L'Italie, de la surnatalité aux "berceaux vides" : réalité, représentatios et politiques démographiques (1945-2005)
"Italians, produce more children" was one of the slogans of fascist system. If it disappeared with the latter and for decades, it is for a while now back in fashion. Anna Treves studies population dynamics, interpretations and images not only of demographic facts but also of political choices and works by demographers. Covering sixty years of Republican Italy history, the author analyzes effacing and subsequent re-emergence of the idea that the state should overcome the birth rate. Anna Treves underline particularly the gaps between discourses and demographic facts, and the weight of the memory of fascism. Without an overview of the long history, the today renewed interest on birth politics on both political left and right cannot be grasp. A demographic policy based on long-standing fears of decreasing birth rate must in addition be considered alongside the question of immigration
Renato Treves: from Italy and from Spain
The author makes a brief personal and intellectual sketch of Renato Treves. A stay for widening studies in Germany, together with Norberto Bobbio and Ludovico Geymonat, will explain Kelsen’s influence in Treves’ theory of law, not compatible with Max Weber’s influence in his approach to legal sociology. In the second part of the article, the relationships of Renato Treves with Spain and LatinAmerica are analyzed from the increase of fascism in Italy that came out into his exile
Optical Spectroscopic Survey of a Sample of Unidentified Fermi Objects
We present optical spectroscopy secured at the 10 m Gran Telescopio Canarias of the counterparts of 20 extragalactic Î3-ray sources detected by the Fermi satellite. The observations allow us to investigate the nature of these sources and to determine their redshift. We find that all optical counterparts have a spectrum that is consistent with a BL Lac object nature. We are able to determine the redshift for 11 objects and set spectroscopic redshift limits for five targets. The optical spectrum is found featureless for only four sources. In the latter cases, we can set lower limits on the redshift based on the assumption that they are hosted by a typical massive elliptical galaxy whose spectrum is diluted by the nonthermal continuum. The observations allow us to unveil the nature of these gamma-ray sources and provide a sanity check of a tool to discover the counterparts of Î3-ray emitters/blazars based on their multiwavelength emission
Optical spectroscopic survey of a sample of unidentified fermi objects: II
We report on optical spectroscopy obtained at the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias of 28 Fermi γ-ray sources that completes the study of a sample of 60 targets of unidentified objects for which the detection of an X-ray and/or radio source inside the 3FGL error box is available. The observations aim to characterize the nature and measure the redshift of these sources. For all optical counterparts, the observations allow us to establish their active galactic nucleus nature. In particular, we found 24 BL Lac objects, one quasar, one narrow line Seyfert 1, and two objects showing spectral features typical of Seyfert 2 galaxies. For most of these, we determine a spectroscopic redshift, while for five we can set lower limits based on the lack of stellar features from the host galaxy. The global properties of the full sample are briefly discussed
Treves' field transmesenteric hernia causing acute small bowel obstruction in a 9-year-old girl
AbstractIntestinal obstruction usually occurs as a result of postoperative adhesion; only rarely have there been reports of Treves' field transmesenteric hernia as a cause of intestinal obstruction in patients without preceding abdominal surgery. A 9-year-old girl presented with recurrent episodes of abdominal pain and vomiting. A plain radiograph showed mechanical bowel obstruction, and abdominal CT failed to show a definitive etiology of the obstruction. Laparotomy revealed Treves' field transmesenteric herniation without bowel strangulation. Reduction and closure of the defect cured the patient. Recurrent obstructive symptoms and spontaneous resolution can be a presentation of Treves' field transmesenteric hernia in patients without predisposing factors of intraabdominal adhesion. Diagnosis could be aided by radiological examination, but prompt initiation of surgical exploration on the basis of clinical presentation is mandatory in suspected cases to avoid significant bowel injury
