city and ask which characters could generate, today, a new
process of housing development, how to inhabit the secret gardens
and courtyards between water and land, invention and time.
