This research explores symbolism, commencing with the concept of symbolicdirection and subsequently analyzing various symbolic elements within thenovel. It begins by investigating symbolism in the title, cover, and colors, progressively examining symbolic aspects related to events, characters, andsettings, ultimately considering three dimensions. The study unearths theprofound layers of the text, leading to a conclusion that summarizes keyfindings. To achieve its objectives, the research underscores the presence ofsymbolism in contemporary Palestinian literature, noting its implication inexploring the depth of this literary trend. In addressing the central question ofhow symbolism is embodied in the study sample and contributes to the author'sprofound objectives, numerous prose works have emerged on the Palestinianscene, gaining popularity for their artistic maturity. This phenomenon isexemplified in the novel "I Wish I were Blind" by the novelist Walid Al-Sharafa. The research's significance lies in its unique approach to studying thisspecific sample, which has not been previously examined from a symbolicperspective

Mechanistic and stereochemical studies on the biosynthesis of neomycin. This thesis is concerned with the elucidation of the mechanism and stereochemistry of the formation of various subunits of neomycin B and C. Particular emphasis is laid on neosamine C and neosamine B subunits. For this purpose, D-glucose and D-glucosamine specifically labelled with 3H and 1sC were administered to 48 h old cultures of S. fradiae (ATCC 10745), which were allowed to grow for a further 12 h period. After harvesting, the antibiotic was isolated, either as a mixture of neomycin B plus C or the two compounds, neomycin B and C, were separated using ion-exchange chromatography. The isolated antibiotics were degraded chemically to furnish rings I, II and IV as neosaminol C, 2-deoxystreptamine and neosaminol B. Results from experiments involving the incorporation of D-[3H,10C]glucose or glucosamine into neomycin subunits showed that these precursors were incorporated intact and one of the tritium atoms present at C-6 of the parent precursor was eliminated during the formation of neosamine B and C_ On the other hand, 2-deoxystreptamine retained both the tritium atoms originally present at the precursors. It was concluded that the loss of one of thetritium atoms from C-6 of the precursors occurred during the formation of the aminomethyl group of neosamine B and C. From this latter observation, a mechanism for the formation of neosamine rings of the antibiotic was proposed. This mechanism assumed that the aminomethyl group of the neosamine is formed through the sequence -CH20H--r CH=O --,CH2-NH2 in which the C-6 hydroxyl group is first oxidised to an aldehyde and the latter then transaminated to furnish the product. The stereochemistry of the transamination processes in the formation of neosamine B and C was elucidated, using serine hydroxymethyltransferase, purified from the liver of rabbit. This enzyme catalyses the exchange of the Pro-S hydrogen atom of glycine with the protons ofthe medium. The incubation of serine hydroxymethyltransferase with [3H,I4CJ-glycine obtained from neosamine B or C resulted in a completeloss of tritium from Ca of glycine. These results suggest that the net transformation from D-glucose or D-glucosamine to neosamines proceeds stereospecifically with inversion of configuration at the C-6. Although the mechanism through which the C-5 of neosamine C is epimerized, producing the L-idose configuration at this centre could not be studied due to the supply of wrongly labelled samples of D- [5-'H] -glucose bydmersham. Two mechanisms for the epimerization are considered in this thesis.</p

This study comes under the title: “The Poetry of Anton Al-Shomali, Abu Al-Walid (1914/1979): An Objective and Artistic Study.” The importance of this study lies in the novelty of the topic, as the poetry of the poet Anton Al-Shomali has not been studied in an extensive objective and artistic study before. The researcher preferred to study this subject for many reasons, including: the diversity of poetic purposes that the poet used, and many of his poems express the social life in Palestine, and it can be said that he is a poet of occasions. Added to this is the serious desire to present a comprehensive and detailed objective and artistic study of his poetry. The aim of this thesis is to study Anton Al-Shomali's Diwan from an objective perspective that shows the elements of the life he lived that the poet lived through the purposes in which he said it, then studying it as an artistic study that highlights the artistic features that characterized his poetry. The importance of studying this subject emerges from several aspects, the most important of which is that it deals with a subject that has not been studied before - as far as I know -, so I wanted to have a share in its study and clarification. The study adopted the descriptive, analytical, aesthetic, and historical approach, each in its place. The most important findings of the study are: presenting a new study of an obscure Palestinian poet who was unfairly published in his poetry and poetry, and sheds light on him as a poet who deserves to be mentioned alongside the great poets of his time, who resisted the British and Jewish occupations, in addition to various poetic topics, and the language of his poetry came at times luxurious Sharp mixed with sincere emotion, and sometimes gentle and easy also characterized by sincerity of feelings. This study recommended heading towards this type of studies, to contribute to the identification of obscure poets, and the enjoyment of discovering their poetry and diving into its depths

Qusayr ‘Amra, ca 740 CE. Amir al-Walid reclining and dressed in accordance with Iranian fashion

Qusayr ‘Amra is an Umayyad site (ca. 85 km east of Amman), famous for its small bathhouse, commissioned by the amir al-Walid ibn Yazid, the future caliph al-Walid II (743-744). The bathhouse consists of a relatively large entrance room – a sort of audience hall – followed by thermal rooms; the walls and the ceilings were completely covered by paintings. In the audience hall, on the south wall of the western aisle, al-Walid is seated like an Iranian sovereign ‘in Majesty’, constituting an important pendant to al-Walid sitting on a high Western throne, like a Pantocrator, on the lunette of the central nave (on axis with the door). While in the latter portrait he is flanked by two (female?) figures holding fans, in the first one to the right of al-Walid is the very important figure of a scribe facing the man who, standing on the left, holds a fan or fly-whisk. Most likely the scribe positioned behind al-Walīd assumes the function of a chronicler, as well as dibīrs at the Sasanian court, responsible for recording daily events. Both these pictures lead us to some considerations about al-Walid’s sponsorship and his search for both dynastic and personal legitimacy as the future leader of a new society, meant to replace the Sasanian and Byzantine empires but tracing its origin back to a universal past, according to Sasanian traditions
