Under the Western Sign: Argentina’s Relations with the Middle East during Mauricio Macri’s Government
This chapter aims at analyzing the Alianza Cambiemos government?sForeign Policy toward the Middle East from 2015 to 2019 guided by twomain arguments. First, we assert that it was mediated by its relationshipwith the United States (US) and mainly focused on economic and securityissues. Second, it entailed a process of identity/otherness constitutionbased on keeping a distance from a Southern identity and, instead, participatingin a Western one. In developing these arguments, we will also pay attention to continuitiesand discontinuities between Cambiemos and Kirchnerist governments.Fil: Cuadro, Mariela. Universidad Nacional de San Martín. Maternal–Child Co-occupation Within a Domestic Violence Shelter
Abstract
Date Presented 3/31/2017
Using a phenomenological qualitative design, maternal–child co-occupational experiences within a domestic violence shelter were explored. Three themes emerged: (1) a difficult step, (2) I think they will be fine, and (3) maternal–child co-occupation.

A DNA vaccine encoding ubiquitinated Rift Valley fever virus nucleoprotein provides consistent immunity and protects IFNAR−/− mice upon lethal virus challenge
Current vaccine candidates against Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) incorporate the viral structural glycoproteins as antigens, since triggering antibody responses against them usually correlates with protection. Here, we have focused solely on the nucleoprotein of RVFV as a potential target for vaccine development. Previous studies in mouse models have already demonstrated that RVFV nucleoprotein can elicit partial protection when administered by means of a DNA vaccine or in recombinant, soluble, protein form. To determine whether this partially protective immune response could be augmented to a level comparable to DNA constructs encoding for RVFV glycoproteins, several targeting sequences were cloned adjacent to the RVFV nucleoprotein (N) gene. Immunization with a plasmid construct encoding for a ubiquitinated form of the viral nucleoprotein (pCMV-Ub-N) significantly increased the survival of IFNAR-/- mice following viral challenge to levels comparable with a recombinant DNA-vaccine encoding both RVFV glycoproteins. Mice immunized with pCMV-Ub-N also displayed higher levels of non-neutralizing anti-N antibodies and antigen-specific T-cell responses. This suggests a role for other cell mediated responses in protection against RVFV. These findings show the potential of RVFV N as a candidate antigen for vaccination, and present a new strategy in vaccine design against certain bunyaviruses, where glycoprotein variation may impede effective broad-based vaccination strategies. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd
Priming with DNA plasmids encoding the nucleocapsid protein and glycoprotein precursors from Rift Valley fever virus accelerates the immune responses induced by an attenuated vaccine in sheep
In this work we tested the ability of plasmid DNA constructs encoding structural Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) antigens to induce specific immune responses in sheep. The sole immunization of DNA constructs encoding the glycoprotein precursor NSm/G2/G1 did not suffice to induce a detectable antibody response. In contrast, immunization of sheep with a plasmid vector encoding the viral nucleocapsid protein N elicited a potent and long lasting induction of antibodies but with low neutralizing titers. After DNA immunization, no antigen-specific proliferating cells were detected in sheep PBLs. Boosting with the attenuated vaccine strain MP12 was able to increase the levels of proliferating memory cell pools and induction of IFN-γ in response to purified virus or recombinant proteins, particularly in sheep vaccinated with a combination of both plasmid constructs. These results open the possibility to exploit this strategy to improve the induction of immune responses against RVFV in sheep. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved
The fixed-income market in Uruguay
Working paper version of article published as: de Brun Mascheroni, Julio Ernesto and Gandelman, Nestor and Kamil, Herman and Porzecanski, Arturo C., The Fixed-Income Market in Uruguay (August 2006). Available at SSRN: https://ssrn.com/abstract=929166 or http://dx.doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.929166Uruguay's capital markets remain undeveloped despite the country's financial liberalization dating back to the 1970s, which was reinforced by passage of several additional laws in 1990s whose aim was to promote the local financial markets. The government is able to raise funds domestically in what is a liquid bond market, but private firms continue to fund themselves mostly out of retained earnings or else via bank loans and suppliers' credit. Moreover, when compared to others in Latin America, Uruguayan firms feature the highest ratios of liability dollarization, and corporate debt structures with the shortest maturities - currency and maturity mismatches that render them (and by extension, their creditors) extremely fragile. A deepening of the domestic capital market would probably alleviate this vulnerability of the Uruguayan economy. The financial fragility of Uruguayan firms amplified by corporate governance issues are the main impediments for the development of the capital markets. Given the current firm practices and the absence of sizeable institutional investors besides the Pension funds, the fixed income market will most likely remain a source of funding for very few firms
Using RVFV as a Vector Platform for the Expression of Ruminant Disease Antigens
209–225 ppLive attenuated viruses remain as vaccine agents with unparalleled performance in terms of duration, magnitude, and breadth of induced immune responses. As the yellow fever-attenuated vaccine strain Y17D, attenuated Rift Valley fever virus shares features suitable to be used as a viral vector for heterologous antigen expression and bivalent vaccine development. Current reverse genetics technology showed the successful rescue of RVFV carrying foreign antigens with little immunogenicity loss in experimental animal models. We show here the basic experimental protocol to achieve the expression of candidate vaccine antigens from other important diseases of ruminants using RVFV as a vector platform as well as preliminary steps for the characterization of immunogenicity in vivo. This work was funded by grants AGL2017-83226R and S2018/BAA-4370 from Ministerio de Ciencia and Comunidad de Madrid respectively.Peer reviewe
From Vilnius to Dallas. An enigma of a painting by Elisabeth-Louise Vigge-Le Brun
Reikšminiai žodžiai: Dailininkai; Idalija Giunterytė; Portretistai; Paveikslai; PortretaiThe object of the article is a painting Portrait of Michel dated 1802 and stored in Dallas Museum of Art. However, a copy of this art work was recently found in Vrublevskiai Library in Vilnius and the author of the copy is Countess Idalia Güntherow Mostowska. This finding triggered the present research
This essay discusses the participation of Charles Le Brun in the decoration of the Ambassadors’ Staircase in Versailles. A close reading of the accounts of the Bâtiments du Roi shows that Le Brun, the First Painter to the King, was asked to elaborate the decoration of the staircase later than supposed. Furthermore, painted staircases did not exist in European royal palaces. Although the architecture was most likely created without his involvement, a few sources, especially certain articles published in the Mercure galant during the 1680s, name Le Brun as the author of the entire staircase, including the architecture. While he may have been asked to elaborate the decoration because of the narrowness of the space and the choice to represent the king’s history, Le Brun seized the opportunity to prove his ability to unite the arts of architecture, sculpture and painting. The fact that the access to the staircase was restricted outside the ceremonies probably contributed to strengthening the artist’s desire to control the reception of this work
